Absolutely love this place. From the Irish pub aesthetics to the fun, something for everyone vibe. Now I have a reason to look foreword to our Great Falls work trips! We enjoyed lunch so well we came in for dinner that evening and breakfast the following morning. The lunch cheese and meat platter was spectacular, fed two of us to where we didn't even get to our turkey sandwich's! The ribeye was perfection, the black bean side was seasoned to delight. We heard about this place from a couple friends and decided to check it out. So happy we did!! The pub itself is so cozy and warm. Definitely a place to go hang out for a while. The bar is fully stocked and they had so many beers on tap! They even had a whiskey menu which was very cool. The service was amazing. We had Allison as a waitress and she killed it. I tried this place even when I have heard multiple bad reviews about them being slow to bring your food. We had a reservation for 7 and were about 10 minutes early. At this point it's been about 30 minutes (maybe more) since we've ordered and we haven't gotten our food yet and have only seen our waitress once. There are only 6 other tables with guests so I can't really imagine a good reason for the service to be so slow especially since we ordered a potato and carrot stew, Cesar salad and Mac and cheese. I came in to the Celtic Cowboy because I was staying at Hotel Arvon, which is attached to the restaurant. I'm not a huge fan of Irish food, so I didn't have super high expectations, but with the weather outside quite frightful, and playoff hockey in the many TVs around the bar, I was sold. I started with the Irish Stew. It was alright, but on the salty side. The bread it's served with was completely inedible to me. For an entree, I ordered the smoked turkey sandwich, which I was told was served on house made focaccia. The focaccia was nice and pillowy, but I couldn't eat it. It was WAY over seasoned. There were so many herbs and spices on it, I couldn't taste anything else. I settled for eating the turkey and bacon out of the sandwich. I also inhaled the house made chips. These are SO good. They're also on the appetizer menu, so get you some!! For dessert, I treated myself to a Blanton's neat. And then I had to order a double. They're quite light on the pours here. The bourbon and whisky list is VERY impressive though! A special shout out to Theresa, my server. She was awesome! I had had a long day driving before I got to Great Falls and was a little brain dead and very tired. She was patient, gave lots of recommendations, and had a genuine, huge smile on her face all night. The Fish and Chips were a decent offering with malt vinegar on the table, just as it should be. Now, I'm not particularly put off by pricing if the food and atmosphere warrant it, but this place is a bit on the high side when it comes to the food. We've had better fish and chips at much lower prices, but oh, those Scotch Eggs. A great beer selection enhances this option for lunch or dinner...just get a brew and the Scotch eggs and you'll cluck with carbonated joy. read more

I will start out with a positive... the food was good. However.... we waited 2 hours for it to be served. And BEWARE OF THE MENUE! It has changed and you will not be informed when you place your order. All your food will be wrong. They will offer no apology or compensation. Great Falls does not have many fun, upbeat and inviting restaurants that also serve good food. Fortunately, the Celtic Cowboy bucks that trend. It could be simply that we visited during St Patrick's Day weekend, but this restaurant does a great job at combinding quality food with an upbeat atmosphere oftentimes filled with live music and TVs showing live sporting events (soccer and rugby are tops here). Being an Irish Pub it's no secret that there's plenty of booze on tap but there's also good food that you want to order too. We wasted no time diving into quality food and you can start with the shepherd's pie. The pie taste like it was made on site and was wonderful just like the bread that came with it. Personally I ordered the Guinness soup and would order it again in a heartbeat. What great flavor it had. We also started with a Scotch eggs and it didn't take long to realize that they put a lot of care into even their appetizers. When it comes to the main dish there's so many quality ones to choose from that it can be tough to make a decision. However we went with a few standbys and weren't disappointed. The corned beef and cabbage, fish and chips and the Irish Reuben are go to items that I would recommend eating. What impressed me most was unlike most places in Great Falls all of this tasted like it was made on site not pulled out of the freezer and reheated. They even make their own chips and the corned beef tasted like it came out of a Jewish deli. Whether you live in Great Falls or you're driving through town this is one of the better dining options that's available to you. read more

My first visit here for lunch. Was looking for some good fish and chips on a Friday. They were not very busy about 30 total for lunch. Our server was friendly and we order 2 fish and chips. We got 2 pieces of fish a handful of fry's, a side of their sauce and a very small side of Cole slaw. The fish was served warm not hot, the fry's under cooked, limp not hot, the cole slaw was servers warm and Bubbling, the sauce was ok. I asked my server for some hot fry's and cold Cole slaw she replaced my request in a few minutes. The cod fish tasted good the batter had a good beer flavor. I don't know if they were just having a special but the man across from us she offered him more fish because I guess you could get more fish if you would like so when she returned to our table we asked if we could have another piece of fish. About 15 minutes later she brought out an extra piece of fish for each of us are a small square appetizer plate with a lemon I Asked if I could have more tartar sauce since I was out she brought us both a side of tartar sauce. The tartar sauce was different from the first sauce we got but I would have to say I really enjoyed their homemade tartar dill sauce had nice big chunks of pickle in it the fish that we got the second time was undercooked it was raw inside we didn't eat but one bite. The flavor of the fish was good and the batter just need to serve hot food hot and cold foods cold And make sure the fish is cooked through. read more

