Being able to swim more frequently on a beautiful day is such a gift out here! I was on the lookout for local community pools and went to check out Verdugo at Mary Alvord Recreation Center. Like most community pools, it's in a beautiful neighborhood of Burbank and has some playgrounds and tennis courts near the pool. The locker rooms are kept up really well and the pool's temperature is kept at just the right level of cold and the chlorine level doesn't feel drastic as some places. The staff are great and helpful. The day rate depends on if you live in Burbank or not ($6-8) for lap swim and keep their schedule updated on their website. Bring your own swim gear as they are not provided by the aquatic center! Depending on time of day and when you go, the lap swim can be metered or by yards, as the layout of the pool can change (with kids swim, open swim, aerobics) nearby. Theres also a nice outdoor area for family events or kids birthday parties. Theres street side parking and they have a good size parking lot but it's pretty busy on weekends; people leave frequently and usually are waiting for your parking spot when you head out! A local who has been coming here for years encouraged me to try Mccambridge Recreation Pool (which I have yet to)! read more

This place is a great summer spot for my kids. We always have fun here. During the summer, it's our go-to place to escape the heat without having to travel too far. The area is fairly spacious, and there's a pool you can jump into if the playground gets old. The downside, though, is the time limit they impose. They have two playtime slots: usually from 11:30 to 1:00 and 1:30 to 3:00. That's only an hour and a half of playtime, which my kids absolutely hate. Every time their playtime is interrupted, it leaves a bad impression. They enjoy the place, but once they have to leave due to the time limit, I hear about it nonstop. I personally prefer the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center. It offers unlimited play from open to close, but they do a quick equipment check every hour, which is understandable. It only takes about 15 minutes, and once that's done, you can go right back in. Here, you have to leave and buy a new wristband, about $3 per kid to return, meaning you're paying double if you want to stay longer than 90 minutes. This is definitely something they should reconsider, as I'm sure many people aren't happy with this setup. read more

This place was awesome! I was so skeptical of going and it being a total disappointment since all the info online was a bit confusing and no review was recent. It was great though So we got there at 11:10am Because I saw online that there's presale for those that are Burbank residents. From 9am-10am you burbankians can go to www.burbankparks.com and reserve your tickets to go in. So there are two time slots You can go in from 11:45a to 1:45 then there's 2p to 4p. We only did the first session Going back to we got there at 11:10 and were the fifth family waiting for 11:45 to purchase tickets to go into the activity pool. We paid $23 for two kids two adults and a senior. Which I'm not sure what the breakdown was but didn't question it. So we brought in the minimal but still more than what I thought would be allowed. We had our back packs and a cooler nothing was checked. But everyone seems to bring lunch and snacks. I only brought snacks hoping that would be allowed and it was! Overall we had a blast by 1:45 we were told to clear out the area and those that I guess paid for the second session waited by the pool and the staff cleaned the activity pool area. Go see for yourself it was nice, we joined our kids in the water but many parents go and lounge or chat with their parent friends and let the lifeguards do their job ensuring their kids wouldn't run or drown. read more

