They were super helpful and kind! I came in as a total "hot mess express" with the wrong shoes (open-toed) and a ton of questions about different types of firearms and concealed carry. They never made me feel judged, talked down to, or like I was being a bother. Instead, they were patient, respectful, and took the time to answer everything. I really appreciated that. As for cost, I don't have much to compare it to, but it didn't seem bad, about $20 to rent a lane and $15 to rent a caliber, which lets you try any firearm of that caliber. I've been to Centerfire a few times now and have to give them 5 stars: 1. They are the only place around me that had actual shooting classes for newcomers. Everywhere else had empty calendars or made you contact instructors and hope they replied to you. Don was a great instructor and it was pretty sweet to have a whole range reserved for your private class. 2. When I did set up my first class with a different instructor at Centerfire, there was a mix-up and they weren't around that day. However, the store owner Bill came out, apologized, and had another manager (Adam) give me an hour-long class on the fly. He taught a great 1-on-1 class. I can imagine many other shops would just tell you to kick rocks. 3. Staff and other shooters during my visits have been very friendly. 4. I was worried about buying a lot of ammo online and finding that an indoor range wouldn't allow it. They were good with my brass non-magnetic stuff (Igman). read more

I like this place. And not only for the reason that you're legally able to just walk in and fire a fully automatic machine gun, also suppressed for not that much money. The guys here are knowledgable, they have a modest collection of firearms for sale, and modest storefront of wares, and a storage facility for firearms. If you were to desire to buy a suppressor, I believe they'd let you fire it in-house while your $200 tax stamp and 6 month worth of paperwork processes through the ATF, storing it for you during that time. If all the stars align for you, then and only then can you take it home. This is a cool place, and truly, a unique thing on this planet - let alone, the United States. I think for around $100, give or take, you can fire an extremely expensive weapon that you'll probably never be able to own in your life. An mp5 costs thousands of dollars, and they have one here to fire - ready to go, suppressor ready. Perhaps you have a friend or family member that's birthday is coming up, or someone may be joining the military. This is a logical gift "bullet spa day" for them to witness absolute mastery of engineering on the upmost pinnacle point. Depending on how you look at it, this can be joyously terrifying. The definition of the word sublime comes to mind - and to do a thing that scares you is to understand it more succinctly. Try it. These guys definitely know what they're doing, they're absolute experts, and can assure if you follow their directions, it's totally safe. They appreciate the subtle bursting of guns, not so much the absolute spraying of a machine gun, like it were the movies or something. But they aren't SUPER strict. Know this though: if you dump a 30 round mag of 9mm from an mp5 and lose control, they WILL MAKE YOU pay for the target holding machine, should you happen to accidentally shoot it, which costs many thousands of dollars. So don't be dumb. They don't like dumb. You'll sign a contract stating that you pay for dumb in the event of dumb. read more

People, this place is a fantastic example of a quality business. Whether or not I return had not even occurred to me. That is to say there were zero opportunities for me to even form a questionable thought related to anything negative. I brought my own equipment so I didn't need to rent any arms from their vast selection. I had never been here and we didn't have a range time but from the time we walked in to the time we were in front of targets it was maybe 15 minutes. The range assistant was there without being overbearing in addition to being very helpful. Oh and get this, he was friendly and knew what he was talking about sans ego. Every place has speed bumps from time to time which is great because I know this group has learned from any they may have had. I didn't need to purchase ammo so I cannot comment on that but the range time was on par with everyone else. Go here, decide for yourself and above all else, take any negative comments you've heard about this place with a grain of salt. read more

I've been going to this range now, for several years. I'm greeted every time, I'm talked to by the staff even if a simple pat in the back or wave on a busy day, they are very laid back but also pay very close attention to range needs, such as new shooters or folks who are being dangerous unknowingly or not. The owners are kind, you can tell their staff is taken care of, their building is clean and welcoming, fresh cookies and coffee while you wait. I've never had one bad experience and it will be the range I continue to train at, despite having one 2.5 miles away. Go in with a good attitude and leave with a good one!! read more

I come for the range like most do. You can fire however fast you want without having anyone get mad, as long as you hit where you're aiming and not the ceiling. The shop is always clean and the employees are all awesome. You can rent guns to shoot, even full auto for a hefty price. As far as I know the range is first come first serve, so just pull up, get a lane, and get to spittin lead. I visited CSS again last Saturday and their service really blew me away. These guys provide a great experience for an indoor shooting range to just go and shred some paper. They were a bit busy but the wait wasn't long at all, plus the gent who checked us in gave us a heads up that it would be just a few a minutes. Tons of classes for men and women, as well as certifications. Kept absolutely spotless with a great kitchenette and always baked chocolate chip cookies. I decided since I like to shoot (great frustration reliever), that I'd learn everything there is to know about it. I didn't care for the Independence, MO shop (too right wing for me), and knew I'd have to go elsewhere. My goal is to keep all politics out of shooting, to enjoy it and use it for what it originally for. I found Centerfire Sports to be professional, spiffy, well informed, nonpolitical shop. I took a free class, Cleaning Your Gun. It lasted 90 minutes, and I left feeling like I was part gunsmith. Their selection of holsters, purses, and even non lethal defense items is beyond what I expected. Their gun selection: From Sigs to Ruger (They had the Sig Sauer I have my eye on) is very good. They have an indoor range, tactical range, and classes. Alot of their classes pertain to females. I loved the comfortable classroom, the employees and the class. The employees are very friendly and knowledgeable. Unfortunately it's in KS, so I'll not be buying a firearm there. It would be my first choice to buy one if it weren't in Kansas. Wednesday night is ladies night, gun rental is $5. Centerfire is about 5 minutes from the Bass Pro Shop at I-435/I-35. I totally recommend this place. read more

