Great trail around the lake. Half is paved and the other half is chipped but very walkable terrain. In between, you cross the dam, which has a very 'sculptural' design. We stopped at a group of people watching a beaver resting on the spillway. A couple of nice picnic pavilions and (remarkably) clean restrooms have shaded playgrounds for kids. The real treat is a professional-grade Disc Golf course. For the less adventurous or for practice is a second, small course. All in all, a gem of a Lenexa park! read more

Yesterday I brought my grandkids here to try out this park. We were unable to try out all of it, but the areas that we did investigate we really enjoyed. I appreciate it that the play areas we went to had partial shade from the alcove of trees. There was a variety of play sets spread out with natural features of tree stumps and such for the kids to climb on. They had a lot of nice walking plaques to explain the walking trail. The golfing disc course was nice because a lot ofit was shaded. We will definitely go back to check out more of it when it is less hot. read more

It's actually not that flat but there's a couple of hills that will make your thighs work overall just beautiful and definitely will return the only thing that's tricky if you're meeting, other people is which parking lot. read more

I finally made it to Black Hoof Park after hearing how great it is. We decided to come here for our walk on a Wednesday after work. It's a 15 minute drive from where I live. When we arrived, not too many car was parked in the parking lot. The park was very quiet and peaceful. They have a lake there and it's beautiful. A couple of people getting in the water with their kayaks. There's also a dock for boats and bicycles near by that you can rent to ride down the trail. After our restroom break at the front entrance, we proceed down the trail on our walk along the way stopping to take in some of the scenic view of the lake and nature. On the map, there's a couple of pathways that takes you off the trail into the woods and nature. We pretty much stay in the trail, afraid we'd get lost since this is our first time here. The walking trail took us to a bridge overlooking a water dam half way in and it is beautiful. We stopped to admire the scenic view and a couple of photos. After that we proceed on down the trail, much of it took us into more of the woods and nature. We walked quite far In wondering if the trail would circle back to where we came in. Luckily, there was someone that walked by who we asked if the trail circle back to the front entrance. It did not so we proceeded to turn around and walk back. We were there for an hour and had work up quite a sweat. Overall, it's a beautiful park. Peaceful and quiet with view of nature and the lake. Take a friend. I won't walk there by alone, although it may be safe. read more

It's a very beautiful park with lots of walking paths, shelter houses, pretty good bathroom facilities, a very long frisbee golf course, a 5 mile marathon course, play areas for children, and beautiful scenery. There are also kayaks and bicycles you can rent and spots to stop and fish or picnic. One path I took was lined with redbud trees in full bloom. The lake is really big and you can walk all the way around it, to the dam and back. read more

I love Black hoof Park. There's so much to do here that it's really quite amazing. Their playground system is something I tell tales about. It's such a robust and formidable park for children that I try to get out there as much as I can. It is however in the wealthier part of Kansas, Lenexa being a pretty established community of upper tier property values. Their main shelter is probably the best shelter in the city. It is absolutely gorgeous. It also cost $400 per day I think! And you have to be a Lenexa resident! But it's right next to a massive children's playground that's probably the best in the city as well. This lake has a massive walking path that goes around it, beautifully made. The lake is clear and the underbrush is defined. I've caught some great bass and crappie out of this lake, off the northeastern shore. It does however get extremely windy, to the point that if you don't have a motor on your boat you might as well not even get on the water. And don't even get me started on the 50° graded boat ramp! Who do these people think we are? It's not even good for cars to drive that high. I have a small boat I carry down and I'll tell you this is probably the worst place to egress into water. It is a very clean lake though, and the fish are healthy. It's got a great runoff in a nature trail swamp-style path, and ample tree cover. Really one of the most beautiful lakes in the city, and if it were bigger I would say probably the best. You can also rent a kayak in the summer out of a self-serve kayak machine if that makes sense to you. Lenexa-in's, am I right? Check it out, it's one of the good ones! read more

A hidden gem of Western Johnson County! Several miles of paved walking trails encircle Lake Lenexa, with some off-trail options as well for you hiking and biking enthusiasts. Easy to get to, plenty of spaces for all ages, and one of the neater architectural designs of a spillway/dam in the local area. If you are coming from the north/off of 83rd, then the Oak Shelter can be found after the third roundabout. Great covered space next to an updated playground area with super views of the lake. Your next entry point provides a boat ramp/water entry and there are no motorized watercraft allowed. Yay! for wake-free water recreation! read more

