Note that at this time (August 2019) there seems to be peace here in Tijuana. Manufacturers are coming here from all over the world for various reasons to start up manufacturing operations. With the current China-US trade war, there is a lot interest from companies dealing with China. The area is now growing again and after 911 there was a transition to serve the local community. Now there are fewer curio shops and more restaurants, brew pubs, coffee houses, and International food courts. If you are on the fence about coming here, get off it and come visit. You can get it in "orders" (órdenes) which are a sort of very spicy meat stew or in Tacos. These can be soft ('blanditos') or fried golden ("dorados"). Didn't realize they close at 2pm and literally ran out of the convention center and sped straight here. Hooooooly this was hands down the best birria I've ever eaten, the handmade tortillas are perfection (can also get crispy tortilla), the ramen is spicy and amazingly seasoned, the birriaquiles interesting, and the staff SO friendly! Like the friendliest I've met in a long time too. The girl taking my order took the time to ask about options for everything since I didn't know and wasn't ordering it correctly. I'm really glad she asked about the tendon cause that was bomb--if you love braised beef shank, the tendon is a must. We got here kind of late, almost closing time, and they were beyond helpful with a big-ish dine in order and two to-go orders. I genuinely loved everything and was wolfing it down lol (my pants are now tight). I will absolutely be back, hopefully sooner than later.
