Unreliable made an appointment twice for a roofing estimate they never showed up. Second time I called they apologized but still never showed up. Terrible business ethics no integrity at all. Stay away there are hundreds of roofing contractors in the county and you want to know the kicker here I have done work for them in the past, and they still didn't have the decency to show up. Go figure I wouldn't hire them now if they offered me 50% off a new roof. read more

I live in Cambria, folks had many recommendations but I decided to go with Cen Cal. I am not sure if it was the customer service, the price, or the wonderful energy the Can Cal Family put out. I love my new roof. The quality and execution on getting this old roof ripped off and replaced was incredible. They sent over a wonder SQUAD of roofer that just came in and made the magic happen. Every time I drive down the road and I see that beautiful new hickory roof I am just so PUMPED. Thing is a work of art. They did a great job tarping off the area, even the driveway before they pulled in. They were so clean, and professional. I definitely recommend this family business. They did such a great job. You get what you pay for, but they didn't gouge me on price at all. Do yourself a favor, call these folks to do your roof. Meticulous clean up as well. Their bid was $10,000 higher than the next guy and the reason he gave for it was because he didn't hire Mexicans! Needless to say I didn't hire them! Response: I guess you were implying that you didn't hire illegal Mexicans then when you said it? And the bid I got from the other guy was better and not just a simple re-roofing they did all the repairs and everything. You can call me a liar if you want but it's what you said it was very offensive to me! I called the company when you sent me an email asking me if I was going to schedule the roofing... And told them I was offended by what you said I got nothing in return no feedback from you that you were wrong and that you wouldn't do that again or to clarify any meaning of what you said. The roof estimator is a hard headed and difficult person. The potential customer is on his schedule. When he makes mistakes he never fixes them promptly. It is only when he feels like it. Since customer service starts with him, I suggest you look for another roofing company. The company thinks too highly of themselves. Nice not to worry about the next job. I am very disappointed in Cen Cal Roofing. Last fall I had Rusty come out to inspect the roof that they had installed about 12 years ago for my Uncle. My Uncle died and as beneficiary, I was getting the house ready to sell. The home inspector (another company) said that I should have it inspected. Rusty told me that the roof was in good shape. Fast forward to June. I accepted an offer on the house. The buyer had CenCal out to inspect the roof. Rusty again inspected it and gave the buyer a bid for $6444.00 to repair the roof. So the buyer wanted the price of the house reduced to reflect that bid along with a few other things. I was shocked that in a period of less than a year, this was the case. I called CenCal and asked them to have Rusty call me and explain to me how I could reconcile the difference. They said they would pull the file and have Rusty call me. He never did. Long and short of it is that I view their work as suspect. And their customer service as lacking. They ended up costing me money on the deal and I suspect the reason that Rusty (or anyone else for that matter) didn't return my call is because they could not reconcile the difference. I will not do business with them again. read more

I had CenCal install a steel roof on my new home, in Atascadero. I post five stars, because 10 stars isn't available! My wife and I were having trouble finding the color we wanted for our new home. (a light gray) Our contractor was useless to help. Don, the owner of CenCal, stepped in and personally helped us find that color! A pleasure to deal with! When they did the installation, they sent out some really nice people who did an amazing job! Their attention to detail was top notch. Little things like folding the corners and terminations was exquisite work! Total professional work! I'm VERY happy with their finished product and would recommend this company to anyone! read more