This is one heck of a park. It's got a little bit of everything: * A giant pond. Canoes, kayaks and other human powered boats are allowed. Signs say it doesn't allow any motors and I didn't see any. You can fish too! * A nice, long walking trail. It measures about two miles long and features a little off shoot under the bridge on the west side of the park. It mainly surrounds the park's pond, but also guides you through a nice little wooded area. Walkers and bikers will share space. Motorized rides are not allowed. * Picnic and play areas. Do you want to bring the kids out for a nice lunch and let them burn off some energy? There are a couple of spots with picnic tables, climbing stations, slides, etc... I didn't see any grills, so please don't bring anything you need to cook. Otherwise, it's a great place to be when the weather is right. * Wildlife. The park is on the edge of town, but it's still, probably, in the city. Nonetheless, if you're watching, you'll see nature poking through. I've seen cranes, hawks, deer, turtles and foxes. It isn't anything crazy, but it's a nice change of pace. * It's clean. The park is well maintained. Nothing looks too out of place or in disrepair. Bathrooms are available too. Like the rest of the park, they're kept in good condition. read more

Great bluegill fishing. Literally they jump on your hook! Playground was good, parking ample and restrooms close by.

Beautiful park and Lake. Several trails for biking and hiking (paved & gravel). The trail around the lake is about 2.5miles and took me an hour to hike. A Great spot for kids and families, as they have 3 really nice playgrounds and shelters you can use for a nice picnic. My favorite part was the dam which was more of an art sculpture than dam. The architecture is beautiful and super unique, great photo spot! read more

Black Hoof is a lovely park and walking area. Whether you live in Kansas City or even Lawrence, I highly recommended driving out to Lenexa for some great walking and running trails. The trails and park itself are beautifully maintained and clean. There is a large dam with intricate architecture, and boardwalks over the wetland. Oh, where to begin. Just by reading the couple of reviews this park had it made me want to come and check this place out. It was just as described. It was also easy to find as well. I didn't put in the address and it take me down weird streets or in the opposite direction as the place. Can't always trust your technology haha Anyways. I pull up to the park and there's a good sized sign out front. Can't miss it. There is also multiple places to park, which is nice. Drove passed the entrance so I could go across the bridge and check out that way. Lovely bridge and its got good sized walk way to so your not hugging the wall every time you pass someone jogging, riding a bike, etc. Turn around and pull in, park. Got all my gear ready and headed on over to check out the area. Its got a boat ramp and next to that is a little dock for boats or for fishing off of. When I got there there was a guy fishing off the dock and a guy fishing off his boat. This place is also kid friendly as well. Plenty of space to run and there's some playgrounds so if you need them to burn off some of that energy before nap time it would be perfect. Before the playground you cross over a nice wooden bridge that has a little water around it. Might be some minnows swimming around in there. Further along the walk way there are numerous spaces off to the side where people can go fishing. They are also clear of moss and lily pads so you won't snag up when you try and cast out. There are also plenty of benches along the way too so if you get tired you can take a breather. I must say this is one clean park. I haven't seen much litter, a few things here and there, but for the most part its very clean. Good place for a picnic, a walk, jog, bike ride, fishing. If you want a table there are a couple of shelters. On my walk around the lake I seen turtles, kids playing, squirrels, lots of turtles, crows, a photographer taking pictures and no snakes. Thank goodness. If your looking for a new place to check out I highly recommend this park. read more

This is a very well-maintained, visually enticing, activity-filled park. The landscaping is beautiful. The shelter and restrooms are large, new, clean and very nice. There are several large play areas for children with various climbing structures, bridges, swings, and slides. There is a little wooded area with logs the children can walk on to challenge their balance and have fun. There is a landscaped creek for playing in. There is a splash zone and a sand pit. There is also, of course, the good-sized Lake Lenexa next door for added draw. This park ranks high on the list of area parks for kids. read more

We meet for a family gathering here with many members being from out of state, saw this on the website. It is an awesome place to gather! Our group had ages 3-74 and all thought it was perfect. Several playground areas, indoor clean restrooms, large area of sheltered picnic tables, many charcoal grills, walking/biking trails, lots of trees for shade, ample parking. Very clean, well maintained park. We will return. read more
