ACV has really impressed me with their bedside manner. Our dog Falkor passed away at ACV in Nov '24…read moreand their team was so lovely and respectful. That will always be an impactful moment for me. Like Falkor, my dog Nano has been going there since we moved to the area in 2020. And I rescued another dog Helga, who is also a patient with ACV now. She's actually had to have urgent and sudden surgery in the last week and everyone at ACV has been so kind, patient, and informative. I don't feel "extra" asking all the questions I have or providing detailed information as a worried pet mom. Thanks to the ACV team for being A+ wonderful human beings first and foremost. We moved to Philadelphia almost 4 years ago (time flies) and we did go to another vet before finally settling in at 2nd Street. The fact is, the doctors and team here match what we expect from a vet for our furkids better than the other neighborhood vet. Whereas our first pup had a bit of anxiety at the previous place, they both do really well here now. I should say in the midst of Covid, we rescued a second pup and it only made sense to take her here, too. And when she was at the rescue, this was actually her vet as well. So we didn't even have to make a change and disrupt her progress since we already went here. I believe the prices are more than fair for a city-based veterinarian that offers a wealth of services. They do exotic pets, offer orthopedic services, dentals, and more. The staff is always super nice, follows up, and makes you feel cared for. It was a brutal winter and I also had a cold, and maybe assumed we were in the same boat. But she encouraged me, against my own reluctance, to get an x-ray immediately. I did, and the x-ray revealed it was a much more serious condition called congestive heart failure. She helped get him emergency doses of a medication that likely saved his life during a really stressful snowstorm week in February where it was difficult to coordinate. She also pushed me to take him to a cardiologist, which I was also reluctant to do. But I'm glad I did. He was really at death's door 5 months ago, and now he's under a treatment plan that has kept him alive with decent quality of life. I'm super grateful to the Dr. Lee, and the staff generally. I almost forgot to leave this review for the treatment that happened in February, because when you're stressed out over a pet and the pet survives the last thing you think about it giving credit on yelp. Your mind is on your pet. That's something to consider when reading reviews. I also just took him in for a vet-tech appointment yesterday and the tech also was super helpful and reassuring. So overall this place has been great.

The treatment she received at world of animals was abysmal. This practice has serious issues with communication, knowledge and accuracy. I was first told my cats cancerous tumor was benign and to just "try antibiotics", then after removing the tumor, I was inaccurately told that they removed all of it, and that she would survive many more years and no treatment was needed, and I was dismissed and almost laughed at when I would bring up concerns about how she was acting. In fact, they did not remove it all, and her cancer was extremely aggressive and she needed treatment that they didn't even tell me about, so she only lived another 6 months. My final interaction with this practice was them giving me the wrong dosage for my dying cats pain medication, which was TEN TIMES her normal dose. Luckily I noticed before giving it to her. I highly recommend going to Penn Vet or PASE for anything cancer-related, and will not be taking any pet here again.

She acted as if it was an imposition that our cats were scared about their visit. Our cats are rescues that we got at 8 months old. While they are affectionate and confident with us, they are more fearful than curious when encountering new people. You would think vets would understand this, but this vet (sorry, I didn't get her name) seemed more jumpy than the cats about administering their shots. She wouldn't even try to trim the nails on one of them. (Even I have finally figured out how to handle that kitty for that task!) I've seen some hellion cats, and believe me when I say ours aren't that bad! The front desk staff and those who answer the phones are wonderful. They are helpful and thorough, and if they say they will call you back by a certain day/time, they will, even if they don't have a final answer for you yet. The vet techs we have had there are likewise incredible, and clearly love being with the animals. I wish I could give 5 stars, but hard to overlook that one encounter.

We were taken directly into the treatment area, where I was able to stay right beside my fur baby. They checked her vital signs, made sure I knew where the restroom was, and even showed me the complimentary snacks and beverages. We didn't have to wait long before Dr. Russell came over, listened carefully as I explained why we were there, and thoroughly evaluated Stella. He quickly identified what was causing her pain and explained everything clearly. Stella received pain medication by injection, and we were sent home with additional medication to keep her comfortable. When it was time for Stella's injection, my sweet girl became a little grouchy. The team handled her with such patience and compassion, moving us into a private room so they could safely care for her away from the open treatment area. That thoughtful accommodation meant so much to me. We arrived at approximately 5:30 a.m. and were home within one to two hours. The cost was absolutely worth it to know my baby had been properly evaluated, treated, and relieved of her pain. As I was in the room crying some man Josh walked in and comforted me talking me about how it hurts to lose his own and he understands my pain... no one else saw this man...I wanted to thank him for his compassion.. everyone kept saying there is no Josh here there is no Joshua here so for the longest time my friends were telling me maybe his name was Jesus and Joshua was the English way of saying Yeshua which I really believed but then someone said one of the owners is Joshua so I was just there on a day when he was there and he was a very kind-hearted person and I could not afford to get my baby cremated I did not want to leave her in a freezer or have her community cremated with a bunch of kitty cats that I just wanted to have her with me I would actually have all of the animals that are cremated I would actually bury them in the most beautiful places so that they don't just get cremated and thrown away I would like to make beautiful flowers where they were once alive but that being said after I left I guess the guy Joshua got to see that I couldn't afford to do all the things I wanted to for my baby and I only had a little bit of money on me and they kept calling me every couple weeks asking and I said I promise as soon as I get a new job I was in between work the covid thing was happening it was horrible and I got a letter in the mail saying that I can come pick up my baby's ashes because they planted a tree in her honor and one of the forest and the forest paid for my baby to get cremated so that I could have her my heart was so happy the whole way there I cried and now I have to go back bring that kitty cat's daughter actually her niece but she fed her because her sister and her had kitten same time so they fed each other's kittens and it was the most cutest beautiful thing to see two sisters swapping babies and now 14 years later my baby is a big girl and I took her to a different vet and they did nothing but take all months rent out of me and give me some saline solution for my cat's eye not even antibiotics so I can only hope the companion will have something better I'm afraid they're going to say that we're going to have to put her down but if that's God's will I cannot watch my baby suffer and anytime I brought a cat there that I was fostering if there were sick from the street I would say can I at least have him for one week before he passes away so that I could show him what it's like to be loved in a house with humans and they would give me medicine to keep him comfortable for that week and I would spoil the cat for a week whoever it was whether it was my boy buddy or my baby girl either way they assisted me and they made sure that they helped me and they didn't take a month's rent off of me and give me nothing they literally would give me real medicine to help

