My youngest started school, and a week later my 4th grader asked if she could go to AHSJ as well. A little background on D'Layne (4th grade when she started AHSJ), she had a heart condition. She had always gone to public school, but was falling in the cracks and falling behind. D'layne excelled at AHSJ in ways that I cannot explain. She loved math, science and history, but always struggled in spelling and reading. After her 4th grade year, she was excelling in ways that made me proud to watch her grow. It was the same with 5th grade, but towards the end of 5th grade her health started to change. The summer between her 5th and 6th grade years, D'layne had a major stroke. She spent the summer relearning to read, write, and to find her words. We also knew at that time that her heart was failing her, and she would have to be placed on the transplant list immediately. She spent the summer back and forth getting testing done and was placed on the transplant list on August 27th, 2018. 6 days after starting her 6th grade year... The day we got the call that D'Layne was getting her new heart, she was at school. That was the best place for her to be, the administration gave her hugs and kisses, the school stopped and prayed for my daughter. This is a family, not just a school. 6 days after her transplant, I had to make a call to her school, that she was not going to make it. Where her heart was perfect, her body had been shutting down. Our family, AHSJ, cried with us, cherished us, and supported us. It has not stopped. My angel was granted her Angel wings on September 26, 2018. On May 2, 2019 (7 months later) they performed the most amazing tribute to her at their dance performance and included my sweet 7 year old to honor her sister. So, all day Kindergarten brought us to AHSJ, but the family bond of every student, teacher, administrator is the reason we stay!!

I went to this school for all 3 years and let me tell you my experience. With teachers, you win…read moresome and you lose some. Some of them will be the best teacher you will ever have in your life, and some require you to be in class, tell you to open canvas, and be silent the whole class, and there's ranges of teachers in between. Some are extremely against the pledge of allegiance while others aren't and encourage students to find what it means to them personally. I have found most of the staff to be amazing (excluding teachers from this assessment). They were always super helpful with getting me to who I need. The therapists there are also amazing. The biggest issue I have is those few rough teachers like Ms. Richmond, Mr. Wall, and basically the entire language arts department, excluding the creative writing teacher, she was amazing. But in reality, this school experience is what one makes it, so if you make it a good year then darn it it'll be a good year. Another thing is if you aren't part of any fun groups or clubs, you will hate your entire high school life. I encourage you to participate when you can and you won't regret it!

First of all, this school has horrible bullying management, because not only are the students bully's, the teachers are too. I got bullied, death threats, beat up more than I can count on, they said to resolve with a peace table. I have no problem with working with words and talking it out together it's a great strategy, but they need to lay down more serious boundaries. The teachers are also horrible my upper elementary teacher (not naming names if you know you know) would constantly talk down to us like we were babies, brag, talk about how she wished we were like her previous students, eves-drop, complain and yell so much yelling, me and many other students cried and begged to never go back because the school did nothing but send a email to the teacher to cause more yelling. The food is also revolting, I have gotten sick from it many times because they offer no dairy free options and I can't take my pill. I went here for three years--THREE--and my parents and I can confidently say this place is a masterclass in pretending to be a school while failing students at every possible level. When talking to her over the phone she won't answer any questions, but is quick to accuse every kid of terrible things. When asked directly what the kid(s) are guilty of, she has no answer. I believe that sending any child here is just a waste of the kids' & parents' time. I wish they would just take the time to hire some quality (and qualified) people that actually care about children.
