Dinner for 6 or so about a week ago. They don't have a lot of seating for big groups, but they had a spot for us. Bring your cell phone, it'll make paying a LOT easier. The waitress apologized up-front that they were short-staffed that night and the wait could be longer than the norm, but we were happy though the food did take a bit long. I started with a Guiness which came out with a nice hear and a clover stamped into the foam! Never seen that one before. I had the fish and chips. The fish had an unusual cylinder shape, but tasted just fine, piping hot and moist. The sauce tasted very herby to me (dill?) but I liked it. The fries were good and plenty. The bill for each person had a QR code on it which when scanned allows you to pay with Apple Play. Nice! My friend had the Irish stew which he pronounced OK,and the folks that had the pastrami sandwich were also in the OK category. They also seemed to be out of a lot of their beer selections. I had great expectations for lunch when I found an Irish pub in Great Falls. Stopping by around 1 PM on a Friday afternoon, I was looking forward to a pastrami sandwich and a nice pint of Guinness. There was one waitress working the entire restaurant, which wasn't as bad as it sounds, considering there was only about 10 people or four tables in the whole restaurant taken, however, I was disappointed when ordering the pastrami sandwich - they only had enough left for a half sandwich. What Irish pub runs out of pastrami at 1 PM on a Friday afternoon? Needless to say I ordered the 1/2 sandwich and it didn't disappoint. I am giving the review 3 stars only because they didn't manage their supply of pastrami. I would definitely try this again though hoping to get a whole pastrami sandwich read more

We asked the locals, checked YELP, and decided on Celtic Cowboy. We have been here 2 times lunch and dinner during our stay. The decor is charming and the people are friendly. The Irish Stew is rich and flavorful, and we have eaten both times. Be sure to get a bowl because your date will eat some. We ordered the Pork Jaegershnitzel and the Corned Beef and Cabbage this time. The pork had onions and mushrooms in a flavorful brown gravy, and even though the pork is pounded thinner, it wasn't dry. I ordered some in-house mustard as an accompaniment with my Corned Beef, which added to the experience. The meat was tender, and the broth with it would have made a great soup. I have only 1 suggestion. The bar was busy, and the bartender was training a new person and making drinks for everyone. The 3 girls standing by the pass line could have brought out our salad instead of playing on their phones and chatting. We wanted it before our food. That one little glitch doesn't change the fact that the food was very good. We left happy and ordered some bread pudding to go. This is an amazing dessert. Ask for a little extra sauce. read more

So we are in town for a wedding and we have been staying at the Arvon and have been coming in daily to eat here. Can I just say my elderly father has been so happy with the food and staff. He's begging for recipes everything is so delicious. Aria has waited on us a few times and was wonderful. We have loved everything and the bread pudding and butter cake is to die for. This is my third or fourth visit to the Celtic Cowboy. I'm not local so I only stop in once a year or so when I'm here on business. The name brought me in the first time and I love the British pub feel to it. Plenty of great beers on tap and the food I have had here in the past, Reuben sandwich for one, has always been great. I had the Scotch eggs today since I have dinner plans elsewhere but the eggs were quite overdone. They really should be a bit runny in the middle while these were cooked completely hard. They were still tasty and I know some don't like the runny yolks. Regardless I always enjoy the Celtic Cowboy and recommend it for a drink or food. Enjoy! read more

Superbly mid. The whole place was dead. Absolutely beautiful building. We order Bloody Marys and they were very bland. Luckily there was steak sauce and hot sauce on the table to fix them up to make them almost drinkable, but with that we still left with a half full drink on the table. Great place for dinner. We started with some wings with barbeque sauce. They were gluten free and some of the best wings we have ever had. The wings were so good we returned the next night to get some to go for a family get together. Brussel sprouts were great (but unusually small). The fries were good but on the salty side, and the pork chops were good (but only average and could have been more moist). Staff was very friendly and attentive even when every table was full and they were running... Feels like an Irish pub that could be anywhere in the world, even in Ireland. read more

