Our cat required special surgery that Dr. Knutsen was able to perform. I read the reviews here and was concerned. Plus we had a 1-1/2 drive each way. However, our local veterinarian had a client who recommended Center Rutland Veterinary Hospital highly so ... From the minute I called, everyone was very friendly, nice and helpful. From appointment to post-surgery, Marilyn, Tamara and Jackie were a pleasure to meet on the phone and work with. Their office is clean and bright with lots of orchids and a palm tree in the reception area. Very pleasant. What they charge for their services are quite reasonable. My father was a veterinarian and my mother still owns the animal hospital in the area where I grew up. I worked there when I was in high school. Center Rutland is well run and spotless (even considering the daily four-legged traffic ). I highly recommend them. read more

Remove and Replace Marylin, the Secretary/Receptionist. She is Arrogant, Rude, Uncooperative, and Belligerent. In my situation, she endangered the well being of my dog by refusing to issue hprescriptions in a timely manner if at all. Dr. Ray is a PRINCE! You'd be hard pressed to find a better doctor. However, confronting the wrath of his receptionist ruins what would otherwise be a pleasant experience for you and your pet. There are 3 veterinarians within a couple of miles of my residence, but because of Dr. Ray's reputation, I choose to use his services, even though it's nearly an hour drive for me. We were visiting Vermont from Colorado with my dog Noodles when I noticed that he had an issue with his foot. We tried to get him into other vets closer to where we were staying, but they were not very interested in seeing him, which I get. All vets are busy and have full caseloads with their regular clients. Dr. Knutsen got us in right away and took great care of my beloved elderly Yorkie. He performed surgery right away and extracted a huge thorn. I never even heard a whimper from my dog and he wasn't fully sedated! I was expecting a big bill- being that we are not regular clients and it was an emergency visit. Not only was the bill very reasonable, but it was well under what I would have paid for the same office visit at home. I enjoyed the office staff- they are "call it like they see it" people which I take as a sign of honesty and integrity. And Noodles fully recovered and enjoyed the rest of his stay in Vermont! read more

STAY AWAY! The vet's wife is the secretary, she is VERY rude, refuses to help and general doenst like her job or people. why she works customer service is a mystery. unless she likes being mean to people? she refused to give my dog a simple test and stated i must travel 7 hours to get this test. after calling around its a very common test. she lied to me starting this test is not common. she even stated we have enough customers we dont need any more work. read more

Secretary is very rude. They are bad at scheduling and don't seem to like people very much. We waited outside for over a half an hour even though we arrived on time for our appointment. Finally got a call that we could come inside once we got home. We told the secretary we had already gone home and could not make our 3 dogs wait in the car that long as they are not used to it and were frightened, plus we had other responsibilities to attend to. She snapped back saying it wasn't her fault that the vet took long (this was an hour later than our appointment was booked for). DO NOT RECCOMEND. read more

We had seen Dr. Ray for years but you know that old saying you get what you paid for well its true. you pay for a cheap vet and you get crap service. Our dog vomited for a hole week strait and other than giving her antibiotics and and anti nausua med he did nothing for her. She was only a year old and was supposed to grow up with our boys, well anyways we had to bring her to Burlington emerergency vet services and had to have her put down because she had a blockage in her intestines and it was too late, it was there for over a week. I have called them 4 times to have my other animals records sent to Eastwoods and they still have not done it, so eastwood called 3 times and today Center Rutland told my vet that this was the first time they have had a request to have records sent and that I am an inactive client and I had not brought any animals in for a long time. That was a lie I was there with animals in November. If i could give no stars i would and i would never tell anyone to go there. Rays wife is so rude and talks about other clients to other clients behind their back when they go into a room. It is just very unprofessional. read more

