My interaction was no different. The selection will be varied as with any used bookstore, but they have quite a lot on offer for the small space they occupy and I ended up leaving with four books, myself. Plus it is a lot more guilt free ending up disliking a book you got for a buck fifty than a book you paid upwards of $16 for. It can also be a great source for those who want an inexpensive book that they won't mind using for an art project like book page origami or blackout poetry, since they have tons of mass produced paperbacks. The location they're in is also ideal since right next door there are amazing cupcakes, plus a coffee shop within the same mall. And the Santee Library is right there if you're local and have a library card. Super easy area to kill an hour or two in.

My 100th review goes to a place that's become very near and dear to my heart: The IRC…read more I could probably go on forever, but here are a few reasons why this nonprofit is amazing: 1. It always puts the people first. From meeting refugees when they first arrive, to showing them the basic how-tos, to offering programs which make integration easier, they always promote the people, rather than themselves as an organization. 2. The building is rather shabby, and is located in City Heights (a) because 90% of funds are spent on services, and only 6% is spent on administration (b) so that it's easily accessible to where most of the refugees are located 3. They offer a wide-range of volunteer opportunities (working with food and security, high school students, micro-financing, resettlement, ESL, etc.) for locals to get involved. 4. If you do volunteer with them, you: (a) get a taste of a huge mosh-pot of cultures, (b) get to hear crazy stories from people who come from East Africa, Burma, Vietnam, and all over, and (c) eventually, get to call these story-bearers friends So, yes. With no hesitation, IRC = 5 stars.

I brought in the watercolor below, for restoration, because they employ the only paper conservator…read morein the city. So grateful for their prompt responses and attention to detail! Although the waiting list for restorations is approximately a year for any new work, they were kind enough to squeeze me in to take a look and help freeze the degradation process that had already begun. Christina, their sole paper conservator, removed the acidic backing, and packaged it carefully and thoroughly in acid-free paper to store until she has time to give it her full attention. She is absolutely the best! She was professional, kind, listened to my questions, and gave very helpful, thoughtful, and practical advice for the care of the painting. I know the painting will be in good hands. I am so grateful to have such a resource for museum quality preservation of this gorgeous piece. Will follow up with an after photo once restoration is complete.