I was asked by a neighbor who lives in the Valley who did my roof and gutters. I told him Cen Cal Roofing. He called me and asked if I had looked at Cen Cals Yelp for reviews. I told him no. He advised that I should. So here I am. I am taken back by the few negative reviews here. My experience was/is 180 degrees from these negative reviews. In transparency, I was a licensed contractor years ago. I have been a business owner for 36 of my 60 years of life. So, suffice it to say I understand contracting and business. My experience with Rusty was nothing short of professional and cordial from our first meeting in October of 2020 during the Pandemic. He responded quickly to my request for an estimate. He communicated that the material I was requesting was on a long back order. He promptly quoted my roof and my cooper rain gutters and explained the material was scheduled to be here in March of 2021. I had 3 other estimates done before I contacted Cen Cal and signed my contract. March arrived; job was scheduled. When Cen Cal arrived, I had installed over a 1000 sq' of stonework that included my driveway. They took extra care of my hardscape and did an excellent job. We had epic rains in the fall of 2021 and I encountered 2 issue. One in the gutters, and one in the "cricket" around my fire place. Cen Cal responded in a reasonable time frame and corrected both issue with great service. I just put another house in escrow on Friday the 18th and will be asking Rusty to come out for an estimate this week. Obviously I am a satisfied customer!!! Terrible terrible communication and customer service. Do not expect to get your problem taken care of in a timely manner. We contacted Cen Cal to fix our Spanish tile roof back in October of 2015 and to have the area around our chimneys repaired where some flashing was originally improperly installed. After coming to provide a bid and estimate we decided to go with CenCal because they said they could get to it by December, faster than the other bids we received and in time to beat the major rain. After silence from them all through December we finally called back in mid JANUARY to find out if we were even on the schedule. We were given the run-a-round saying that they were behind schedule and now there was rain forecast so they wouldn't be able to do anything until after the rain. After not hearing again for another month we called back in mid February and asked to cancel our contract. They immediately got someone to come out the next day to come and begin the work of removing the tiles and replacing the rotten face board. Great, except that after removing everything and only laying tar paper the two man crew left and said someone would be back later that day or the next day to finish cleanup and reattatch tile and do gutters. Well, the pile of trash was in our driveway till the next afternoon and no one showed up to finish re attaching tile and putting on gutters or to redo the flashing we needed them to do in the first place!!! That work was done 2 weeks ago and they still haven't returned to finish the work. It's already rained 2 inches since then and I'm not sure how no flashing in the chimney is protecting the new work they just did!? We have called back and they have said they would get someone to come out and they never have. This is all barring the fact that they completely ignored the second chimney on our roof that was part of the original bid and claim that it wasn't in the scope of work of the original bid. This has been an extremely frustrating project to go through with them. I would never recommend their services to anyone. We are also tied into their contract now so we cannot hire a different company to come and finish what they started. This is a poorly managed and run company. read more

CenCal Roofing is redoing the roofs at my apartment complex in San Luis Obispo and I would like to start off by saying I have never been treated with more disrespect in my life! A day before they arrived a note was on the door just saying roofers would be on the roof, the next morning I woke up at 7 AM to a worker (wearing casual clothes like an average person so you can imagine my freak out/ fear as a young college student home alone) when he was climbing over my back patio fence from the creek without ever knocking or letting me know he would be entering my private area in anyway. I contacted the company manger to inform him that he needs to ask/let us know they will be entering our private patios, yet he hung up on me before I could even finish ( EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL) The next morning they came back so I let them in the right way (through the DOOR) and I could hear them saying rude inappropriate comments about me, then opening up my patio fridge! Just to see what I had in it!!! They then took down my string lights, of course breaking multiple of the bulbs, that took me an hour to put up and renting a ladder to do so, I asked that they could hang them back up before they leave and they straight up said NO that's your problem!! Lastly they left so many nails laying around that not only has my friends tire gone flat but my dog had to go to the vet because he stepped on one of their nails!!!! These guys are the WORST! I contacted them regarding a roof leak on my rental property and spoke with an extremely rude man who was less than helpful. I explained that I had a leak on a small flat roof and would like to have someone look at it, make a suggestion and possibly repair, which might entail an entire new roof. He gruffly said "We don't give estimates...we charge $95.00/hr." He then gave the phone to a much more pleasant and professional woman who told me someone named Rusty would be up in a week or so to take a look at it. Yesterday, my tenant at that property told me he found some guy from CenCal walking around the house (without knocking at the door or introducing himself) and just said "This roof looks like s_ _ t" and then left. He never even took the time to actually get up on the roof or to contact me, the owner. I would not give this company one penny of my money! Peter F read more