So, I wanted to like this place, and I went on a Saturday. I ordered the Roasted Brussels sprouts, the Fish and Chips, and the Bread Pudding. Unfortunately, the food mostly felt and tasted microwaved (for example, the plate was SUPER hot for the Brussel sprouts, but the actual food not so much so). The fish was okay, but the fries were overdone and kind of stale. The bread pudding was another one that was hot in the center, but cool on the outside, so a sign of microwaving. On top of that, from order to service was about 5 minutes, and both the appetizer and entree were served at the same time. Next time, I guess I'll just have to try a burger or something. Hopefully there will be an actual cook there then. read more

Stopped by on our way through town and were happily impressed! The steak chili was great, with huge chunks of tender steak. I had a half Greek salad and my husband had a half Southwest salad, both with lots of tasty chicken. Beer was also good -Northwest IPA and Blackfoot Single Malt IPA. Plus they have crowlers to go of the 20+ beers on tap. The inside has a lot of character, though we sat outside to enjoy the weather. Definitely recommend! read more

A place for a perfect lunch--outside on their front patio. More people are discovering this place, but that's fine. Lunch can get expensive $29, "all in", with tip. But I find it's worth it, at least once or twice a week. Inside is nice too--nice and cool out of summer's August heat! read more

Walking in, this place was empty, we had a whole crowd follow us in. The staff was easily able to accommodate all the different groups. The waitress was quick to get our order in. The goat balls were a great appetizer. The cheese was good quality and the breading on them was a nice texture change. I was really digging the cranberry-jalapeño compote, it was totally my jam (pun intended). The Shepard's pie was good, but a little small in size. The fish and chips were light and flaky. Way to fast to be done. And they weren't. Sent our Scotch eggs back because the sausage was raw. They put the same split eggs back in the fryer & brought them back to the table! Full of oil, still spots sausage was raw. Eggs were obliterated. Crab cakes had definitely sat in the fridge too long before the fryer. Staff didn't seem to care one way or the other. Super sad. I was in Great Falls and decided to try out The Celtic Cowboy. Being Irish and Manx, I am very partial to Irish pubs, so I thought I would give this place a shot. I arrived around 2p, and found the business still closed. The sign on the door listed the new hours as opening at 4p. I was pretty bummed, since other indications on this business' profile showed otherwise. Apparently, there have been a lot of changes; to the menu, the drink selections, and the hours. As I sat in my truck, I browsed Yelp for other establishments that were open that I may want to try. After browsing for a while and not finding anything interesting, I decided to wait it out. At about 3:45p, I got out of my truck and stood outside the restaurant to wait the last 15 minutes. The bartender, Allen, came to the door and popped his head out saying "We aren't open for another 15 minutes. Is there something I can help you with?" Allen had a very snarky tone. Really off-putting. I replied, "No, I'm just waiting until you open. I'm good." He then says, "Well you've been sitting here for two hours. It's kinda weird." I said "Yes, because I'm from out of town and this is where I wanted to come eat, so I have no problem waiting." He goes back in and shuts the door. Really dude? If you don't want my business or money, I can take it somewhere else. No reason to be rude. He was nicer later, thankfully. After 15 minutes, he emerges again and tells me I can go in. I enter, and the decor is pretty spectacular. Very historical and grand. I enter the restaurant and am greeted by the manager, Luke, who immediately asks if I have a mask to wear. I reply that I do and he informs me that masks must be worn inside. Whatever, I'll put it on. I go to my table and wait for service. Then I notice Luke go over and sit with some others. They all remove their masks and leave them off, so I took mine off. Nothing was said about it. My server, Chris, arrived quickly and handed me a laminated card with a QR code on it to scan for digital menus, but also advised that he has the paper ones too. I asked for the paper ones, to which he immediately grabbed. Chris was very friendly, polite, and attentive. He made sure I had everything I needed without being overbearing. I found out later that it was his first week there. He did a phenomenal job, which is why he got a great tip. To start, I ordered a Black & Tan beer (Guinness and Bass). I then ordered two appetizers, the Goat Balls (fried Goat Cheese balls) and the Scotch Eggs. They arrived after a few minutes. I started with the Scotch Eggs. WOW!! These were pretty amazing. Perfectly cooked to a golden brown and perfect texture and flavor. Absolutely delicious. The only con was that the sausage casing around the egg was a little thin. Previous pictures showed it thicker. No worries though. The order also came with a side of either hot or sweet mustard. I believe I got the hot one. It tasted like mustard and horseradish. It was great. Next was the Goat Balls. Omgosh!! These were fantastic! Warm and creamy goat cheese that melts in your mouth. The flavor was amazing and worked perfect with the breaded casing. This order came with a side of Ginger Horseradish sauce, which went perfect with the Goat Cheese. Both appetizers came on a bed of cabbage. I definitely recommend both these appetizers and I will certainly order them again every time I return. For my entrees, I ordered the Fish & Chips and the Southside Fish Tacos. I started with the Fish Tacos (Sorry, forgot to take a picture of them. Great appearance though). For the side, you can choose fries or homemade potato chips. I got the potato chips. The order came with two full fish tacos. I chose flour tortilla over the corn. The tacos were delicious!! Great flavor and fillings. The sauce inside was pretty runny, so I let it drip on my chips to add to the flavor. The chips had perfect texture and crunch, but tasted overly salted. I was only able to eat about 4 of them. Next up was the Fish & Chips. I ordered fries for the side. This order comes with 3 beer battered fish tenders on a bed of fries (or chips if you want those). The fries were pretty good, nothing special. The fish tenders were delicious! The fish had great flavor and perfect flakiness. The battered crust was a little soft and they probably could have been fried a couple minutes longer. But still delicious. It also came with sides of tartar, ketchup, and slaw. I tried the tartar and the slaw, even though I am not a fan of either. The tartar tasted freshly made and had good ingredients in it. If you like tartar sauce, you will love this one. The slaw tasted pretty good too. I actually ate it all. After finishing the fish and a few bites of fries, I was pretty full. For dessert, I had a Bailey's Cheesecake with Oreo crust. Absolutely delicious and worth every penny! Total cost: $60. It seems more Cowboy than it does Celtic, but I will be back. read more

