I was really excited to donate to Sharia's Closet. I completely believe in their mission and would much rather support a local organization doing community work than a place like Goodwill that upells donations for profit. Because of this, I brought in a large donation: six large trash bags of clothes and two grocery bags of shoes and additional clothes, all in excellent, ready-to-wear condition. Unfortunately, the experience when I arrived was disheartening. When I arrived it was unclear where to leave my donations since there were multiple tents set up. They didn't acknowledge me as I was standing there waiting for them to put their phones down. They were entirely focused on taking photos for Instagram. When they finally acknowledged me, I kindly asked for assistance and they very rudely just pointed toward a shopping cart and told me to use that and continued yapping about posting on social media. Mind you, they were just standing there on their phones since I arrived. I needed help lifting the heavy bags since I am petite. It felt dismissive and disrespectful. I left feeling really bummed that this was the "community support" I was met with after going out of my way (from Chula Vista) to bring good quality items. I still have a lot more clothes to donate, but based on this experience, I'll be looking for another organization that is willing to lend a hand when asked instead of being extremely rude and dismissive. read more

I've donated here not too long ago. They really are doing something special here. The ppl are great to talk to and they make great bags for those who are in need. You need school stuff, they have it, you're looking for a job? They have clothes for that, men and women. You are treated with dignity here the only thing you have to do is just ask. read more

Came by to drop off my boyfriend's lightly worn clothes. They were higher name brand items that I did not want to donate to good will (such as Nike, Guess, etc). I hope someone will enjoy these. It was very easy to drop off. I did see they have a ton of clothes (I feel usually it's women so definitely happy to donate some men's clothing). Everyone was very nice. It was super quick, just did a drop-off and asked for a paper for tax write-off. Would recommend to donate clothing that are still new or great condition here. read more

I recently learned about SC, partly because it is a goodly drive for me. So for many years, I've been going to 'GW' to donate stuff but kept wondering about their operational mission, so I decided to give them a try. Being a donor, I did not experience the "outbound side" of this org but I am convinced they are doing good work. First time I did a drop, they were having a tent event outside with everyone very busy. I dropped the stuff off and scooted. The second time was near closing, and it was quiet. Two, maybe three people greeted me, the main lady was very courteous, explaining what they did or didn't accept. As noted, I don't know much about their outbound side, but from all appearances they are kind and conscientious people who care. I have good radar for these kinds of things and I hope this review gives their operations a boost, even if it is tiny. read more

Z.M. on 11\7 did a great job with casual shirts a lil cold for tanks tho, one hoodie due to the other hoodie+2 cocktail dresses & 1 nice shirt were alot smaller then i asked for. Wished theyd been the right size style wise spot on. No socks, didnt ask for tampons . Long green dress a hit. Black sweater jacket cute. Toiletries a big plus. Thats why 4 stars. I was looking for a place to donate my clothes that were in very, very good condition but just didn't fit anymore after I lost a lot of weight. Although I like Goodwill, I wanted somewhere to take the clothes and actually get them to people truly in need. It's awesome, they actually have preference sheets that a recipient can fill out and to give someone that choice again is just wonderful. Sharia's then puts together bags including clothing, personal care items, meaning hygiene. Sometimes shoes, socks and underwear even make it into this individualized package. I am just beyond impressed with what they are doing and it feels nice to know that the clothes aren't just being purchased and resold elsewhere. It is fine to sell your own stuff and I know you can sell things that you buy but this is not a thrift shop. It is a step in restoring someone's independence and making sure that they feel respected. I'm getting ready for another donation soon. The website lists their most needed items and it does change so check that out. Also, make sure to call for an appointment to drop off. It's so easy that way. Thank you Sharia's Closet for all of the hard work your volunteers and staff lovingly put into running this perfectly organized place. No judgement here and your donation is a genuine gift. So thankful to have found this as I had been looking for quite some time. If I could give ten stars I would. I had thousands of dollars worth of designer clothes, shoes, unopened prudish, and home goods to donate. I chose Sharias Closet after learning that unlike most domain sites, they don't sell their donations, they give them away which I love. I could have sold my own items and gotten a good amount of money for them as I only donate items in pristine condition- upon arrival I was given a tour and was able to see how clean and organized the facility was. Today, I drove to SD my hometown. Whenever I am looking to donate I look for agencies that are getting to those in need and without red tape. A friend from Neighborhood House Association Project Enable to me about Sharia's Closet and nothing but amazing comments. I knew I had to go check myself as my friend doesn't like much of anything so to hear him give a rave review I needed to see. I went into the office and met Shamine who was extremely personable and I could tell immediately she was operating under pure desire to help those in need. I have worked as a police officer for over 23 years and can pick up on things pretty quick. Shamine openly explained to me and my daughter how the program worked. They are operating under tight space but able to do mountain loads of work. Shamine and a mom and daughter volunteer duo were dealing with walk in referrals, phone calls, sorting, washing clothes, explaining the program to me all without missing a beat. I have never seen the attention to detail in helping the public. It requires a lot of work and time. I own a business and we regularly sponsor organizations who are really making an impact so I look forward to helping Sharia's Closet be able to service the community better. It costs money and time to be able to operate. My daughter asked if I could bring her to Sharia's Closet so she can volunteer. Since my child is leading the example I will have to support her and volunteer as well. A great place to make your donations. I was humbled!!! read more

Sharia's Closet is an amazing organization. I am having a difficult time explaining how much this organization helps the community. I work with many high needs families. Sharia's Closet always comes through with clothing and hygiene products. The clothing is very gently used to new. Each bag of clothing, accessories, and hygiene products I've received has been personalized for each client. Also, once a referral is made, the bags are ready within 22-48 hours. There isn't another organization in San Diego that's doing the work Sharia's Closet is doing. I can't sing their praises enough. read more

Clothes aren't thoroughly checked they'll give you clothing with holes and bleach stains. The service is shabby the people are rude they constantly make new policies and don't list them but only put them on "certain" clients like it's beyond unprofessional and they act like cus it's non profit they can be rude and unprofessional when regardless of the fact they should always be courteous to clients and understanding and that ain't happening here. If I wanted holey clothing and bleach stained clothing I'd of stayed in the rags I had but my request was for slightly used/new clothing which is what you claim to provide it's just sad to see. And then when I complained about random new rules not listed anywhere but a few representatives mouths they catch attitudes like it's unprofessional. read more

We were looking for a place to donate clothes that wouldn't turn around and sell it in a store. We stumbled on Sharia's closet during an online search and I'm so glad that we did! We dropped off the clothes and the founder took us on a tour of the facility. Everything was very organized and there were separate rooms for infants/toddlers, kids/teens, men's, and women's clothes. I try to always donate clothing intentionally. By this I mean providing clothing directly to those in need. My roommate found Sharia's Closet online and was expecting to just drop off and leave. I am so happy we went in met with the founder and staff and got a tour. This facility is filled to the brim with compassion and love, each room is dedicated to age groups and set up for those in need to get their shop on. Their current COVID operations are filled with those same things as all the staff were working diligently to curate care packages of clothing for people.
