The haircut was ok but I was not happy with the appointment and customer service. I called and scheduled a haircut appointment with Tina. I specifically asked for Tina because I had read great reviews for her online. When I arrived to my appointment, I was sat down and Kevin started to cut my hair instead of Tina. They said that Kevin was available now and that Tina was still busy with the prior customer. They didn't give me a choice to wait for Tina and I felt extremely pressured to just accept the haircut with Kevin. I was reluctant but hoping for the best. I've been contemplating whether I should write a review but the more I try to fix and work with the cut "Kevin" gave me, it makes me more and more upset. I hate my hair- it's extremely short and I have to wait months now until I can get it fixed. I told Kevin to cut an inch off, he literally took 3 inches off. It could be the language barrier as he's not originally from the area. I asked for a bob and got anything but that. I wasn't demanding or anything either. When I left, my hair was completely uneven and not what I wanted. His style was extremely unique as he didn't even wash my hair, just used a spray bottle to spritz when he cut. I have wavy hair. The hairdresser didn't warn me she'd use thinning shears, then decided to use them EXCESSIVELY on the top of my head. Walked out of there with about half the thickness/volume I walked in with. TLDR: good haircut at an affordable price I have gone to Tina's every time for a hair cut since I discovered it a year ago. As far as I can tell, the salon is run by two women, both of whom are very talented. I have medium length, curly/wavy hair and I'm quite particular about who cuts my hair. I have come from Tina's every time feeling impressed at the detail the stylists have. In general, you must make an appointment. However, I've never had an issue getting a haircut at least 24 hours in advance. A men's cut costs $23, which is very reasonable considering the cost of living in Boston and the recent inflation. Went in with specific pictures asking for what I want. I had hair down to my butt when I went in and asked for at most 4 inches off. I left with hair up to my shoulders, it's completely uneven in the back, and when I pointed it out and asked her to fix it she told me it was just layers. It was not just layers. Haircut (1/2): I'm not sure if Tina was the one who cut my hair. The haircut was standard-quality I guess? I was hoping that the stylist was able to retain my old hairstyle but it seemed like they just decided to cut my hair to their own taste, only accounting for my requested hair-length. Nevertheless, the end result was satisfactory and it's not like I got some horrible/irredeemable/bowl-cut hairstyle. I just wished it was more to my liking--probably caused by our language barrier. Service/wait-time/cleanliness (2/2): Despite the meh haircut, service, wait-time, and cleanliness were great. I had to reschedule several times because luck decided to screw with me on those times. They were incredibly kind and receptive to my multiple changes. When I arrived, they greeted me kindly. Given the shop and staff available, they've maintained the place clean for my standards. Price (1/1): Having said all that, for the price they charge, I am incredibly satisfied with their service and I can definitely live with a "not-exactly-what-I-want" haircut--especially if it's still a decent haircut. After reading some other reviews, I would say my review is very similar to Lin H.'s review. First, Tina is very nice. I went to her Salon because she was able to take me on a Saturday with a phone call. I went in with long shoulder-length hair and wanted it cut pretty short. My hair is gray; I do not dye it. I had a photo of an almost pixie style with curly hair. My hair is wavy/curly. However, I had not washed my hair in 2 weeks. Gross, I know, but I have physical limitations. I thought I was going in for a wash, cut, and blow (or diffuse) dry. I showed her the photo and she asked if I really wanted it that short. Yes, I did, I responded. At this point I want to mention there might have been a language barrier in communicating. Although a photo can't be any clearer of what a person wants to convey. I assumed that sitting in her chair first, talking about what I wanted, and her looking at my hair to determine if what I wanted was feasible was normal. A lot of hair stylists to that. Then they take you over to wash your hair, and bring you back to cut and style. She never washed my hair, she mostly razor cut my dry hair, and then put product into my dirty hair. My hair looked like straw laying on my head; kind of sticking out in places. It was embarrassing. It was the worst haircut I've had in my life. I'm really, really, too insecure to say I don't like something. She asked me if I liked it and I said yes. And, I gave her a good tip. That is on me, I know. Maybe it was because I am 65 years old, on the heavy side, and was wearing plain clothing. I am not a stylish person at this point in my life. Prejudices like those exist, either unconsciously or consciously. I think the prices on her website need to be increased. Her pricing for "Long Hair Cut, Shampoo, Styling" is $42+. I paid $65 plus tip for literally having my hair cut with a razor. I even feel bad for writing this review, but she, as a professional hair stylist, must've known my hair looked like crap. What I'm about to write sounds horrible, but I was disappointed when I realized: While I was waiting for my haircut, I looked through the magazines for hair-styling books that a lot of salons have which show pages and pages of different hairstyles. I know this sounds bad, but what I found were two hair-styling books for Caucasian women dating from 2011 and 2012. Wait, what?! There was a much newer hair-styling book for young Asian women (18-30). I was so looking forward to getting my hair cut after avoiding hair salons because of Covid. I cannot overstate how AMAZING, competent, and caring Tina is!!! First of all, I stupidly bleached my own dark brown hair, trying to do a full blonding at home. It came out an orange color I didn't like (check attached picture). I also had forgotten that I had done red toner on my hair a few months ago, so after I came in and told Tina I wanted to go silver platinum, Tina expertly asked if I had ever colored my hair and I said no. She continued to do one round of bleaching on me, saw the results, and told me that I had done coloring. That's when I remembered the red toner. She said we would have to do another round of bleach. Instead of charging me for multiple rounds of bleach, she kindly let me off the hook and only charged me for one round of bleaching! She also FULLY warned me of the consequences of bleaching your hair (excessive drying, some breakage, etc.) before we proceeded to bleach so that I was fully aware. Tina really cares about her clients and giving them exactly what they asked for! The salon was supposed to close at 7 pm but because of the multiple rounds of bleaching, drying, and toning, she worked on my hair for 3.5 HOURS OVERTIME. She did not charge me for any of this extra time she spent on my hair even though it was my fault I had forgotten I had previously colored my hair. She is a literal hair stylist angel sent from heaven. This was by far the BEST hair salon experience I've ever had. I felt so taken care of! Also, this is a special value adder: she speaks Mandarin, Spanish, and English! Throughout my time at the salon, we switched between English and Mandarin and made great conversation. I promise you that if you can communicate what you're looking for, Tina knows EXACTLY what to do to make it happen. I didn't think platinum silver hair was possible on my hair, but Tina made it happen. If you have Asian hair like me and don't know where to go for coloring services, go to Tina's!!! Well, all I can say is that i'm thoroughly disappointed, upset, have had multiple mental breakdowns today, all because my haircut looks completely different from what I asked. I don't even know how to style my hair because it's just not what I wanted in the first place. I asked for curtain bangs on the side, and she ended up giving me bangs that are way shorter than what I asked for, with a messed up graduating length along the sides, where I just look like an asian ghost out of a horror movie. This is my first time bleaching my hair and doing under layer. It took almost 4/5 hours for this results, but Tina was very patient with my hair and bleaching. My hair is still very soft and strong even after bleaching 2/3 times. I had a lot of compliments for this hair color, and very satisfied with the results. Couldn't be happier with the wash and cut I got here! I was a little apprehensive because I used to always go to the same hair salon back home, but I moved and had to find a new place to go. I have really long hair which can be a pain when it comes to a wash and cut, but these ladies gave me the best scalp massage of all time while washing my hair and then cut it exactly the way I asked (just enough to keep it healthy and maintaining some layers).
