A Place to Play on Elliott Street…read more Elliott Street Playground is another fun Morristown neighborhood playground tucked away at the end of a quiet street. It offers 2 play structures for 2-5 year olds and 5-12 year olds respectively, 2 toddler swings, 2 standard swings, 1 covered picnic area with a picnic table, 1 full basketball court, 1 tennis court, a small green space, and access to Patriots Path near Speedwell Lake. No drinking fountains or restrooms are located here so play your day accordingly. This playground is a great feature in a well manicured neighborhood. The playground is well laid out which allows for keeping track of little ones from any angle. This includes the covered picnic area. Both play structures are easily accessible by parents who need to assist little ones just learning how to play here. The 5-12 year olds play structure includes monkey bars that are suitable for kids and adults to use for some play/exercise outside. It also features a double wide slide to allow for sliding down with your little ones on your lap. The 2-5 year olds play structure has 45° angled climbing wall and crawling tube to keep things fun and simple. The courts are full sized and fully functional. There is a green space next to the courts that is just large enough to lightly toss a ball or frisbee around. Just past the courts and green space you will find an entrance to Patriots Path. This entrance leads to Speedwell Lake which offers nature views and trout fishing. The T-intersection near Speedwell lake indicates you have arrived at Patriots Path which is designated for bicycle and foot traffic. At this T-intersection you can take a right towards Speedwell Park or a left towards the Lake Road crossing. Being a neighborhood playground it isn't typically full of children through the day. But it is a nice little spot to spend some time playing outside whenever you are in the area. Our little one loves to walk to Elliott Street playground from Speedwell Park via Patriots Path to get in a walk, some nature, and some extra playground time.

This playground has a range of activities for the kiddos: - slides (varying in size/style) - swings - a ship that rocks back and forth - merry-go-round with space for a wheelchair - "rollercoaster" - monkey bars/structure for climbing - tunnels - musical instruments & sensory activities Plus there's a picnic area with tables and benches throughout. The area is neighborhood based and very friendly -- we've seen doggies going for walks, walking groups, and music in the park classes. Parking is very limited -- I think there may only be 8-10 spots, but plenty of street parking and a speedbump so you can feel comfortable walking w/ your little ones.

This is a clean playground, i.e. there are no weeds or mushrooms growing in the rubber mulch in and around the playing area. It's around 7pm on a Sunday night and there's no one here. Second visit - more time to explore and continually found new and interesting reasons to enjoy Essex County's seventh-largest park (I totally stole that tidbit from Wikipedia). Third visit - okay, okay - I'm officially smitten! A (small-ish) pond complete with locals fishing? Tennis and pickleball courts? Horseshoe pits? Bocce court? Paved trails (both in the main/open portion of the park as well as tucked-away under dense forest)? Baseball field (as a bonus - a group of kids always practicing cricket off to the side)? A tiny little spot consisting of parallel bars and (uneven) pull-up bars - for aspiring gymnasts or American Ninja contestants? An aqueduct (complete with a handful of little bridges to cross over) running throughout the entire park? A damn fine playground (with interesting and in-good-shape equipment) for kids (from 2 to 12 years old)? Plenty of tables (old-school picnic style as well as more modern/sleek)? Those clunky-but-sturdy BBQ grills that are drilled into the ground for you to use but can't take home with you? Rock cairns to find and admire while walking through along the tree-covered trail? A few strategically-placed water fountains to rehydrate and cool down? Plenty of Porta-Potties and trash receptacles (including freebie baggies so you can scoop up your pet's droppings)? A random deer (or doe) sighting in or near the park every single time I've visited? Yes! A resounding "yes!" to all of it.

Oh heyy, there's a new playground in town…read more It's not the biggest but it's well done and tucked away from the road so as you walk the pathway it feels like you're on an adventure. The theme of this new park is giving wildlife/tree house vibes. They've got some owls perched in a few locations and the kiddos can press a few buttons and hear what a wolf or raccoon sound like. Sign says kids 5+ and I agree.. with the exception of a toddler swing this playground isn't for the little littles. Bonus -- this playground is located right next to a bunch of fields (town website says soccer & softball) which would be good for running and getting that extra energy out.. and also the Preakness Brook, which is lovely on a fall day and fun for exploring. For parking you'll want to find a [street] spot at either end of the park but the playground is located farther down on Oakley Way (path is located about halfway between Graham and Ashwood).

This is definitely one of my favorite parks. It has a dog park and so many places to sit, walk,…read morejog and basically enjoy. It's quiet and not overcrowded. My husband and I had a picnic there this weekend and we spent it well. Found a nice shaded area right alone the stream and laid down a blanket and set up our two chairs and watched a documentary. while sharing a meal, snacks and drinks. It was definitely a well spent afternoon.

This Small Park is a Place to Go…read more I've been passing this quiet little park for about a year while going back and forth from Morris Plains and East Hanover. I always told myself that I should go check it out. Today the weather was nice, my Slurpee was cold, and my son was looking for a new place to play. The stars have aligned and this park has now been visited by yours truly. The Township of Hanover Central Park is located at the corner of Eden Lane and South Jefferson Road. East of the intersection off of Eden Lane is where you will find the entrance to the private parking lot. In this park you will find a pavilion with the very rare, open, and functioning Men's and Women's restrooms. It doesn't happen a lot in New Jersey so you gotta take notice when it does. The bathrooms are of the aluminum fixture variety so no worries of catching bathroom envy here. What you will catch is some relief, when you need it, while you are at this park. On the opposite end of the pavilion you will find a drinking fountain and 2 picnic tables under the roof line to keep you shaded from the sun and dry from precipitation. The pavilion is also the hub of the park. To the east you will find the grass soccer field that is to be used by reservation only. South you will find a sand volleyball court and the entrance to the Tot Lot. The volleyball court looked especially nice surrounded by a sea of green grass. The Tot Lot is for 2-5 year olds and contains a sand box area with an excavator feature, 2 toddler swings, 2 wooden benches, and a small play structure with a slide. The little excavator kept our Pre-K son enthralled for the majority of our visit. To the South West you will see the large wooden gazebo that has 2 additional picnic tables next to it. The gazebo and surrounding trees provide a good amount of shade for the area. To the West you will see a recessed area in the warmer months that is filled with ice in the colder months to be used as a small ice hockey rink. Township of Hanover Central Park is small and in an awkward place, but it really does have a relaxing vibe to it. There are a few mature shade trees that are strategically placed through the park to offer some relief from the sun throughout the day. Due to the size and location of this park I would normally rank it as a 3 star destination. This park gets the 4th star because it has dedicated bathrooms on site which is rare in this area.
