I chose to volunteer at MANNA as they are an organization that serves the community by providing healthy meals, even if you have a dietary restriction. They serve meals daily at their location along with making food deliveries to those that are unable to leave their homes. So,in short they similar to having a food kitchen and meals on wheels in one organization. When I arrived, the place was very clean, the staff was very friendly and appreciative of us volunteers. It was a great few hours of volunteering and assisting a worthwhile cause. I look forward to doing it again at MANNA.

The place is bright, clean and well decorated. Fully accessible and currently decorated for all the holidays! There was a volunteer there with a therapy dog for everyone to get to know and plenty of seating with most seats having individual charging ports and outlets for all devices. I am actually sitting here charging my phone as I type this. All military with a valid DOD ID card are welcome. This place is top notch! The only thing I would change is there are no longer private restrooms, you have to use the public restrooms in the airport but Philly tries to keep them clean. Thank you for the amazing hospitality and for all the volunteers that spend their days cheering up the weary military service men and women that sacrifice so much for our Nation!! Semper Fidelis !

Of course for specialty items, you may have to drive to Valley Forge or Shelly Ridge. It's located in the Strayer University Building on 3rd floor. It's still an active meeting house for the Quaker community, which made the visit feel even more special. The building itself is simple but beautiful, which fits the Quaker philosophy. One side of the meeting house is where worship is still held today, while the other has a small museum-style exhibit about Quaker history, beliefs, and their role in Philadelphia. It isn't huge, but I learned a lot. One of my favorite little touches was the "Find the Fox" activity. It's such a cute idea and made exploring the building a little more interactive. The volunteers and staff were wonderful too. Everyone was welcoming, happy to answer questions, and genuinely excited to share the history. I also appreciated that there was never any pressure to join or convert. It felt like they simply wanted people to learn, which made for a really relaxed and inviting atmosphere. I also have to give a very important shoutout to the air conditioning. We visited on one of the hottest days of the year, and walking inside felt like instant relief. I swear the AC saved our lives. It made it so much easier to slow down, enjoy the exhibits, and spend time looking around instead of rushing back out into the heat. Overall, it's a peaceful little piece of Philadelphia history that's absolutely worth visiting, especially if you enjoy learning about the city's early roots. And if you happen to go on a scorching summer day, the AC is just an added bonus.

This place is such a beautiful gift right in the city of Philadelphia. I was able to take a little over 24 hours in this serene home to meditate, walk, read and sit with Sister Maria for an hour of spiritual direction which felt like cool water. Whatever your faith or place in this world this home and center opens its doors for quiet and discernment. Sister Maria explained that the history of the house has always been for justice and discernment so there is a rich legacy on these grounds from those who were here before. There is also a quiet beautiful cemetery nearby for long walks and quiet reflection. The room I stayed in had big windows and natural light poured in during the day. I am already planning my next silent meditation retreat. (The center also offers big beautiful rental spaces for gathering. ) Thank you for the love, Cranaleith!

The sisters and administrative manager could not have been nicer or more helpful. The atmosphere is very peaceful with a labyrinth pond, chickens and geese, and beehives/honey produced on the premises. The retreat's name in Gaelic refers to a sanctuary of trees. I highly recommend it to anyone desiring a break from worldly cares to rest and rejuvenate. The site is easily reached by commuter train from Philadelphia and the house has an interesting history as host to suffragettes like Susan B. Anthony.

Everyone was very nice and approachable! Dogs are allowed on the premises with the usual courtesies: on leash and clean up after (unlike Christ Church in Old City - no dogs!). I'll definitely be back for the last concert this summer ... and perhaps once in a while to enjoy the peace this space offers. My husband and I visited many churches in the city, mostly Episcopal but also other denominations that others had recommended. We were dismayed at how unwelcoming many were. We would attend coffee hour and stand around waiting for someone to acknowledge our existence. People just talked to their friends. Often even the priest didn't speak to us. We were delighted to discover St. Peter's. The congregation and the clergy are friendly and inclusive. Everyone is welcome. The preaching is excellent and pertinent. The music program is fantastic. The church and grounds are lovely and well maintained. It has a lot of history to it. There is something for everyone here. No matter where you are in your faith journey, you will feel welcomed at St. Peter's.
