A mere 35 minutes drive from Manchester (Traffic pending) it really is a perfect get away type location. Manchester is a vibrant and happeing place 7 days a week. The city is buzzing all year round depending on if you know where to go. Chester on the other hand is a tad sleepier which isn't a bad thing at all if you wanna get away from the hustle and bustle for an evening. A chilled out sunday vibe was desired last week and I got more than I bargained for. The place was busy but relaxed and there was the added bonus of it beinng an open mic night. (which, I think is a weekly thing. (I think) The decor of this huge pub is something that has to be experienced. In fact it has all the features I like in any building. High ceilings, exposed timbers, brick walls housing industrial artefacts and a gorgeous feature glass frontage (with a tranquil scene overlooking the canal) all make for a perfect setting for a great evening in my book. If any fellow yelpers wanna tag along I'll be heading back there soon on a sunday.

Situated on the canal side just little bit out from the city centre Tellfords is an re-purposed warehouse with a nice long bar and restaurant area upstairs. Good cask beer selection, a good few international beers on tap too. They have a good selection in their fridges and a good few wines available too to suit most tastes. Nice food menu which isn't too overpriced. Lots of locals that visit for meals. They have very nice staff who are helpful and efficient. Telfords offer a great choice of events from music to comedy. Good off street parking. Ohh and their beer garden is right on the canal side. Great for a bit of boat watching in the sun.

It seems that…read morethey focus largely on being a music venue but when we visited during the day for food and a few drinks we felt well looked after. The menu is all American "dude food" (as my dad calls it) which is a bit boring and overdone but I can't really blame them for this as everyone else is and people keep buying it. I was happy to see they had a few vegetarian options as even though I'm not veggie, I didn't really fancy a huge meat feast when I visited. All the food was perfectly tasty but just too huge and sloppy to be fully enjoyable. I had a halloumi burger with mushrooms and some sweet potato fries on the side. This was a really hefty chunk of halloumi which I struggled to get through. This could partly be attributed to the fact that I ate a sandwich on the train over from Manchester, but my parents and sister also struggled with their food (chicken wrap; burger; hot dog with chilli). If you want to eat here then come hungry! The food was really reasonably priced as well, coming in at under £30 for 4 meals and 3 sides. The draught beer selection was good as was the bottles. I chose a Buxton New World Saison and a Rhub IPA which were both really nice. The barman had misplaced all bottle openers somehow so I had to open them myself with a bottle opener I keep on my keys. In another place this would have been pretty scandalous but in a self-styled dive/student bar it was just quite funny. Graffiti in the toilets was plentiful and amusing, with both my mum and my sister sourcing numerous numbers to phone for sex should they feel so inclined, and me finding out that one patron loves Bill Murray. If I was a student in Preston I can imagine spending many happy hours in here, and if you're in town then it's only a 10 minute walk from the station and a good option for beers and burgers.

However the occasional Heavy/Death Metal act gets so loud in there that you need to literally stuff tissue bits in your ears and its impossible to order a drink from the bartender without your tongue almost being in hi ear. Eventhough sightly overpriced the food portions are relatively much bigger as well so if your a foodie, this isn't a bad place to be at .

I was introduced to Black Pudding, an acquired taste for even the English- pigs blood and intestines mashed into a hockey puck. I have nothing to compare it to but a taste of it was good for me. It was crispy, soft like pudding and a bit sweet. I opted for the tuna panini which was terrific. I read it came with chips which I figured were fries but got actual potato chips which was fine I guess. Michael said his All Day Breakfast was spot on except for the sausage which he described as cheap or watery. The other lads said there's were fine and devoured it spite being hung over. Before breakfast I asked to walk past the gates to witness the sprawling fields. I was welcomed with a bit of apprehension and took a few photos as you may see. Apparently no one asks to go back into the farm. I breathed in the cool air and appreciated the beauty of the English horizon. I was met by the owner, Bill Williams, in a tractor who stopped me to have a bit of a chat. He is a funny man when he said the view was "alright" and there wasn't much to see. I learned the farm was 400 acres and how he had a kick travelling the California coast line several years ago. When I return to Chester I will be sure to come back and eat here and say hello.