Employees left trash and materials all over the driveway/walkway on most days they finished the job. After bringing some valid concerns to the company the crew became hostile, cat calling and trying to intimidate me by being confrontational and yelling comments from the roof across the way. This company is under contract by the Home Owners Association that manages our neighborhood, we are actively working to get this contract removed. If you hire someone to do a job and bring up a concern, you should not fear that the crew will become hostile and come after you. read more

Called them to repair a roof for us in October 2018. Called them several times after that and finally got a call today "March 2019" about giving us a bid. I did not even ask for a bid I wanted the roof fixed. Found a different company to go with. I will never use them again and I will let anyone know that they should try anyone else. read more

Cencal installed rain gutters for us in May of 2015 and were promptly paid for that work. During a big rainstorm that we had on July 18th, we discovered that the gutters were installed wrong in such a way that instead of the water draining out of the downspouts, it actually poured over the end of the gutters on the opposite end, ruining several hundred dollars worth of landscaping. We made our first call to them describing the problem shortly after that and after 3 or 4 calls they finally agreed to send someone out to look at the problem. The first employee saw the problem but had no idea how to fix it so he had to bring another employee back with him. The second man new how to fix it and said he would get it on the schedule. After months went by and many phone calls where they kept promising to make the repairs, the rainy season began and we had another company make the repairs and paid them to fix Cencal's poor work. It took them less than an hour. Their service after the sale is terrible and obviously they are not familiar with how to properly install rain gutters. We are going to need a roof next year and definitely will not be using Cencal. read more

I have hired Cencal Roofing several times over the past few years. They have completed around $50,000 of work for our property. Every time I have hired them for work they have shown up on time. Also on the first day they are to start work one of the owners will be there and introduce me to person who is to be in charge of the crew working that day. All the work they have done was always completed on time and on budget. On one job they broke a light by accident in which they replaced promptly. Any issues I have ever had with their work, all it takes is a phone call and they are there as soon as possible to remedy the problem. Our neighbors (who we like very much) hired CENCAL to re-roof their house. The first day, one of the CENCAL trucks was blocking half of our driveway. We asked the crew three times and called the office once to get the truck moved. It was not moved. Additionally, when the roof removal started, I noticed significant amounts of tar chips had fallen on our sidewalk between the houses. I asked the crew chief is he would clean this up at the end of the day; he said he would. After the crew left for the day, I noticed nothing had been cleaned up. I called the office, and was told someone would be out immediately to clean it up. This person came without a broom or dustpan so he borrowed our neighbor's leaf blower, He blew much of the tar debris into our bark, making even more work for me. I called the office again, and was told the manager had gone home and he would call me the next day. I am still waiting. The next day, the same crew came out and walked across our yard. CENCAL is a local company, but does not treat locals well. read more

Stay away!!!! As unprofessional as you can get. Called to get an appt. No advance warning, man calls gives 10 minute advance notice to come over to inspect the area that needed repair. I specifically asked them to give me enough notice, 24 hour minimum, to be available. Tried to get him to come back, nothing doing. Snippy woman put on manager who would not listen to me, cutting me off continually, yelled at me and said to do business with somebody else! Do NOT use this company. I couldn't be happier with CenCal's work. I needed to replace not just the roofs on my split level 1970s home, but the decks that were on top of them. CenCal's crew was more than up to the task and have completely transformed my house. Rusty checked in regularly to make sure the job was always done right and his input was always spot on when it came to the most challenging design issues. We threw more than few curveballs his team's way, including having them install set of double doors on a less than level surface and to figure out how to mount a metal awning above it. We've since had them back to diagnose and help alleviate a drainage issue and to make my mess of a laundry room functional. Once again the work was top notch. read more

