Letting her feel comfortable in class and learning at the same time. She was able to blossom and grow, participating in the musicals and and other activities allowing her to express herself in a safe environment. I appreciate the staff and administrators for the work they put in with my daughter. It was a blessing to me and my family.

We were greatly blessed moving into a neighborhood close to this school and by the grace of God our children got in at the right time. Before each school year starts, each teacher reaches out to the parents and makes house calls - a visit to the child's home to meet the parents in person, give them the curriculum, expectations, and guidelines the children are supposed to have so the parents and children know the teacher's expectation throughout the school year. The teachers also give parents their contact info so the parents can easily connect with the teacher at anytime. I mean, what school can you say, that teachers come to your house and makes a personal visit to connect with the family directly? I do not know of any except this school. In addition, this school only has one class per grade - one class of kinder, one class of first grade, etc. The ratio of teacher to children is around 20 to 1. They keep the size of class small so they can keep the class intimate. They also have a therapist on staff for students' mental and emotional health! They keep the students actively reading all year long by having "battle of the books" per grade and have awesome incentives. Julie, the principal, is a "go-getter" and treats all of her students like they are her own. You can feel the love of JHCS staff for each student, and each student is known by their name. It truly is a second family. Besides all of the great things I already mentioned, JHCS is ranked #1 Best Public Elementary Schools in the area and has a grade of "A" in overall niche grade!

I came to this school when it first opened and stayed all the way through 6th grade. It was…read moreamazing, they allow you to learn in a way that is at your own pace. I was so bored when I attended a public elementary school but this school helped me to enjoy school. When I finished sixth grade I had finished learning all of 8th grade math content and was at a 7th grade reading level. The school is also very hands on, we did engineering projects, made things, and learned about real world situations. This helped me to not get burnt out and bored at school. We also learned about things that you typically don't learn about in elementary school, for instance in fourth grade a tool a philosophy class, and I learned about Plato's cave and other concepts. This school set me up for success. I now just finished my junior year of high school and have a unweighted GPA of 4.0 while taking AP, CE, and honors classes.

I visited 20 schools today and every single one welcomed me warmly, accepted the flyer, and gave me the principal's contact info so I could follow up properly. Centennial was the only exception. The office staff was unwelcoming, and when I asked for the principal's email -- a completely reasonable request -- they declined to give it to me. I'm not here to be dramatic, but I do think it's worth noting: the way you treat people who come through your door matters. I wasn't asking for anything unreasonable. A little kindness and basic courtesy goes a long way. The golden rule exists for a reason. I hope this is just an off day and not a reflection of the culture at this school -- because every kid deserves to be surrounded by adults who model how to treat people well.
