Set up as it is in the middle of town, you still have access to other local businesses, bars, restaurants, and the best bookstore ever, and there is a common area as well with lots of seating and live music. It's easy to spend the better part of the day here between the art, the entertainment, and the food and drink options, like The Shack, Freddy Valentine's, and the Spring Green General Store. It was super impressed. It literally kept going on and on and on. so many fun interesting things. We stopped and got a hotdog at the cafeteria, which was nice because we were getting a little hungry and thirsty on this long walk. I would recommend bringing dollar bills so you can buy coins and put them into the different coin operated machines that they have. They have a lot of those around the entire facility and it's one of the only interactive options. Obviously everything looked really cool. I think that the only thing that would make it better would be to have a more interactive aspect to some of the parts, but I'm not sure how they would do that and I don't think they're gonna change anything. It's still well worth a visit.

Lots of lights and lots sounds, not to mention the number of things to look at. Plan for walking up and down hills and walkways/stairs. Some areas are too narrow for mobility aids and might be a tight fit if you are plus sized, like I am. That said, it was worth every step to see it all. The automated music machines, infinity room, and the carousels were my favorite parts. I'm sure there's plenty I didn't notice, so I would return to take in more of it. Be prepared for irregular temperatures throughout the experience, as you move between indoors and outdoors and gated locations versus not. There are many restrooms along the way, as well as a cafe halfway through where you can rest and recharge. We didn't stop there, but it smelled great as we walked through. Get your tokens at the front desk to save a little money. You'll need them for the automated music machines. I bought 15, but I could have used 5-10 more. Luckily, you still get to watch and listen when others use their tokens.

They attract local musicians travelling between gigs in larger cities. The barn is an old pig barn with magical acoustics, great sound and not a bad seat in the house. The audience is quiet and attentive. They come to hear the music. We saw a band called Cribshitter. Man, were they fun. There's a nice selection of local beers and a food truck. What more could you ask for?

They have actors who could easily be performing in New York or Chicago, but they chose to come back to rural Wisconsin every year for a reason. Top notch people who run this theatre, along with talented people in all aspects of the productions here make it an absolute joy to be sitting in the audience. Pack a picnic to enjoy in the woods before you head up to the beautiful, scenic theatre, where you are guaranteed to love what you see! The concession workers are amazing too-you can really tell that everyone who works at APT takes pride in what they do to keep people happy and coming back again and again!

Well, it helps if everything is top notch. While I'd been to the nearby House on the Rock as a kid, it took many years for Shakespeare to embed himself so deep into my interests that I'd drive ~3 hours into the wilds of Southern Wisconsin just to see a play. In case my preamble didn't show my hand, it was all worth it. That said, there were thunderstorm and tornado warnings as I made my trip. Calling the office informed me that they aren't the type to cancel shows. Wild weather did delay the start (and derailed many a picnic dinner), but the show was held, the complimentary bug spray was used, the seats were wiped down (I brought towels to supplement the paper towels they handed out), and an incredible evening under the bats was had. I saw their Midsummer. It was a revelation. I can't wait to go back next summer for As You Like It (I imagine I'll love it).

When I travel, I tire of the same old Made in China souvenirs, and keep a watchful eye open for locally made handicrafts and art - be that food, jewelry, paintings, you name it. So I pulled over and wandered into Viva Gallery Artists Cooperative and could not have been happier. The art on display here is a true reflection of place; gorgeous paintings of the countryside, people and animals; unique jewelry, beautiful mirrors handcrafted out of wood from local trees,scarves, and stunning photographs of the Amish countryside and farms are just a few of the items on display. They do a great job as well of having items on all ends of the price spectrum, including a great collection of greeting cards with the same art that is represented in larger scale. I love that they are a Co-Op as well! Stop in to browse the art, choose a memento to take home, and leave your money behind to support the artists and this quaint little town.

This is the cutest little tea shop. I had a few minutes to kill in Spring Green, and I decided to…read morestop in to Bird of Paradise. There were several parking spots available right out front. As soon as I walked in, I was overwhelmed (in a good way) by the variety of art displayed all over the store. I really liked the skateboards painted by a local artist, and the person working the tea counter was happy to talk to me about the artists and the upcoming art fair in town. I took some time to peruse the tea accouterments available in the store, including mugs and infusers, ready-packaged loose tea, and more. This is a great place to shop for a tea lover in your life! Then I meandered over to the walls of tea. There are many varieties available and again the employee was very happy to talk through any questions. There were four teas at the counter that were available to sample. I sometimes appreciate having more limited options instead of having too big of a selection to be indecisive about, so I tried a couple samples and chose from there. I got the Precious Eyebrows tea (that's a translation of the original name!), and it was a really good classic green tea. The treats behind the counter, like the chocolate chunk cookies and different types of pie, were very tempting. I didn't get any food this time, but I do hope to return! The store is also linked to an art and jewelry gallery that I was able to check out while my tea was steeping. There is also both indoor and outdoor seating and a couple of other shops right nearby to check out. Great place to check out.

The Ho-Chunk Nation is bringing back bison to the lower Wisconsin riverway. The farm is located on…read morethe river, just outside of Muscoda, and they practice organic agriculture, and are also restoring native grass and the prairie. The bison meat is being used for the tribe's elderly in an effort to reduce diabetes (the meat is lower in fat and richer in iron than beef). Eventually, they would like to be able to sell the meat. Another benefit of the bison ranch is protection of the effigy mounds that are on this riverfront property, as well as the native wildlife. Local tours are given--call ahead to arrange one. I highly recommend a tour--this is a beautiful area in Wisconsin. I am biased though as this is where I grew up!