We decided to check this place out on a hot day, specifically the activity pool. We aren't Burbank residents so we had to stand in line to buy tickets. These are on a first-come first-serve basis and they are limited to a certain amount. We stood in line for the 12:45-2:00 pm tickets by 12:30 and made it in. This was on a weekday, so can't speak for the weekends. We had been advised over the phone to arrive no later than 12:15 to guarantee entry but, y'know, it never turns out that way with kids! They accept credit cards (no American Express!). We paid $26 for two adults and one child under 3 (they're free for the main pool). This includes the activity pool and use of the main pool until 3:45 pm. They also require masks of everyone (regardless of vaccination status) while inside the building. Chairs are on a first-come first-serve basis and got snatched up pretty quickly in the activity pool area, so bring along beach chairs if you'd like. There's three shaded picnic tables but those were claimed right away. The earlier you get there the better chance of grabbing a chair and a shaded area. Bring a towel. Our toddler really enjoyed the activity pool. It includes a shallow area for younger children to crawl and play in the water. The play area shoots, sprays and dumps water and includes a small slide structure. The water in this area ranges from a few inches to 4' deep. There are also two larger water slides but you must be 47 inches or taller to ride. The green water slide is an enclosed tunnel which seemed faster and the blue water slide is an open top slide for a more slower ride. Both are enjoyable. The wait time when we went was only a couple minutes. Children cannot ride on parent's laps and it's one rider per slide. There's no outside food allowed, with the exception of water. They have snack and drinks vending machines that take credit cards, and a snack shop. We didn't buy any of their food since the majority of it is junk food. I did see a couple people drinking Starbucks beverages so not sure how strict this really is. They allow ins and outs with your wrist band so you could always step outside for a snack and come back in. There's showers and lockers in the restrooms and a couple outside private areas with a door for changing. There's a sink and a changing table in the larger bathroom stall. I'm not sure if the water is supposed to be heated because it was pretty chilly both in the activity pool and main area. I really wish that they would extend the activity pool time since 1 hour and 15 minutes seems way too short. From past reviews, it seems that it used to be 2 hours. That would be way more ideal. Once our time was up at the activity pool, we headed over to the pool but by that time our toddler was getting hungry and she also wanted to go back into the activity area since the second session had started but our time was up. We ended up leaving shortly after. Parking is free in their parking lot. We didn't have any trouble finding a spot. read more

What is with the goofy hours here? I've never seen such ridiculous hours for a pool before. Recreational swim Is open from 11:30 to 3:30. I'd like to congratulate the genius that came up with these hours for being so clever. Today the diving board was closed! What the actual for unlawful carnal knowledge! For recreational swim they should open the whole pool but they just have a little portion in the shallow end open. Usually the diving boards are open but today they were closed with the whole deep end roped off for lap swimming. When we asked for a refund they said, "Sorry." First time visiting, and we have lived in Burbank for 7 years. Got there at 11:45 on a Saturday in July, and there were already 40 people in line. The price is great and the pools are all salt water, no chlorine which is a nice bonus. We paid for both sessions in the kids activity pool but there is a 15 min break in between sessions so they make everyone leave the activity area so they can clean and the life guards take a break I guess. Didn't try the snack shack but the menu looked ok. No lockers for the public but there are family bathrooms. But if you want a table or lounge chair you have to get there in line by 11:30 on the weekends. read more

Zero stars! This pool really has gone down to the ground. No place to put your things, sit or lay out. They make you pay which is not much but the principle. Walked in and both diving boards are closed! You basically pay money to swim in the little 4 by 4 area. I might as well just swim in my bathtub! So, more then half the pool is for lap swimming! We asked, and get this... not enough staff?!?! It's summer!!!! This pool was so much better when the WHOLE pool was open without the stupid pool lane ropes! The kids that work there are all clueless and have attitudes. Sorry this is not high school! This review is about pool supervisor Henry Margaryan and Burbank Police. And where our taxes go. I've been visiting this pool for many years. They had bed chairs and regular chairs all over the place. First come first get. Recently they moved all bed chairs to the Activity pool, where they are having parties on weekends. I came on Saturday, Oct 7. Pooled out one bed chair from the activity pool. Maybe 20 feet away beyond the fence and spend wonderful two hours swimming and taking the sun bath. Next day I did the same. Activity pool had a party again and most of the chairs was empty again. I was asked to leave by Henry Margaryan - pool supervisor. NO RULES POSTED ANYWHERE. I've asked what he is going to do if I don't. He said he had to call. Who? Police? He said yes. I'm managing seniors complex in front of police station in downtown Burbank. We had homeless people, we had thief's, we had many occasions and it was always hard to get police's help. However, Police Officer arrived and asked me to get out from the bed chair and moved it back behind the fence in the Activity Pool area, where nobody needed it. Police officer, why did you come? To move the chair? What if I refused to get out of that chair? Would you take me to a prison in a wet swimming suit? Didn't you have something more important to do? NOW I KNOW WHEERE OUR TAXES GO. Verdugo Aquatic Facility had a Floating Pumpkin Parch Event this Saturday afternoon. I was invited and saw it advertised in the Burbank Recreation Magazine... However, I didn't call in my RSVP this year. Slippity sloppity of me. The aquatic park event employee let me in to take photos. But I just missed the pumpkin carving contest, which appeared to be the best event, because this place sure emptied out. It was mostly parents with their children anyways. I only took photos of the places without people because this was considered a local private event. The Halloween music was fantastic. Big band to current dance pop music on loud speakers. And on this hot but breezy afternoon, I could be found alone on the bleachers Yelping and listening to the music. Oh yeah, Burbank's Verdugo Aquatic Park can be found open year round. Maybe, idk for sure. Memberships are available. Classes are available. Or you can pay for a one-day pass/visit. The same stuff in this paragraph applies to the tennis courts. It's a nice place. I know, I live in the vicinity and drive by way too often. But I prefer to run around in the mountain. read more