CenCal Roofing, had a reasonable bid and were recommended by a contractor to replace my leaking roof. Had to wait a very long time because of our rainy weather, they did not offer to tarp roof, we did so ourselves. Finally came out, removed old roof, chipping my existing skylights in the process (could have covered them). Had to come into house to use bathroom, leaving a mess on carpet. They did not return to clean up as stated on contract. I am still picking up tacks and old asphalt from my flower beds. There reasonable bid turned out to be exceeding high. They did not come back to check anything and demanded payment. I certainly would not recommend them ever! read more

When I went to Cencal for a new roof they gave me color samples of Owns Corning shingles. They told me they were the best shingles. They also said they would not schedule the start of the job until the shingles were in their warehouse.A week to 10 days later they called and said they could schedule the job now. After they removed my old roof and there was just bare plywood on the house they said they couldn't get Owens Corning and would have to use a shingles from a company that I had never heard of before.I had no choice but to go with poorer grade shingle.(Late I found out the shingles placed on my roof cost Cencal about $400-$500 less than the Owens Corning shingles- no they didn't pass on the difference to me.) They said they would paint all the new mental flashing they would add. I had the paint set out for them to use. They didn't paint anything. I'm having to hire someone to paint the flashing and make repairs to damage Cencal did to the stucco when they removed the old roof(almost $500).They said they would clean up when the job was done. So far I have picked up over 200 roofing nails from my sidewalk,driveway,yard and my neighbor's yard.I just glad no one walked or drove over these nails.I also had to pick up pieces of old roofing and pieces of sharp metal flashing from my yard and the neighbor's yard. They didn't have any padding on their ladders so the paint on my rain gutters is scratched off every place where they placed their ladders.They send me a bill, telling me it was" due and payable now", before they had finished the new roof. When the job was finished I paid them in full. A few weeks later I received a notice from the company that supplied the shingles to Cencal. They said Cencal had not paid them and they could put a Lien on my house if they were not paid.I called the supplier every month for two months and they still had not been paid by Cencal. After I filled a complaint with the State Contractor's Board Cencal finally paid the supplier and they send me a release. I attempted to have Cencal's workers finish the job correctly but my Spanish isn't very good.It would have been nice if Cencal had sent someone,who speaks English, over to my house to check if the job had been done to my satisfaction. read more

We remodeled our house with a Spanish tile roof. Cen Cal took of the old roof saved it and put it back on perfectly and found matching roofing for the addition. Can't tell the difference between new and old. It's perfect. We are going to have them reroof our rental house. Not going to get other bids knowing there work is going to be great. Where to begin. Our HOA hired these clowns 5 weeks ago. They have two modes of operation: they are either absent for weeks at a time, leaving all of their tools and supplies strewn everywhere, or they are there at 7:00 am shouting as loud as they can, and leaving hazardous trash everywhere. I grew up around construction sites, and can tolerate noise, and trash during the work day. However, when my two-year-old is playing outside in the evening after the crew has left, I'd rather not be picking up upturned nails that have been left on our private porch, steps, sidewalk, and driveway. They leave boards leaning up against the side of the house where they could fall over and hurt someone. They block the driveway with their trucks. They park in our personal parking spots. They pile their supplies in front of our mailboxes. And trash is spread absolutely everywhere. It's like the Hansel and Gretel, but instead of breadcrumbs leading to a candy house, it's nails, tar paper, and shards of metal leading to the community dumpster. And as if the liability to my family and our neighbors isn't enough, they are a liability to their own company. Last week, they left a gas-powered air compressor on the sidewalk over the weekend, not chained up to anything. On an unrelated note, if anyone wants free roofing tools, you should swing by; there's a good chance there are some laying around, discarded. I've contacted the HOA 3 times, and I know that the HOA has in turn contacted this company, but nothing has changed. Based on the reviews of customer service, I'm not surprised. If you are thinking about having CenCal Roofing do your job, I hope you love trash, not being able to park anywhere, and weeks upon weeks of inconsistent and unprofessional behavior. read more
