Tommy Tu is a true artist. I am very picky about my hair color, but I don't have the training to explain exactly what I want. I also like a natural look. Tommy is like a psychic, and knows exactly what my non-hair dresser self is trying to say I want. My hair was a bit fried from heated styling tools when I first went to Tommy. He did a minor Brazilian blowout on my hair to heal it. I REALLY needed it before putting bleach on my damaged ends. My hair came out so shiny and happy! Two weeks later it was able to be dyed and Tommy did an AMAZING balayage. Like competition level job. The salon is amazing with Covid regulations. I felt very safe in the salon. On top of that, I saw the clients if other stylist and they looked fantastic as well. All and all this is a fantastic salon and I couldn't recommend Center Salon enough. read more

Salons scare me because they never listen to what I want. I took a gamble on this particular spot considering there are plenty of other salons in the area. I came in on a Wednesday morning without an appointment, which is fine since walk-ins are welcomed. Bianny greeted me as if I were an old friend, and I immediately felt like I was home. She took the time to listen to what I wanted along with her ideas she had in mind. Bianny already knew what to do with my hair without me having to explain it! We started off with shampoo and conditioning. She's got the hands of an experienced masseuse. I'm telling you, when she massaged my big head, she also exorcised all the negativity I was bottling in. Next came the hair cut. Bianny had to even out my hair (back story: my fiancé was doing the cutting for two years because I couldn't really afford going to a professional at the time). It was a bit shorter than expected, but in order to have salon quality hair, you gotta do what needs to be done. After evening it out, she gave me long layers for more movement and texture, which I very much needed. Didn't want to write a review until I had multiple haircuts from this location just incase it was a hit or miss. Let me tell you Tommy is the real deal and you will NOT walk out disappointed at all! He is attentive to what you want and gives awesome suggestions base on the shape of your head. The staff is super friendly. The interior is clean and welcoming. Due to the whole Covid thing, things had to change and this salon makes sure that whomever walks in is safe and they make sure the staff is safe as well. Everyone is wearing masks, hand sanitizer once you walk in. AND after each client they sanitize everything down. If you are in the area make sure you drop by for a cut even if you dont need it! Tommy has been my hair savior for several years. He brings my hair back to life every single time and I cannot thank him enough for it! I've been the spectrum of colors and cuts, all of which I have loved and all of which have come out just as I had wanted. Center Salon is the only place I will get my hair cut! Tommy is the best and he is so good at visualizing the best cut for me and making it happen. Everytime I leave, I'm so pleased with my hair. Jackie does my eyebrows and does a great job as well, they are always perfect! Okay, so, I've been to this place twice and it's gone great both times, but there's a catch: both of the hairdressers I've gotten have quit after my first appointment. I usually have horrible luck with salons, so this felt like pulling pocket aces at first...but then it's been two letdowns on the return trip. I don't even know how you're supposed to rate that. It feels like having a great date and then the chick gets a restraining order on you! Is the work environment hostile? Am I hostile? Seems unlikely, but these are the questions one must ask... So for all reviewers who mentioned Sarah...that chick was probably in my top-10-coolest-people-I've-ever-met list. I wanted to ask if she wanted to hang out, but I figure it would have creeped her out (I mean, she has like a toddler and husband and I'm basically a clueless moron). Maybe she get's that a lot. Maybe you could offer her some extra $$ and then fire your psychiatrist / guidance counselor / half your friends. She's that good. Second time around I had Kris. Kris didn't warm up as quickly, but the appointment wound up lasting 1hr20min - and I am a dude by the way, there's just no way to make a guy's haircut take that long without adding some pauses. We got in to some straight Philosophy. Made my return appointment with her and then she headed off to greener pastures. Brighton Center, great haircut, and a personable hairdresser. What more could one want? I have been going here for over a year and it's about time I give Tommy some love. They charge a very reasonable amount for a haircut that he is passionate about, wash your hair and seem genuinely interested in your life. I recently moved to the area from out of state and was a little nervous about finding a new salon. Center Salon is only about a 10 minute walk from my apartment, so I thought I should give it a shot. I called and was able to make an appointment on the same day with Jessica. Everyone I came in contact with at the salon was very nice and welcoming. Haircut was great! This update is long overdue, I have to say that the only reason I tried this salon again is because the owner called me herself to apologize for my bad experience that I wrote about on yelp! Kudos to her for checking sites like this to make sure her customers are happy. Whenever I need to get my hair or eyebrows done, I make an appointment here with Sofie. By luck the very first time I went in I had Sofie and I love giving her my business. She is very friendly, we have a lot in common to talk about and is great with my hair. I love that she listens to what I want and makes sure that I am satisfied with what she has done before letting me out of her chair. She has even stayed late with me to make sure everything was just right. My eyebrows are the windows to my face, ya'll. So that must mean my lip is the front door? Well, mine needed a summer spruce up. Anyway, came into Center Salon for a wax after being it being recommended from a friend. After awkwardly standing at the front desk for several minutes, I was taken straight back to-- the shampoo chair? Yep, I was getting waxed in the shampoo chair. Laura, my waxer, asked how I wanted my brows done and got right to it. No convo. Just "keep your eyes shut" or "do you want cooling gel?". It was mainly a wax job. Normally, they'll go in with tweezers and fine tune but Laura went in for 2 or 3 hairs. She then explained some hairs were too short and I'd have to pluck them myself in a few days. Everything was over in about 6 minutes. $18 plus tip for brows and lip. Then, I get to my car and inspect. Lip- good, thorough. Brow- lots of hairs on top and on bottom that could have been tweezed. I actually spent 10 minutes when I got home finishing up. The hairs weren't "too short". What a bummer to pay $12 for brows an ended up doing what I didn't want to in the first place.- tweezin' in my bathroom. In the end- no horror story. My brows looked... okay. I just don't want to pay for something I end up having to finish. read more

