I've been looking for a gothic style store for a while... sadly, most of SF 'gothic' like stuff is more fetishwear. Disapointing anyways, this store has some 'designer' level clothing at varying prices that very wildly. Buying a 100 dollar pair of somewhat gothic style pants, the original owner guy I purchased from was kind of cool. we chatted things up, he kind of gave me some pointers for sf fashion spots, talked to me about some of the other items around the shop (including a 1000 dollar concealable leather pouch). I usually like to give things time... evaluate places before sticking with them... so opting to wait on anything else... I make a trip to japan (where I purchased another gothic style pants from the yellow house... which were even more disappointing that Ceiba. Details are in the review I made for them). Also, mind you, both pants are elastic and the material is a little thick, they were both very comfortable. after coming back, I had to get both pants repaired. the ceiba pants I've had to have repaired twice (but it still has more damage on it that I haven't gotten repaired. the pockets are falling apart for one) now while the japanese yellow house pants I've had to have repaired 3 times now. It's rare that I need to have my clothes repaired... mostly its seams coming undone and I can usually fix those myself.... usually... but these were more that the fabric was giving out. the seams were strong but the pants were fraying or giving out around the seams. I cant just sew that back in. I've gone to Ceiba twice to try to talk to them about the material, the pants, repairs... and just to find solutions. the first time for them to give me advice on to handle it myself... and the second time, after SEVERAL times having to pay to get them fixed, to see if maybe the item was just bad or something and finding more vendor and patron solutions. both times it was a woman this time and both times she could not help. I do not recommend people come here for clothes, its a nice name place to show off a bit and pretend to be more socioeconomically established but little more than that. read more

Landed in SF with a paycheck burning in my pocket and ready to buy some overpriced clothes in the city. A lot of the brands I like to wear are tough to find and when I saw Ceibo listed on one a store locator for one of those brands, I made sure to make it one of my first stops. For the sake of not wasting a second more of my time on this establishment, put simply, Chebo sucks. The guy who runs or owns this store is the worst excuse of a retail salesmen I have ever met. This place sucks, and for the stuff they carry it's all the worst pieces from each of my favorite brands. Avoid the crank who runs this place and support a local shop who cares about their customers. I can't say enough good things about this store and the people that run it. When I wanted something a little special for my girlfriend on Christmas, I called Ceiba. I'd shopped there before and had such a wonderful experience, that I thought they'd be able to help me out. Well, Anat walked me through the store on video, and remembering our style preferences, picked out a bunch of items she thought my girlfriend like in particular. Then, when one of the items didn't fit well, she contacted the manufacturer, and arranged for me to exchange it, and was a pleasure to work with for the whole process. Amazing festival/party wear. Fantastic leather pieces, gorgeous jewelry, and really unique outfits that you really can't find anywhere else. While most things here are quite expensive, the quality is unparalleled. I have gotten a few outfits here over the years, including two absolutely epic dresses and a leather ninja assassin vest (yes, as cool as it sounds) and can't wait to get more. Good bye money, hello phenomenal alter-ego! A lot of reviews mention unfriendly staff, however I have had the opposite experience with Anat - she's lovely, helpful, and has once sent me a video of a dress that would be perfect for a party I was planning to attend. This place is awesome for one of a kind clothing that is handmade by some local artists as well as non local ones. Great jackets, fuzzy hats, great accessories -- all very unique and worth the price you pay. I get in touch with my inner raver by coming here... This is my favorite place in the SF Bay Area to shop for clothes. They have fun, unique outfits. They got the sexy stuff too, if you dare :) Some pieces are pretty expensive, but most are moderate. I went back to Ceiba a couple of months ago after years without visiting the store. I had an event to attend and wanted a whole set of new outfits for the occasion. But I was feeling a little lost there. Then this lady called Anat (spelling?) asked me what I was looking for. Then she said: "Hold on. I will be right back". Whenever I'm in SF, I make it a point to visit Ceiba. Even my boyfriend looks forward to checking out the clothing with me. We've made several visits over the last couple of years and most recently in March. We went in twice this last trip and had the pleasure of being helped by both Anat and Peter. Anat has helped me before so I already knew how lovely she is. Peter is equally engaging with a wonderful and witty sense of humor. When he helped us on our last day, he could not have been a better host. Ceiba would be a unique store in any shopping neighborhood and it certainly isn't like anything else you'll find on Haight. It's a must destination if you're in SF and looking for some unique pieces to add to your wardrobe. I think there are many facets to Ceiba and much of it is about your interpretation of the clothing and what style genre you're drawn to. I see it as more sophisticated than some of the similar shops you might find in other cities or online. I'm really drawn to