If you're lucky enough to snag a Go! Party reservation, your kids are in for a treat! The entire water park reserved for you and your friends for two hours, with 4 lifeguards there to supervise, for less than $500! It's a steal (especially compared to indoor playgrounds that charge $1,500+). read more

This pool is great but they have limited hours and when it is open, it's often rented out by the extremely loud swim team or a school who takes almost the entire pool up. This means paying local members only have 3 lanes left for literally everyone. When the schools are here the locker rooms are overrun with kids so good luck getting being able to get out of the pool in a reasonable timeframe. It's quite common to come here and not be able to even get a lane at 12-1 and it's not like you can wait because the pool closes from 2-4. It's **absolutely infuriating.** Every day someone is upset about this because they make the trip and have to turn right the heck around and leave. Just close the pool to the public and cease calling it a public pool if there's no room for paying swimmers. The ethical thing to do is to let the schools and teams rent their own private hours to allow folks who pay to use the pool a reasonable level of access. I waited so they could right themselves after 2020 but it's been 3 years and we still have this absolute BS. It's clear they only want paid groups here and not individuals. I'm out. Very cute city run water park for kids with 2 larger slides for 7 and older. Also a large swimming pool with a big free swim area next to lap swimming. Free parking. Large clean lockers. Lots of chairs and benches next to the swim area. I saw a concession stand but it wasn't open. Everyone brought their own food and snacks. I brought a swim noodle for my 5 year old. I didn't ask about life vests. $20 for 3 of us (cheaper if you live in Burbank). We spent 3 fun hours there. My kids loved it. read more

Below is a photograph of the flyer I received from Parks & Recreation showing the activities for the month of October. As you can see, you have to pre-register for the October 27 activity, but not the one on October 21. Imagine my surprise then, when I showed up today to the Floating Pumpkins activity only to be told that if I did not pre-register, I would not be allowed in. I showed the guy the flyer (short guy, black hair, late 40s), and he said loudly, "If your name is not on the list, you're not coming in." He then said, "Next" while I'm still standing there. The flyer is incomplete and incorrect. Burbank Aquatics needs to be better organized, and perhaps proofread the flyers before they're sent to the public. That type of error reeks of incompetence. My daughter suffered from secondary drowning at her first swim lesson in front of the instructor and lifeguard. Terrible approach for anyone LEARNING to swim. Zero safety techniques or discussion. The first red flag should have been the class starting several minutes early for FIRST TIME swimmers. The instructor grew impatient and was overall incompetent. I showed up way too early to get in line based on other reviews I've seen. 20-25 mins before open swim opens on a weekday should be plenty. The kiddos had a blast, as did (seemingly) all the parents. It was fantastic to see parents in their 50's going wild in the pool with their kids (grandkids?) and all the kids (including teens) had an absolute blast. The passes are for 1 hr 15 mins but it felt like 2 hours, which was enough time for the kiddo to get hungry and want to leave 2 mins before they called us to get out. There are 2 slides and endless entertainment with different "dumping water" obstacles you can aim at unsuspecting patrons in the pool. I don't typically enjoy being at a water park or around a lot of kids but it was entertaining and fun even for me. If you live in Burbank you can buy a pass that morning before everyone else can. Only reason this wasn't a 5 star review was the mixed customer service. If you show up too early and don't know where to go (in line outside), you interrupt their job. You can't buy passes until about 10 mins before open swim. Line up right outside the main entrance (to the right) where the chains are. read more