I got a single process color (roots only) and a cut. The prices were very reasonable - cheap even with the yelp deal that was going on at the time... ... but my roots turned out lighter than the rest of my hair and kind of orangey and the stylist got dye on my light colored shirt. She told me that she's worked there for like 9 years, so she's not a newbie or anything. Also, she cut someone elses hair while my dye was processing and then failed to sweep up the other customer's hair before I got back in the chair. Really? Gross. So, if it weren't so cheap, I'd give it 1 star. However, considering my top is ruined and my hair needs to be fixed, maybe it wasn't such a deal. My advice, pick wisely what you have done there (trim maybe, guy's cut). And if they want you to sit in someone else's hair, politely decline. read more

The most incredible customer service I've ever received at a salon! I've been coming here for two years after stumbling in post hair catastrophe at a different salon. They took me in that day, stayed open late to fix my hair, and offered wine, coffee, water or tea. They were determined to make my hair healthy and my mood happy. Huge success. I go there for all touch ups and each time it's a personable, fun experience with great results. Tommy and Jackie are fantastic at what they do and I would recommend them with all my being! The people here were great, super friendly and the place was well priced. I just am completely unsatisfied with my haircut. I went as a walk in in for a side shave and a very minimal trim, and was told by the stylist that she knew what I wanted. She ended up shaving the side of my head all the way up to the roots it the most awkward way, and the rest of my hair came out extremely short as well, so I can't even hide the shave. I came here by recommendation of numerous friends i work with who love it! I called for an appointment and got one the same day! Sarah was my hairdresser. and she did and amazing job!!! I have had nothing but wonderful comments on my hair since i got it cut I have damaged my hair so badly, and it severely needed a cut, and Sarah got it looking healthy and full!! I have been going to get my hair cut and colored at Center Salon with Sarah for almost a year now and have loved it every time!! They have really reasonable and affordable prices and exceptional quality. Sarah does an amazing job recommending styles and colors that will look best and work with your hair. She helped convince me to cut my long hair into a short bob and I love it! I have never gotten so many compliments about my hair before. I'm always a little leery of going new places for an eyebrow wax. You see, my eyebrows aren't exactly substantial, but they still need a little grooming. Many an overzealous waxer has left me with skinny, almost non-existent brows. I recently needed a cheap, quick and easy....brow wax and Center Salon fit the bill. They accept walk-ins, and I seriously was only gone from my apartment for 10 minutes. 10 minutes to walk over there, sit in the chair, have my hairs ripped out, pay and go home. For $12, it doesn't get any better for a lazy person like me!! All the girls in the salon were super nice and welcoming which I find important in a salon. My only complaint is that the shampoo chairs double as waxing chairs, so you better be okay with attending to your hairier needs all out in the open. I have been going here for about 7 years, and I've had Tommy as my hair stylist for the past 7 years and won't go anywhere else! I even moved to Gardner and still came here for my hair color. I absolutely LOVE my color, we do red but vary I the shade depending on the season. I get so any compliments on my hair. I buy my hair products there as well and my color stays well for a long time. They can be pricey but they are worth it. I've also had my hair styled for certain occasions with other stylists and each time I had the same great experience. My daughter has had her hair colored a few times here as well, and they are great with kids. She loved her hair and keeps asking to go back. I also want to point out the salon takes extra precautions for preventing the spread of Covid, right when I walk in I have to sanitize my hands and my temp is checked, and nobody is aloud in without a mask. If you forget your mask they provide one for you. I also see the seats wiped down with disinfectant after each use and then a sign is placed afterwards stating it has been cleaned. The last time I went there were 2 empty salon chairs in between myself and the other client getting her hair done, which is good safe distancing. The Salon also is a big part of the community, and every Spring they participate in the charity for Boston Children's Hospital. I highly recommend Center Salon, the stylists are friendly and welcoming and I haven't had an issue in 7 years. read more