the avant-garde, futuristic designs and the overall vision that Peter has created for his store. I feel like Ceiba is truly iconic. The possibilities are endless when it comes to styling and how you might personalize each piece. There is a lot to take in when looking around in Ceiba. Sensory overload! I think you need to take the time to try things on to really appreciate why some of these designs are so special. That's where Anat comes in. I just have to say that I've never enjoyed being helped by someone as much as her....ever! She's friendly, engaging and has an amazing eye to style you. She really understands the clothing and explains the details you might not notice right away. She's professional while also being fun and genuine. My advice is...take a look around, find a few things you love and then let Anat go around the store to hand pick some things for you to try on. She's never pushy or just trying to sell you something. If you don't love it then it's not a big deal, try something else. Some of my favorite purchases are items I'd have never noticed or picked up if not for her. Unless you're able to buy out the store, you'll probably have to keep a note of things you want to purchase in the future. There are just so many wonderful pieces to love and invest in. Don't walk, run the hell out of this store. Do not give them one cent of your hard-earned money. My experience with this awful store happened five years ago and it still bothers me. When my daughter was in high school she had a showcase for two major record labels. We needed outfits and so I spent a lot of money at this store. Turns out they had moths and one of the dresses had a moth hole in it that we didn't see until we got home. One of the other items didn't go with what she was going to wear and so I called the store the next morning to tell them about the moth hole and the return. Mind you, we had asked the saleswoman if it would be okay to return anything she didn't need for credit and were told it would be fine. When I called, the saleswoman got a bit strange but we decided to make the trek back to SF (we live an hour away) on our way to the airport. Once we got to the store the saleswoman got really weird and seemed to be in a hurry for us to get this return processed. That's when the nutball owner showed up and started accusing us of creating the hole. He told us he didn't have moths (we actually saw one flying around). He made a big huge deal of giving us a $225 credit that was handwritten on the back of receipt paper. It was the strangest, most obnoxious shopping experience I have ever had. So obnoxious that I kept that credit in my wallet for years but could not bring myself to go back into that awful store. I was certain that he would tell us that we had created it. I just threw it away because every time I'd find it in my wallet, it would bother me. My daughter didn't want to go back either. I could not get her to use it either. I even tried to get her to give it to a friend of hers who lives in SF. I'm especially bothered that we didn't redeem it because in essence, this awful owner got what he wanted. I just don't want this to happen to anyone else. I remember looking on yelp and reading some bad reviews but just ignoring them. DON'T IGNORE THE BAD REVIEWS. THEY ARE THE TRUTH. Do not give this store any money. There is something REALLY wrong with the owner and any salesperson who would put themselves in the position of working for him. Like so many other reviewers for this shop, we, too, were bamboozled by the astoundingly horrific "customer service" brandished by Ceiba SF. My wife had the misfortune of following through with a purchase even after the store owner was unable to restrain himself from a steady stream of insults directed at her Saturday-casual wind breaker and, ironically, my hair ( he is bald ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ). Against our better judgement, we made a pretty exorbitant purchase that we felt would be justified in quality. However, after two wearings, the seem in the back of the pants began to come apart, so we grudgingly made the decision to walk back down to the shop in hopes of getting a store credit. It had been several weeks since the purchase, so while we weren't expecting a refund, we thought we might either get a store credit or a simple exchange. Had we the foresight to have researched just how poorly this store treats its customers, we would never have embarked upon such an exercise in futility, but like normal people, we thought the owner would be both appalled and mortified that such an expensive article of clothing was literally falling apart at the seems. This was definitely not the case. First, he insisted there was nothing he could do because we didn't have a receipt. This is not a problem for 99% of retail in the modern world, as this is isn't 1982 and there is a digital footprint for every non-cash purchase. When I pointed this out, he then said "I think you are here just because you need four hundred dollars". I haven't been poor-shamed since I was actually poor growing up in rural Ohio during the Reagan era. It's very difficult, as an adult, to be properly braced for such juvenile disparagement by an even older adult in customer service. The conversation, if one can call it that, escalated to the point where he was actually shouting expletives at us as the other remaining customers went ducking for cover, escaping out the front door to safety. I have come to understand this is a pretty typical Monday evening for Peter, the owner, who has had many, many unhappy customers making decidedly unreasonable demands like the clothes they purchased at a premium not precipitate wardrobe malfunctions after a couple of wearings. Fortunately for Peter, it seems most of his business is accomplished by unsuspecting tourists who don't realize they have walked into the Ross-For-Less of faux-boutique fashion, and therefore he needn't be concerned with a soup-nazi like reputation as it is mostly one-off purchases, and by the time the duped customer realizes it, they are hundreds of miles away Googling clothes repair hacks for suckers. read more