After about 15 years and 3 animals of my business, when i tried to schedule a visit for a new puppy secretary was extremely rude, commenting she didn't have time. But, said she'd explain it if i was standing there in person. And argued back and forth with me rather than just note the 4 meds i was trying to tell her the new puppy already had. She complained how busy she was. During the same call trying to schedule a visit for my senior dog, she gave attitude that i didn't call earlier and they couldn't see my dog immediately, which i never asked her to do. She then got further attitude when i couldn't accommodate the 1st thing in the am appointments due to my work schedule and child. After almost 10 minutes of this i finally told her to cancel everything, im getting a new vet. A shame they keep losing clients due to the secretary's rudeness. The vet is calm and great with the animals. But trying to get anywhere with reception is not worth it. read more

Called to set up a new patient appointment for our puppy, ONLY because this office initially treated him before we got him. The receptionist was incredibly rude and after explaining myself was asked why I was calling! ‍ So I just hung up and called another vet further out of my way, where I was met with caring professionalism. RUDE RUDE RUDE RUDE!!!! I called this office to set up a dental cleaning for my dog as he'd gotten one there in the past....I was put on hold several times & had to give my name & my dogs name to 3 different people over the course of 20 minutes because there's one appointment book they share apparently, which is annoying but no big deal. The last person I spoke to berated me because they hadn't seen the dog in a long time even after I explained that my equine vet gave my dogs their vaccines. She then snapped at me because "they've taken a lot of time with me on the phone already (like it was my fault!) & I either wanted the appointment or not". If I owned this vet clinic I would fire this idiot immediately & mandate all receptionists take a customer relations training course as I see I'm not the only that's experienced this rude welcoming. Who wants to put the care of their animals with people who can't even make a simple appointment without offending the person on the other end? read more

i have only been going to this vet for a couple of years. every time i go there, they try and sell me something. this time, the first receptionist kept bad mouthing allivet online pharmacy saying they were foreign, she never heard of them, etc. i have a good vet visit. i am about to pay the bill and the doctor talks to me bad mouthing online pharmacies. then, his wife is there to have me pay the bill and she starts saying how she doesn't like using allivet. repeatedly, they kept going on how they were cheaper often than online pharmacies and trying to sell me something or other for the dog. finally, i say to the wife - i am paying money, i want my prescription filled where i want it. she kept talking about my tone - what about her tone? then, the other receptionist buts in . . . so, i have two women telling me what i have to do which is to not use allivet. i state i am going to another vet. will they fill the script - who knows? if not, i sue. i paid my money. i choose what pharmacy i use. read more

The vet office is a joke, rude office help. You may get lucky with being polite once or twice but trust me, you'll get it handed to you sooner or later. As far a Dr. Ray, omg he's afraid of dogs as a while. You better be ok with muzzles even if you animal has never bitten anyone. read more

I wish I could give them no stars. After bringing my go in twice in one week for fever and lethargy we decided to get a second opinion. Turns our they missed the cancer my dog had that was obvious to our new vet. They are incompetent and an embarrassment to the practice of veterinary medicine. read more

Diagnosed my senior cat with kidney disease, but did not tell us what we needed to do to help him, only we needed to buy their expensive prescription food. The vet didn't even come out to talk to us. Our cat seemed fine for a few months, then had a major crash. Vomiting and having diarrhea everywhere. Called them in a panic. It was during their regular hours but the front desk lady acted like I was being a major PITA, told me I could bring my cat in but no one could probably see him. Got him in there, a vet did see my cat for 5 minutes. Gave my cat a shot to stop the vomiting/diarrhea, but I had to remind vet that their office gave a diagnosis of kidney disease 3 mo's earlier, they addressed my cat several times as she (it's a he) and gave us useless antibiotics that when I got home and read the directions on the label were for a dog. Said our cat had an "inflamed stomach". When our cat was not much improved we took him to another vet here in Rutland (Riverside) who are outstanding. Our cat had to be hospitalized for three nights on an IV and get pumped full of fluids, he almost died. The new place taught us how to administer sub-q fluids at home and we are also adding phosphorus binders & supplements to his food, and they are happy to explain things and answer questions. I brought my perfectly healthy cat in for a rabies vaccination. She ended up getting a sarcoma at the injection site. Dr Knudsen and staff couldn't have cared less. Threw up their hands and blamed me for getting the cat vaccinated! Then told me to take cat elsewhere. If you love your cat, dont use this office. read more