Unimpressed. I ordered the salmon with a glass of wine. The salmon had a "soy glaze" so I expected it to be a little salty. Omfg it hurt to swallow it. It tasted like it was brined in saltwater, crusted with kosher salt, marinated with soy sauce, and then smothered in more soy sauce. I thought maybe it was just the soy, but the rice was equally inedible. I've never experienced anything like it. And I couldn't even take solace in the wine because the glass was FILTHY. UPDATE. They comped my meal, so at least the service is good! Stellar, actually. The server was so kind. I would go back and try a burger. read more

Whisky Lullaby Although the intention wasn't to sample some whisky we enjoyed quite a bit thanks to an irresistible menu and a knowledgable server. He made excellent suggestions and shared history as well as the view of the bottles for an authentic Montana made tasting experience. The food was hit and miss, either unbelievably delicious or nothing to write home about. We ate it all except for the dessert which was unfortunate as it was as visually appealing as it gets but fell short in execution. The bread pudding was very dry and the caramel sauce was burnt. Regardless the whisky experience was outstanding and the fish and chips were better than I've had across the pond or anywhere in the states. I wanted to love this place based on reviews I saw. The charcuterie board for $19 was a disappointment. It had some good meats, the accompaniments were lack luster, some cut up canned beets, some cut up jarred pickles, and some olives that had seeds in them. The bread also was stale tasting. The main course of a "pasty" which the waitress passive agreesively corrected me on saying it incorrectly, thanks by the way, was actually cool to temperature in the middle. Most cities in Montana are going through a "culinary Renaissance" of sorts. Great restaurants are popping up in Missoula, Bozeman, Billings, and even Helena. Great Falls, on the other hand, seems to have missed the boat. Trying to find a decent place to eat a group lunch was a definite challenge. If it weren't for Yelp, I may never have found the blessing that was the Celtic Cowboy. This pub has several large tables, making it great for groups. The atmosphere is casual, but the food is a bit more upscale than your standard pub fare. They are trying out some adventurous flavor combinations for Great Falls, although the flavors in my pomegranate, (unripened) mango, goat cheese salad didn't really play well together. Still, A for effort. The Gorgonzola-pecan salad dressing my husband had on his salad was delicious, but way too thick. I would recommend sticking to the Irish-themed fare. Both the lamb stew and the Reuben sandwich were wonderful. The prices are a bit higher than other places in town, particularly my salad, which was $10 for a portion only slightly larger than a side salad.