I wasn't just looking for a quick appointment; I was looking for a partner in my cats' health for life. When your receptionist said you could squeeze Wicca in same-day and highly recommended Dr. Beiting based on my needs, I was beyond relieved. That relief didn't last long. Red flag #1: I walked in to find adorable cats roaming freely in the waiting room. While charming in theory, this setup is completely impractical and inconsiderate. Strange cats approaching a cat in a carrier? No thank you. My cat was visibly stressed, and most cats would be, especially sick or nervous ones, trapped in a carrier, being approached by unfamiliar animals. It's not just an emotional risk, it's a health risk, too. In what world is free-roaming animals a sound practice in a vet's office, where illnesses could easily spread? Red flag #2: Once we were in the exam room, the vet tech immediately tried to hold Wicca without any need or invitation. Let me repeat, I have a Sphynx cat, and yes, I get that people are fascinated by her. But fascination does not give you permission to violate her boundaries, especially when she's clearly growling and hissing at you. When I asked to hold her myself because she was obviously uncomfortable, the vet tech almost refused to give her back. Her response? "I'm not scared of her." Excuse me? This isn't about your fear, it's about respecting an animal who is clearly showing you she doesn't want to be touched. I had to physically take my cat back to avoid further distress. Then came the vet, Dr. Beiting, who admitted she didn't know what was going on. She speculated it might be focal seizures, but wasn't convinced. I'm not upset she didn't have an immediate answer, medicine is complicated, but here's where things really fell apart. She said we'd do bloodwork, monitor over the weekend, and touch base Tuesday. If Wicca was still having spasms, we'd try Gabapentin. Tuesday comes and... nothing. No call from the doctor. I leave a message. Eventually, I get a call back from the receptionist, who breezily tells me on my voicemail that Wicca's blood work looks fine except for the part where she has a heart condition, and I should "probably call a cardiologist." That's it. That's the call. No details. No explanation. Just a casual suggestion that my cat might have a serious heart problem. Frankly, I was left in tears. That's not just unprofessional, it's inhumane. A receptionist should never be the one to break news like that, and with such a flippant tone? I work in animal care. I would never let an unqualified person call a client with upsetting or unclear medical results. The doctor promised to speak to me personally on Tuesday. Instead, I had to call again, beg to speak with the doctor, only to be told she was "busy" and might not get back to me that day. I couldn't answer during work, and her voicemail said if I didn't call back right away, she wouldn't get back to me until tomorrow. And let's not forget, I had to ask four separate times just to get a receipt, rabies certificate, and doctor's notes. So let's tally this up: I paid nearly $400 for a "we don't know," a traumatic experience for my cat, a rabies vaccine, bloodwork, and days of stress and unanswered calls and voicemails. I had to do my own legwork just to understand what was wrong. I had to educate the doctor about the Sphynx breed. I had to be the one leading the appointment, not the other way around. So knowing his time with me was coming to a close, I left it in his hands to tell me when it was time to go. And, unfortunately, that was the day he woke up and his eyes said simply, "Enough." The staff was attentive and kind from the jump. An examination revealed the options, but it was obvious that whatever was happening was quite serious - and I was given a breakdown of potential next steps. Of course with Sid's age, putting him down was also an option, and I already knew this is what we were going with. I did not receive any pressure to run any preliminary tests, procedures, or additional costs. I was simply told what the options were, and provided with an honest opinion of what the outcomes could be. And all options sucked. BUT it was obvious that the people helping me genuinely cared, and it made the heartbreak just a tiny bit easier. I had never had to do this before and I came in with Sid alone, so the vet guided me through what we were doing, what was next, and gave me ample time in between to say goodbye. Again, no real way to make these things less painful, but there was something in the attention and care I was receiving that made me feel like I wasn't going through it alone. The staff was going through it with me. I also received a beautiful card in the mail from them afterwards, hand-signed with a personal message from each - and this small gesture brought such warmth to my heart that I felt I had to share it. I spent 3+ hours there but it didn't feel like it. I was able to be by his side the entire time, there was hydration and snacks, and I was comfortable. I feel like every nurse checked in with us at least once. Even my cat felt chill enough after a while to curl up and nap in his large cage (they were quite busy and all rooms were taken). As off Feb '25 it was $200 for just the most basic care, for what it's worth, and in our situation it was very much worth it. They sent everything to my usual vet, including recommended follow up testing. Flippin' awesome and so helpful for moving forward after a terrible Sunday!

The hospital gave me excellent instructions pre procedure, kept me updated throughout the procedure and let me know when it was over and how Willow was doing.