Service was a little slower than we're used to in Vegas, but that is what we experienced everywhere we went in Montana over our 4 day trip. Came in from out of town and my wife wanted to eat "at a pub or something like that". Found The Celtic Cowboy, looked promising so we went. I really want to give this place at least 4 maybe 4 1/2 stars but unfortunately I can't. Although the food had the right ingredients, looked good etc., it didn't pan out. Both our dishes were served "cold", like they had been sitting out after they were made. Bun was crusty, pilaf was not even warm and so on. Cold food that should be at least warm if not hot loses a LOT of flavor and texture. It may have been inattention on the part of the wait staff but they weren't busy, had plenty of help, enough that some were just standing around. I think our experience could have been much better and maybe I'm blaming the undelightful food on the restaurant and the blame should be on the wait staff...I don't know. read more

While in town on business I saw this place listed on yelp with pretty good reviews and decided to stop in. There was no real rush as it was a Monday night and relatively late for dinner so there was no problem getting a seat. The food (steak medallions) was very good, the beers were cold and the service was good. At the time they had live music, which wasn't bad, but left me a bit confused at eclectic choices made by the man singing. I expected either country or Celtic and barely got either of the two. I especially enjoy the local bands that play on the small stage there. I've yet to eat or drink poorly there, either, though several guests of mine have told me they were unable to navigate the menu as successfully and consistently as I have been able to. The only deductions here are for the non-stop advertising for itself the place is always playing on a continuous loop on a central screen behind the bar, and the frequency with which the wait staff gets overwhelmed and cannot seat you (so you stand by a "Wait to be seated" sign for a long while) or serve you (so you sit at a table with a menu or an empty glass or needing a check for a long while) without being helped. Our group decided to enjoy an Irish night out at the Celtic Cowboy. I'll admit I was a bit skeptical about this place and my expectations were low. My apologies to Celtic Cowboy, I was way off base. Our group put our waitress to work as we wanted samples of their extensive beers on tap (at least 20), ordered multiple adult beverages, asked menu questions and kept her running around most of the night. I sampled a few of the beers but went with my normal beverage of choice, cranberry vodka. They offer two menus, their pub menu with prices around $10-$12 and then their dinner menu with prices from $17-$30. I loved the classic Irish dishes being offered such as, Shepherd's Pie, Fish and Chips, Irish Breakfast, and Corned Beef and Cabbage. I opted for the Fish and Chips which had a fun twist with Bloody Mary battered cod served with a cayenne sour cream dipping sauce. I love spicy, and this dish called out my name as I was searching for the perfect dinner. Our food did take some time to arrive but we were a table of eight so I wasn't expecting any less. The entire table was silent as our dishes arrived and we started moaning over each heavenly bite. All the dishes were plated beautifully and represented exactly what was described on the menu. My fish and chips were home made and the cod was moist and flaky on the inside with a perfectly crispy exterior. I devoured all three pieces of fish and easily finished off the fries. Depending on what you order, the bill can add up quickly so I would pay attention to what your order. I found our server to be friendly and efficient and she was able to keep up with our large group and our ever growing demands. When I return to Great Falls for business I will be making a return visit for my Irish fix. read more

We used to come here all the time a few years ago. Well they clearly got some chefs that do not care about the food they are cooking. I had shepherds pie yesterday and it had 0 flavor. The whole thing was more like a mushy soup and not a shepherds pie. My husband ordered some fried pickles and they he could not even eat them. It was one big clump of small fried pickles. The old ones used to be so good. The last 3 times we have come here we have been super disappointed. Yesterday was probably our last time going there. read more

We went this place after a recommendation from our hotel concierge. I preface this with it is a 4 for this part of the US. If it was in a metropolis it would receive a 3 from me. It is located in a beautiful historic brick building in the old downtown. It is decorated very well with pics from Ireland. There are tons of the so it would be a good place to watch sports. It was late in our trading day so I we not too hungry. I ordered the the fish cakes and red pepper soup. They only had one of the fish cakes left so the bar tender kindly gave it to me and I ordered the mahi mahi fish tacos. My hubby got the endive salad with salmon. I am glad there was only one fish cake because it was very dry and Unflavorful. If it was all I ate I would have given this place a 3. The roasted red pepper soup was oh so good! It had the creaminess of tomato soup with a little spicy kick. The mahi mahi tacos were good, but the pineapple salsa seemed like it was just canned pineapple and salsa added to the top of the fish. It was very juicy so we drained it over a napkin before we ate it. My hubby's salad was a 4 for him. The endive was grilled and that was something he had never had before and he enjoyed it. Had to suffer though the longest, most ridiculous sound check for a 2 piece band on Friday night. 30 plus minutes and never actually heard them play.
