I was hesitant to come here after reading reviews, but after getting their food twice in three days (take-out and eat-in) I highly recommend Tasty Pasta & Grill. The atmosphere inside is nonexistent and the customer service can be a little gruff, but the proprietor is actually very nice and the food was great. We had cheesesteaks and gyros. All were delicious, reasonable, and huge portions. Not sure if calling ahead helps with the speed, but be patient and you will be rewarded. They do mostly takeout so that explains the lackluster interior.

TLDR: Very good food. Would recommend. On the expensive side for portion sizes. Initially I was worried about the food with no reviews and a very large diverse menu. We decided to get the tasty burger, spicy burger, and Cajun fries. The food arrived relatively quickly and was freshly cooked and delicious. Both burgers tasted very good, from the patty to the toasted bun. One caveat being the spicy burger was indeed very spicy. They definitely included the all seeds from the jalapeños. Only complaint being quite expensive for what you get. No sides and not the biggest burgers. I can't speak on any of the other food options, but if you're looking for a tasty burger the name doesn't lie.

The covered patio is fantastic--it sits perfectly between buildings, creating a light, refreshing breeze that makes outdoor dining incredibly comfortable. There's also an ample amount of seating, so you never feel cramped. The service is just as impressive as the atmosphere. Our first server, Cassidy, was so amazing that we specifically requested her on our second visit. As for the food, you really can't go wrong. My husband, mother-in-law, and I tried the Philly cheesesteaks and tortellini on day one, and followed it up with the baked ziti, manicotti, and broccoli Alfredo on visit number two. Our pasta entrée's came with a fresh tossed or Caesar salad, and they start you off with warm, soft bread that has the perfect crust. The portions are incredibly generous (expect leftovers!), making the pricing very reasonable. For my husband and me, our bill was only around $45 including soft drinks. We love this spot for lunch and can't wait to come back for dinner and drinks!

Not overly busy on a Sunday evening, so service was attentive. Prices were reasonable. Reservations are available but were not needed on the night of our visit. Recommended. The restaurant is in a strip mall area near VT campus, with an outdoor/parking lot patio and two wings of seating on either side of the entrance. The graduation menu was a limited, but good selection of fixed price entrees, apps, salads and desserts. They also had cocktails and a nice selection of wine. The restaurant also doubles as a wine shop. A couple of us had beef cannelloni and one had a sausage and pasta dish, along with a calamari starter and Caesar salads. Calamari was hot fresh and very tender, with a good dipping sauce. Salads were crisp and tangy, with the addition of delicious bread. The baked Cannelloni was superb with a ton of flavor and served piping hot. Tasted like some real love went into it; same with the pasta/sausage dish. Large portions and prices were reasonable were quite reasonable. Finished with some light and airy chocolate mousse. Overall, outstanding service and food, especially when considering the limited options for finer dining in Blacksburg. Only drawback IMO is the quality of the food and service is miles above the ambiance and decor. Could still be rustic, but with some interior color and server dress coordination, would make for a classier dining experience.

The Cellar is one of those restaurants where you might wonder, "Do they have ...?" And the answer…read morewill probably be, "Yes, they do have that on the menu." They have gyros, meatball subs, pizza, burgers, crab cakes, kabobs, chicken parmesan and lots more. I get a little squinky when I see a multiple-page menu with lots of random foods on it. But I visited with a group, and so I was locked into this place, whether I liked it or not. A quick internet and Yelp search told me that the things to get at The Cellar are the Greek gyro and the pizzas. I didn't want a whole pie just for myself, so I ordered the gyro. The Greek gyro was really good! It is lamb and beef in a pita, topped with tzatziki, lettuce, onion and tomato. All of the veggies were super fresh, and the pita was warm and pillowy. It's served with chips and a pickle. They actually have quite a few Greek or Mediterranean-adjacent items on the menu. One of the people in my group ordered the Black & Blue Salad, which is basically a salad with steak and bleu cheese on it, plus lots of vegetables. It was huge! She ate a lot of it, and it looked like she barely made a dent. When she put the leftovers in the to-go container, she almost needed two containers! It became a running joke that day and for a couple of days afterward about whether or not she actually finished that salad. This is also the location for the 6Pak Bottle Shop, which is basically a liquor store but intensely curated. They have a nice selection of craft beers and wine. There is also a bar downstairs, which I didn't have the pleasure of visiting. Another great thing about The Cellar is that they are open late! Sometimes until midnight, and sometimes until 2 a.m. I guess that makes sense, as they are located basically right across the street from Virginia Tech.