I will echo in support of the past reviews: Ceiba, while it has a great selection of alternative festival apparel, is staffed and/or owned by some very pretentious individuals. I came here once about a year ago and again today. Both times, the service has been less than friendly and keeps me from purchasing anything. I really wish the owner would listen to his/her customers - every customer counts because word of mouth is important. Regardless of whether Ceiba carries designs rarely found elsewhere, their arrogant approach is, in my experience, a misrepresentation of the designers' efforts and overall culture behind the creativity which tends to be open, friendly and community oriented. Wonderland on 24th in the Mission is much friendlier and carries similar, some identical, pieces. And, Five & Diamond, which also scores higher on the customer service end, is in the same neighborhood. Making the trip is worth it, or contacting the designers through their Facebook or business websites will make a statement. Ceiba, great merchandise, but come back down to Earth, please! read more

If there was one high-end boutique I'd recommend for the darkly-inclined, it would certainly be Ceiba in San Francisco. I consider all my visits to the store to be memorable events, and each time I visit, I go with every intention of walking out with a wonderful addition to my wardrobe. --Stellar, Unique Selection I can't say enough about the selection, which is a collection of high-class festival and clubwear that has been carefully curated by an expert eye. The women's section at the front of the store is filled with gorgeous and unique conversation pieces that look like they belong on a runway or photo shoot. There are hoods positively dripping in black gems, eye-catching and elegant harnesses and pouches, and an array of vests and dresses that would stop passersby in their tracks. I have always envied women's fashion, but Ceiba elevates my feelings to a whole new level. But not to worry, gentlemen - the men's section in the back is refreshingly well-stocked with an array of tasteful but daring designs. If you are looking for something avant-garde that is higher-quality but still affordable, Ceiba has you covered. After all, not everyone has $400 to spend on a pair of pants, and I think Peter knows that. --Superb Customer Service I realize that other reviews have said that the staff was off-putting, but I have had a different experience with the store. On each visit, I was helped by a different staff member, and no matter who helps me, they have all been very friendly and helpful. Even when there was another customer in the store, I felt like the staff was always ready to help and they were very bright and cheerful. --Memorable and Satisfying Purchase Experiences The first time I stepped into Ceiba was with two friends from Europe. One is a fashion model and the other is a fashion photographer, and they aren't easily impressed. Out of all the stores in the city that I took them to, even on the Haight, this was the only store they bought anything from. The employee who helped us was very helpful and made us feel right at home. The second time I visited Ceiba was with an artistically-inclined friend from college. Peter greeted us warmly and patiently helped us with a glove that seemed to be caught on my friend's hand. Anat was so helpful that day, and with her help, we picked out a wonderful piece for my friend to wear to the club that evening. When we mentioned the event (Death Guild's Anniversary Celebration), she told us excitedly that she was going as well, and it was a delight to bump into her at the club. As my friend browsed, I also found a little rack in the back with clearance items, which must have been left over from the "end of the season" sale. There, I found one of my most-treasured pieces - a Psylo coat which not only fits me like a glove and suits my style perfectly, but is incredibly warm (which is important in SF and my home state Montana). And it was 30% off! While I know that it was likely a seasonal item that I bought off-season, I felt very happy with the $110-$120 I paid for it and thought it really was a steal. My coat gets complimented on a regular basis, even by random strangers. In fact, I even went back a few days later and bought another of the same coat because of how happy I was with my purchase. The female employee who helped me was very friendly and did not pressure me at all while I was shopping. At checkout, Peter gave me a better price than I paid on the first coat, gave me music suggestions, and chatted about the Kraftwerk show and Death Guild. He made me feel right at home, made sure I had a receipt, and suggested I stop by any time, even if I don't buy anything. --Recommendation I honestly think that Ceiba is a must-visit destination in San Francisco for anyone who is darkly-inclined. If you are into high-end fashion or you go clubbing or attend festivals, or even if you're an ex mall-goth who wants to dress in more-appropriate/classy clothing, you will certainly love this place. If you like Industrial, you might have a nice conversation with Peter, and regardless of what your intents are for the day, you'll receive excellent service from his employees. I am a person who walks into Ceiba with every intent of purchasing something though, so please bear that in mind.It is possible that I receive different treatment because of this. That or I might have gotten lucky while