Well, it helps if everything is top notch. While I'd been to the nearby House on the Rock as a kid, it took many years for Shakespeare to embed himself so deep into my interests that I'd drive ~3 hours into the wilds of Southern Wisconsin just to see a play. In case my preamble didn't show my hand, it was all worth it. That said, there were thunderstorm and tornado warnings as I made my trip. Calling the office informed me that they aren't the type to cancel shows. Wild weather did delay the start (and derailed many a picnic dinner), but the show was held, the complimentary bug spray was used, the seats were wiped down (I brought towels to supplement the paper towels they handed out), and an incredible evening under the bats was had. I saw their Midsummer. It was a revelation. I can't wait to go back next summer for As You Like It (I imagine I'll love it).

Both had exceptional casts, and I really like the fact that they're including a range of types of works in their season rather than just standard summer theater fare. The big theater is outside, and so weather can impact performances. We had a delay during Hamlet due to lightning and heavy rain, and then they had to cancel before the end for the same reason. We were glad that if that was going to happen it was during Hamlet as we knew that story well...and we can now say we saw a version of Hamlet where only Polonius dies - I mean Ophelia seemed OK when we last saw her... Anyway, just be ready for the weather! The grounds are beautiful too, and you can either bring your own picnic or pre-order one from them. We opted for this one night and it was delicious. I had the chicken, almond goat cheese salad which came with a cup of a bean salad, fruit salad and a brownie. All was fresh and tasty. There are a lot of picnic tables around the grounds. The walk up the hill to the theater is a little steep, and so they do have shuttles for those with mobility challenges. They also have bug spray everywhere if needed. One last note...there are always bats flying around the stage. We find them entertaining and it's interesting to see how the actors have all learned to ignore them.

The wife and I were in town and had come to see Not Quite Brothers (Iowa) which have a phenomenal mixed set list that covers more decades than their age would suggest. In fact, I'm pretty sure the majority of the crowd were older than the band. Regardless, a good time was had by all. I'm pretty sure this Saturday night show was wrapped up and had a bow put on it by 10 or 10:30pm. I would totally come see a show here again and would totally see NQB again. One interesting thing to note about NQB, is that once they hit the stage, they played non-stop until they were done, no breaks, came back for an encore set and done \m/

This time we opted for upstairs seating and went downstairs to grab a couple of drinks just prior to the show starting. It's the perfect place to spend a relaxed afternoon -- good beer, friendly staff, and a laid-back vibe that's never too crowded. The space itself is great -- high ceilings, big windows that let in tons of natural light, and a nice open layout. The outdoor patio overlooking the pond is especially beautiful when the weather's nice. It's also dog-friendly, which we love! Our pup is always happy to come along, and we even picked up one of their dog toys from the merch area -- easily her new favorite. They've got some fun merch for humans too. The beer selection is solid, with something for everyone. We've really enjoyed the Lil Louie Lager and Badger Club Amber, and they always have a few rotating taps that keep things interesting. The staff has been consistently friendly and welcoming every time we've visited. If there's one area for improvement, it's the atmosphere. The space itself is awesome, but it sometimes feels like it's missing a little energy I'd love to see more events, live music, or themed nights to bring the place to life. It has so much potential to be a real community hub. Overall, Wisconsin Brewing Company is absolutely worth checking out great beer, great staff, and a beautiful, dog-friendly spot to unwind. With just a little more happening in the space, it could easily be a five-star destination.

Inside was super cool with tables. You can see the brewing tanks outside was equally as impressive with some patio tables and chairs as well as some chairs along the water and some outdoor games. I wish we had more time cause I would've loved to have tried some food and maybe some other beverages. Definitely will come back.

Also, cigarette smoke. But I really wanted to see The Mavericks perform so I went with my best friend. I was surprised how nice it was. I had a floor GA ticket and my friend was stuck standing by the bar. I tried to upgrade her ticket to no avail. They said the floor was filled to capacity due to fire rules. However we were able to get her down there anyway. I almost laughed out loud at their definition of "full". In New Orleans or Philly, this floor would only be considered 2/3 full. There was plenty of room which made it great! The acoustics were quite good. Great sight lines. Staff friendly and drinks cheap. No one was smoking in the music venue, only in the casino itself. Free garage parking. There are a couple of restaurants and a Subway if you want a quick hoagie. I did not eat here.