I went to this place for the first time, just because was is a few blocks from home and I found it so convenient that I wanted to try it. Before setting an appointment, I read their reviews and thought I could have a good experience there, plus my hair needed it (lol), but of course I was a little nervous at the beginning, it was a haircut but I really cared. Michelle was amazing! She cut exactly what I was hoping she would, she gave me her input and she was very understanding since she knew I was coming from having super long hair and that someone else trimmed it the day before (ending up in a mess), so she not only fixed my hair, but she gave it the shape it needed and as a result: Michelle is my new hairstylist :D Finally, after a couple of days, they gave me a follow up call, which I have to say it surprised me (in a good way), so an A+ for customer service!! read more

I never write reviews. Chalk it up to laziness or being unimpressed. Not to duplicate the other latest review, but Tommy is truly incredible. The guy knows hair; how to cut it, how to style it, and how to make you look good. I'm going through an awkward transition from short to longer (men's) hair. Tommy took the time to listen to me, discuss options and ideas with me, and give me the haircut that I wanted. I'm only on month #2 with him, but everything seems to be working perfectly. He knew exactly when to make my next appointment and he taught me some tricks on how to style it for different events. Tommy is also incredibly friendly and easy-going. Talk as much or as little as you want. The place is also clean and the staff is extremely friendly. Haircut costs me $25, but it's worth every penny more than a SuperCuts. This was one of the most unpleasant experiences I have had in my entire life. I am very upset with how my hair turned out and the process it took (7.5 hours!!!) as well. I felt misled and under informed about the number of steps and length of time necessary to achieve my desired color, cut, and style--I was not informed that I would be in the chair for 7.5 hours and was unaware my stylist would take another client at the same time. Additionally, despite how much time I spent at the salon, the end result was not even close to what I requested and attempted to communicate to my stylist multiple times. I felt unheard and uncomfortable, and I would like this situation solved as this is unacceptable. My hair is purple, not even close to pink. When I finally saw the color I mentioned this to andrea and she said it was just the light. It was not. I also sent picture ahead of time of what I wanted and what my hair looked like at the time so they would know.I have attached pictures of what I requested and what I received below. Additionally, My shirt was ruined--there is a large purple dye stain down the front of it and I will now have to throw my shirt away, as it will not come out. Again, the entire process took over 7.5 hours from when I arrived at 1:45-which I was at no point warned about beforehand. I ended up having to cancel my dinner and then later my evening plans into 10pm at night. My hair was also not finished when I left at 9:30 before andrea styled it (no flat ironing or curling). Andrea did not communicate with me at all. At many points I had to ask what was happening and she seemed confused. She clearly did not expect to have to bleach my hair even though I sent pictures of both my hair and the style I was going toward. After the bleach (after which my hair felt dry and damaged) was finally done I asked andrea if I should come back sometime during the week to finish the color, as I had already been here for 5 hours. She seemed confused as to why I would suggest that even, and did not explain any of her thought process to me. Also, my bleached hair looked and felt incredibly damaged and uneven, so I couldn't have left if I wanted to. I have had my hair done professionally many times and have never had such a bad experience. I felt like I was not consulted, then taken advantage of, and made to feel bad because of my previous baylage and the thickness of my hair--something I can't control. I feel completely disregarded and misled about the services provided to me. Not once did anyone mention I'd be here over 7 hours, and even after that the result was so far off from my request and damaged it feels like a waste of my time and money. I've had my hair done my entire life, even when it's been longer than this, and I've never sat more than four hours. If I had been informed that the process would take more than four hours, that would be one thing, but I was not. I'm extremely unhappy and do not believe it is fair. At the time of checkout (9:30pm at night on a saturday) I expressed how upset I was and how I thought it was unfair I was charged, I was informed that there was nothing that could be done because the owner had gone home. I then texted the owner the following the day asking for a refund and I was told they have a no refund policy, and I was actually very luck because they did not charge me an hourly rate ($80 an hour, which would have been $600!) and I should have been charged extra for lightening (mind you I sent a picture of my hair and told them I was naturally brunette). Also at no point was price ever discussed I just assumed it would be the cost I saw online, if I ever thought it was going to be close to $600 I wouldn't have gone at all. Finally, their COVID policies were very bad compared to other beauty salons I have been to in the past few months. There was no way everyone was social distanced 6ft at all times, and when I arrived there was no sign in for covid tracking, no one took my temperature or asked if I have been exposed, traveling, or not feeling well. Also I only saw one of the chairs wiped down between customers, there were many they were not. This was an awful experience, I felt very taken advantage of, and I put myself at risk for a terrible, unsafe, and unsatisfactory experience. read more