others have simply walked in at the wrong time. That said, I am a college student on a budget and even I consider the place affordable. I am also decidedly an introvert and have still received wonderful service. So take from that what you will. Ceiba certainly has my stamp of approval and I will always bring friends here when I can. Nice alternative style clothing and accessories store. Found them online and 1st and had a lot of expectations which day differently realized and that's real and nicely in design space. The quality of the stuff which they carry is it top notch. Most of the stuff is designed for burners, festival goers, and people who prefer a new motor and alternative dress styles to their everyday the sneakers. I love the design and creative ideas these guys put out and not store and is easy to find as well. So do yourself a favor go there check it out and find something unique which means you. read more

OK, this is my first ever Yelp review. It takes a lot to get me inspired to do this. And the team at Ceiba SF is exactly that. I am a HUGE fan of Ceiba. I have been shopping there for Burning Man for about 7 years. They always have amazing, high quality clothes and accessories (for men & women). The best in the city. They have a high fashion, edgy style that is beyond any other store in the city (and there are now a few select other good stores). They constantly have an amazing selection of highly crafted clothes for Burning Man and an every day edgier fashion forward taste. Annat and Peter are always incredibly nice and helpful. I don't know how they remember me since I come in only once a year. But we always talk, catch up, and they know my taste and style and have rest suggestions each time I come in. The clothes are certainly unique and stylish, but keep in mind, this is San Francisco, and you can find clothes as nice as these someplace else. I agree with the other reviews here- the owner is very rude and condescending. He tries to push the most expensive items on his customers and almost demands that you "buy more, buy it all!" and when you don't, you're quickly ignored and shuffled out. We shop the Haight often, but the owner of Ceiba Records does not deserve your money. This shop reminds me of a Shibuya boutique, and for once that is not a good thing. Just like most of Shibuya the clothes are overpriced and a bit eccentric yet not inspired. The women's clothing selection certainly has more to offer than the men's, but the above commentary still applies. Despite the name, and the writing in the window that says "Art - Clothing - Music" this is far from anything but a clothing boutique. The music selection is nothing but maybe 16 CDs in the back. The only thing that could be considered art were 3 large framed prints high on the wall that seem like something you'd find on DeviantArt, and did not appear to be for sale. My suggestion would be to replace the words "Art" and "Music" with object modifiers for clothing. Adjectives are useful that way. While I can see why some people would enjoy this place, it's not for me, and it's certainly not the Holy Grail other people have made it out to be. Wow! This store is where it's at :) I recently visited Ceiba after hearing about it from friends. They have a great selection of unique, alternative, and couture pieces. If you are interested in fashion and are staying/living in the bay area, you NEED to visit this boutique. THEY HAVE IT ALL! I was looking in the mens section upstairs, and Spencer helped me find a great jumpsuit. The brand was Demobaza. LOVE IT :D I had so much fun in this store! Shopped here and Five & Diamond in the same day. Ceiba has a wider selection of clothing which was nice, but the owner needs a serious attitude adjustment. My experience: I'm browsing the store, carrying around a $50 skirt that I was debating purchasing. The owner asks if I'm planning to buy the skirt, and I say I'm not sure, I'm still thinking about it. A few minutes later I spot the rack next to the checkout counter which has the store's most awesome, expensive pieces hanging on it. I ask if he would mind if I step past the counter to take a closer look, and he waves me away, saying "The cheapest piece there is $600. You're not even sure you're going to spend $50 on a skirt, don't waste your time looking at this stuff." Wow. Not a good way to make a sale, buddy. I've been known to splurge now and then if I think something I want is really worth it. Just because I was debating whether the $50 skirt I was carrying was actually worth $50 to me doesn't mean I'll never spend more on something great. I might have found something on that rack I thought was worth a splurge, or worth saving up for. I might have even simply enjoyed the experience of oggling and admiring awesome things I may never buy and left thinking "wow, what a cool store". Not gonna happen though since I wasn't allowed to see the rack, nor am I inclined to support this guy's business with a large purchase any time soon. I chose not to get the skirt either. read more