The Cellar has a basement bar. We snagged a few bar seats. The bar server was great. He provided us waters. He quickly took our cocktail orders and made some very delicious cocktails. My sour apple martini was so good that that a second one was in front of me quickly. One of us ordered a full sandwich meal and that sandwich looked humongous and full of meat. We also ordered sides of curly fries. These were fried fresh. It's somewhat of a dark speakeasy vibe. The crowd was tame compared to some of the other bars down the street. We hope to try the full restaurant in our next visit.

They offer a nationally acclaimed menu that's been featured on NPR, Southern Living Magazine and even the ACC Network. They offer their own parking lot in the rear A huge rarity in a college area. It was clean and maintained. It was a treat to meet the owner in front of the tavern tending to landscaping needs. The historic homes facade presents beautifully. There is also outdoor seating. Our party of seven enjoyed a Sunday brunch while knowing little about the establishment. We were promptly greeted with a smile and menus and seated on the front room. Each of the four interior rooms has a fireplace and nostalgic photos adorn the walls. They also have a small bar with a focus on bourbon. The menu had one hit after another with authentic Southern cooking. The description calls it a "Traditional Regional Farmers Menu."No question the fried chicken is the hero. Five out of seven got the fried chicken. Others the chili and meatloaf. A plate of biscuits and cornbread were placed on the table after drinks placed. The history of the tavern on the menu is worthy of your time. The owner, originally from Blacksburg moved from California to restore for his own home. Later opening the restaurant. His goal to keep the structure original and true to purpose as a tavern. The owner himself comes from a family of tavern proprietors. I digress too long! The FOOD ALREADY!!! Well as you have probably already guessed it was impressive and exceeded my expectations. Every main, every side was a home run. From the mash potatoes & gravy to the macaroni & cheese, backed apples and green beans, to the rarely found succotash. All fabulous! Only starter was ham biscuits which were good. Mains of chili and meatloaf strong. But it was the fried chicken that brings local and tourist alike in the door. The chicken was cooked up to perfection and deliciously moist The breading was exceptional as well with no dripping grease and a medium crispy finish. The only desert ordered was the brownie & ice-cream. So yummy! The owner Daniel checked in on us before departing which made our experience even more special. The Blacksburg Tavern is a Southwestern Virginia gem that's a must to dine at. Checkout was efficient and prices affordable for large quality dishes. I will return later this year and hope to catch live music. Highly recommend.

I was caught off guard when my friend walked up the stairs to the house because from initial appearance, I wouldn't have thought this was the restaurant! Upon walking in, the host greeted us and told us his name was Dan and that he was the owner of the restaurant! It was really cool to see that the owner is truly passionate about his restaurant and will show up to put in the work, even during the later hours. In terms of the food, I went with the Hungry Hokie which was a mashed potato bowl with with bits of meatloaf and chicken, green beans, macaroni and cheese. It also came with a biscuit or cornbread, I opted in with the cornbread. The food was absolutely hearty and had pretty good flavor! The one wish that I had was that it came in a bigger portion as it didn't fully fill me up. If I was in town again, I'd definitely consider going back to try the other items on the menu!

It was in the offing seemingly forever and they're still working the kinks out, with some of the noodles being unavailable when I checked, as well as their tea. By and large, I have not seen Asian cuisines in the fast casual world; Chipotle tried to get a spinoff called Shophouse going but it never really took off. The poke bowl places are the only ones I can think of that have really succeeded in this niche. Junzi promises some legitimately Chinese flavors, and it did deliver. The knife cut springy wheat noodles were thankfully back in stock when I decided to order, and they have a delightful texture. To fill out a bowl, a few vegetable options are available, and two different types of tofu are among the proteins. I found the griddled tofu mouthwatering and it did have a nicely crisped edge. The suite of other options was not huge but did include some nice things like Mandarin oranges and bok choy. I got a salad and a noodle bowl, and having skipped breakfast, was able to scarf down both bowls. The salad doesn't make a meal by itself is what I'm saying. I see some room for improvement in the menu, but when I've looked for literally anything Chinese and vegetarian-friendly in Southwest Virginia, I have not found much worth my time. The sauces and ingredients here delivered the taste I was hoping for.