First visit here. What a model for all other ranges to follow. Clean heated with people that know their product. Ranges are polished concrete with electronic range distances. Brass is swept, great retail space with holsters, t-shirts, range bags, and they offer classes for the beginner, concealed carry, and advanced tactical classes. They have an observation window, drinks are on the honor system, and also have a nice couch to veg out with a nice led TV. Most ranges I have been to were cold and had the vent fans running so it made it extra cold. I dressed for that and didn't need my coat...it was so nice in there I wanted to stay longer. Overall I spent $21 for 8 targets and range time. About one hours worth...so its a win I'm my book. Next time I am back in ola the I will make sure to head here! Great job great facility! read more

I've been going to this range for at least 3 years now and I won't be coming back. I was introducing my brother to the sport of shooting and as normal I brought my A.R. pistol 6 inch barrel plus a walther ppk and many other pistols and the range attendant proceeded to tell me it was a rifle and coach me on my shooting, please get staff that know The legalities and regulations of a arp vs a ar if I was legally allowed to shoulder my A.R. pistol I definitely would have. Ranges have changed nowadays and it's honestly saddening I will just continue to go to my friends property in the country and drive the extra 55 minutes and not pay a over priced fee for when I want more 223 ammo. Realize people are here to have safe fun and not have a Karen stand over them and coach them on shooting. I am more than happy to take my money elsewhere. read more

This is my first experience going to a shooting range. My husband took me to shoot his guns. The gentleman at the register seem to recognize my husband even though he had only been there a couple of times. For some reason that impressed me for this type of business. I had to fill out a questionnaire that had questions about my mental health. You can also choose from a good selection of target pics. They have signs to guide you in their expectations of procedures which is helpful, but they should really give some verbal instructions as well. Especially for any novice shooters like myself even though I am with a returnee. They have an electronic target retrieval which can set your distance of the target sheet. I felt this place was very professional and take their responsibility seriously. read more

Great range and good people, But their hours are terrible. They close at 6 on Saturdays - Frontier j7stice is open till 8. CenterFire is closed completely on sundays, while Frontier Justice is open on Sundays. I'm honestly going to have to switch my membership to Frontier Justice just so I can actually get there on time on Saturdays when I like to go to the range, and better yet, I can go on Sundays too. This is really frustrating as I actually really really like this Centerfire and have been a member for over 5 years. Just over 4 years ago they were open til 7 on Saturdays and 9pm on week days. That was acceptable., But I'm just fed up with it now after these last few years. I keep missing my chance to go the range on Saturdays because, like most people, I have things to do during the daytime on Saturdays - and is bizarre that they CLOSE EARLIER ON THE WEEKEND?! Frontier Justice in KC didn't exist 6 years ago, so I am going to have to switch to a membership with their range. read more

My first experience here was awesome. My husband and I went on couples night and the deal is BOGO. They rent guns by the caliber, which means you can rent any caliber gun and exchange the gun during your session at your leisure for $15. The lane was touchscreen which was really cool. Wow! What a contrast to other places! Clean, welcoming, friendly, bright.... Loved the nice classroom, great teacher, comfy desks and chairs. Very informative. SUPER clean, super nice employees, clean and well lit range. Easily accessible restrooms which are clean and nice. "Lounge" area if you are waiting on someone who is on the range, or any other reason. They have great concealed-carry purses, and at good prices. You can rent guns there, and on Wednesdays, they have ladies night with no range fees. The only thing that would make this place better? If it was closer to my house, but it's easy to get to from I-35 and 135th/Santa Fe. Go west on 135th/Santa Fe to Ridgeview; north on Ridgeview to Kansas City road, go east a couple blocks and go south. It's at the end of the block. read more

I've been living in Kansas since I graduated from KU, though I just recently began the process of becoming an official Kansas resident. I've had a CCW from Colorado for the past few years, and when I became a KS resident, I had to switch over my CO CCW to KS. Due to some minor differences between CO and KS, I had to take the KS CCW class. Bill, the owner, was our instructor and did a great job covering everything required by the State of Kansas. In addition, Centerfire is certified to teach the requirements for several counties in Missouri. We also spent some time on the range, shooting 25 rounds at various distances for the qualification. Though I already knew all of the topics that the class, Bill still did a great job explaining them and adding his personal experience to the class. He answered every question that those who had not carried before were wanting to know, and made sure that everybody understood before moving on. The building was very clean, well lit, and the store had a great selection of items. I've been going to OMB for over a year, but think I'll be switching to Centerfire. For one thing, Centerfire actually carries new guns, rather than cases and cases full of used guns. Will definitely be returning and plan to sign up for a membership. read more

We've been big fans of Centerfire since they opened. Compared to other KCMO area gun ranges we tried this is more female-friendly and family friendly. Great classes. We bring clients from my husband's business here regularly, because a beginner can try several models of guns so they can make a fully informed decision regarding gun ownership, their comfort level, and which gun suits their needs best. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. The gun range is well monitored and clean, a definite step ahead of the competition. And unlike Frontier Justice, serious shooters can practice without being put on display like a freak show (more about that in my Frontier Justice review...stay tuned... ) seriously, CF is awesome and I highly recommend it. read more