I show him a ripped glove and he says that I should be happy he doesn't charge me for it and to not try any of the "women's" gloves on (it was unisex according to the style and the actual manufacturer's website, and what does it matter anyway) he also saw my friend taking notes on product names and walked up behind her and peered over to see what she was writing. I went into Ceiba last night with a friend and I was happy to say, my shopping experience was great - The staff, including Peter, were friendly and helpful ( a little goofy even!) and it seems like they have taken the feedback people have provided to heart and developed some more levity on the floor. There is a wide variety of clothing and price points and some excellent deals right now, particularly on coats and jackets. I visited this place for the first and only time while on Vacation in SF last month and wow! This place has some of the coolest clothing I have ever seen! Most of the gear looks to cater to the Burner crowd and has a bit of a classy Mad Max inspired style to it but there is also a lot of stuff I'd like to see walking down the street any ol' day of the week.. You'll pay a hefty price for what you buy here but you can tell it's all well made and your not likely to run into someone else who has the same thing. Such a disappointment. The clothes here are amazing. The music playing in the store is awesome. But the guy working there (the owner?) is, sadly, an a-hole. Sounds like others have had similar experiences. Here's my story: Like I said, the clothes are incredible - all very unique with amazing designs, details, and fits. A particular jacket caught my eye. No, it more than caught my eye; I was in love with it. Even though it was over $400, I was in a spendy mood, so I was undeterred. It came in several colors, but there were limited sizes on the floor, so I asked the gentleman if he had any additional sizes in the back. I didn't catch his name. He was slim, white, mid-40-something, with a bic-shaven head, if that helps. Right away I sensed an annoyed vibe from him. After a curt response that he was busy at the moment, I waited before he reluctantly went into his back room to find my size and returned with a size large and a size XL. The large ended up being the right one, so it was now a question of color. I asked to try on a size large in two of the other colors available. In response, he pretended to be puzzled: "but... you already have a large... it's the same coat. I'm not going in the back to get other larges out." What he was trying to say was that now that I know my size, it was a waste of his time to let me try other colors on to see what COLOR I liked. His point was apparently that I had all the information needed to make a decision that he could be inconvenienced to give me. Sorry, but I'm not about to spend $400 on a jacket you won't let me try on. Overall, the guy had this "just shut up and buy stuff" approach to customer service. Not a winning philosophy in my opinion. In the end, as I stood there contemplating my purchase, my struggle was not about whether I liked the jacket enough to spend $400. I did. It was "do I really want to give my money to this condescending jerk?" I laid the jacket down on the counter, said thanks, and walked out. My suggestion is to take your business to Five & Diamond. Similarly great clothes plus a nicer staff. Happy ending: I found the jacket designer's website and it is about $100 cheaper online. Looks like I'll be getting my jacket after all. read more

I had such a great experience at Ceiba last week. I popped in with a friend and Annat was brilliant, funny and as promised 'we had fun'. My only complaint is that she's such a good, honest sales person it was really difficult to not bankrupt myself. In the words of another customer to Annat, "I feel like I should just bring you my pay check straight to you each month and I'd be happy." I left on a happy high with two Demobaza pieces, a body suit from Lip Service and a dress. Annat was really kind and allowed me to write down sizes and details of all the pieces I didn't buy so my friend could get them for me if I changed my mind. I usually hate shopping, but Annat really did such a great job of finding my awesome pieces and encouraged me to push my fashion boundaries - I was literally bouncing around the shop basking in happiness. This is SF's female answer to NYC's male focused Store Untitled. A great collection of sexy, post apocalyptic & kink fashion. To the New Yorker, who complained about opening times. Sure, it's not NY. I know I live in NYC, but it's fantastically SF Haight and worth slowing down to savor. read more

The owner feels it is totally appropriate to tell female customers that they are (in his bizarrely misguided opinion) overweight, and once they lose some weight they can come back and fit into some of his clothes. read more

My attention gravitated to this place walking by. The designs are unique if you're into the goth style. The storefront is decked out with the racier designs, like spiked masks and face masks like bane from dark knight crap. My company is vanilla (I like how this phone autocorrects to canola, I may have to use the term interchangeably), who was probably aghast inside as I perused the shelves, thinking I'm actually into the racy numbers on the racks. The pictures posted on yelp are cooler and less racy than what I saw on the racks here. They have catalogs to order what you don't see and the staff was super nice. Ceiba deserves some recognition for what the store is trying to pull off. No other store in the city that I know of does quite what Ceiba does. The electronic music and clothing combo is unique, oh so cool, and just plain downright amazing. They carry an awesome selection of local designer clothing and much more inventory now than previous years. I think business is doing well. If you have not stopped by recently, do so again, it is worth the visit. My jaw almost dropped when I saw how much more clothing they had recently. Every time I stop by I find new stuff. They carry a lot of Hikari clothing which is almost impossible to find in the states. And last but not least a shout out to the owner. He is a wonderful hip man who is honest and greets your with a wave both in and out of the store. I see him often walking down Haight street. He will remember you and is so modest with his business. I never feel pressured to buy anything when I come in. They definitely got the look down for the underground electronic dance scene and for those who just want a bit more urban style.
