Ivan is great. We scheduled the cut the day before, he listened to what I wanted (with my limited knowledge of haircutting) and gave helpful feedback and thoughts, and the price was very fair ($30). Don't recommend at all. Actually felt embarrassed after getting this haircut and basically wore a hat until it grew back out. Distinctly told the guy what to do and he did the exact opposite, and he was being a bit of an a-hole as well. Ivan is awesome! He is relatively new to Center, but not to cutting hair. Before he moved to Ithaca he had his own shop and it shows. He has cut my hair twice so far and both times I have walked out happy. Additionally, he is just an interesting guy who is fun to talk to. Come here a lot for my cut. The barber is awesome, super chill and does a simple cut that always seems to be the right length. Mainly hipster style of short sides and long on top. Priced at $15 it's reasonable for the commons. Does usually have a person or two in there a lot, would recommend going in the mornings. read more

Exceptionally sloppy haircut by Joe. One sideburn was half an INCH longer than the other side. No care is taken during the haircut to brush hair off of my face or neck. It's also clear that Joe has zero experience cutting Asian hair. Asian hair will stick out uncontrollably and in the most ugly way possible if it is too short. This is precisely why all modern Asian hairstyles avoid short hair near the crown of the head. I specified that I wanted half an inch off. Joe took the liberty of taking 3.5 inches off of my hair near back of the crown, bringing it exactly to that length required for the hair to stand outwards. Look, maybe it was an off day. Maybe I should have been condescendingly crystal clear about what needed to be done with my hair. But, I like to trust barbers to be able to cut hair so that looks good now and as it grows out. I didn't realize I had walked into a SuperCuts imitator. My mistake. Thanks for the valuable lesson. read more

When I was a wee man, my dear mother gave me haircuts. That persisted until sometime around junior high, where I started caring about looking good for the ladies. Unfortunately, that never happened the way I wanted to. I loathed haircuts. The status quo was always more comfortable than the unknown future, which invariably held a head of hair that was too short, too long, or strangely shaped. In vain, I searched high and low for someone who could give me what I want: a natural, refreshing haircut that I felt happy to reveal to friends and family. I finally achieved this when I met Jordan. Jordan puts you at ease, and listens to you. You'll tell him exactly what you want, whether it be in barberspeak (which I don't know) or exasperated stabs at general emotions and concepts (which I know better). Then, he makes it happen, and charges you next to nothing. Now, I look forward to getting a haircut - because I know where I can get it exactly the way I want, with zero effort on my part. No dispute that Jordan provides a great service and and a nice environment in which to cut your hair. However, twice now I have come to his shop and found it closed when it should be open. No information on the door to mention is he has popped out for a moment or if he will not be opening that day. This is frustrating. He is not delivering what is advertised. read more

Coming from hipster central in Brooklyn, I have pretty high standards on barber's. I had to manage my expectations in Ithaca until I found Jordan. Seldom do you find a young man holding true to the old school tradition of the barber shop while also keeping a contemporary edge to his craft. Joey and Jordan are great; very good haircuts, good conversation, reasonable prices (a bit more expensive than other places around but definitely a better cut). Only reason this is 4 stars instead of 5 is the one time I went in and had some other barber who didn't do a great job. If you stick to Joey or Jordan, you'll be good. read more