Despite living in Burbank for almost five years since my move from NYC, I had never gone to the aquatics facility. My son is two and we thought he'd enjoy the activity pool. I researched online and saw that you must reserve a session online the morning of. If you are a Burbank resident, then 9-11am is when you would log onto the site to reserve a session. Each session is an hour and 15 mins. You pay the fee upon entering after showing your ID & reservation. Since it was our first time, we showed up at 12:45am which was when the session began and there was a very long line. We were finally third in line at around 1:20pm and weren't able to purchase a second session because we had another commitment that day. The gentleman in front of me, who was already very upset at the lack of organization, asked his older children (prob pre-teens) if they would like him to purchase the next session and they agreed. He got even more upset when the gentleman in front of him was able to purchase three sessions for the whole day without any reservations. He then said, "this is going to take awhile. I need to have a long conversation with them" to which my response was, "please do not have a long conversation." Post-lockdown I've been a little unaware and occasionally say what I'm thinking. I also gathered the information that his children agreed to play during the next two sessions which meant he had the time to spare. It was 1:30pm at that point and we did not have the option of taking a later session so my son only had about half an hr and if the gentleman's convo took another 15 minutes then we wouldn't have much time and toddlers are not historically reasonable. When the gentleman got upset, which I thought was valid, because I didn't properly articulate what I meant, I then asked if it would be okay if we just checked in quickly so he would be able to have the longer conversation that he needed to express his disappointment since we are unable to make the next time. He replied, "Since, you are more important than me" while wildly avoiding eye contact which is just what people do when they are upset and we are all a little tender right now so I let him know that I absolutely did not think that and he said he had contacted the facility ahead of time to find everything out and that the dept head said he could show up on time and it wouldn't be a problem, etc. His frustration was valid and I agreed that logistically this could have been communicated better. He let me go first and perhaps maybe realized what I had actually meant by my comment, but maybe he didn't. Regardless, we took about 70 seconds to check in and my son was able to enjoy the activity pool for the short time we had left on the reserved session. I will note that the gentleman without a reservation was there with his two younger children and his mother. He had a big bag of Porto's and he seemed as if this was his day with his children and he was trying to make it very special. I don't like to judge people on their appearance but it was possible that his socioeconomic status was not the same as mine or the gentleman directly in front of me who was very angry (in fact I'd venture to say that the angry gentlemen is probably considered "important" in whatever role he holds at work). The employee at the counter, who may have also sensed this, treated the man with no reservation with a lot of respect and was friendly and didn't ask him for proof of residency. He didn't give him a hard time nor did he tell him he couldn't bring in the food and I think that was the right and kind decision. Kudos to the employee working on 6/26 at 1:30pm. Some people do not have access to the internet or have a computer in their home so it is understandable that exceptions be made for those people and there should not be an assumption that everyone attending a public pool facility (regardless if it's in a studio exec town) has access to these utilities. I think a few easy things could resolve these issues: - reservation confirmations should indicate that you should show up a bit earlier for your reserved session to avoid cutting into your session time. - employees should be trained to explain to the angry folks that overhear passes being purchased in person without reservations (despite the website listing that absolutely no on site purchases can be made) that there are exceptions to those without access to a computer/internet. - add another staff member to check folks in during the sessions especially during peak times, there was only one employee when I was there. My family and I went for their Halloween Pumkin Event. The kids loved it. I was expecting water to be warmer as they said it was heated, but it was so cold out it probably didnt get heated well. Never had been here before hearing about event but would live to take my kids again once weather is warmer again. They loved it. Two words: beautiful disaster! The pool that all of Burbank (myself included) have been waiting for for years looks great but is a total dump. Literally! There are candy wrappers in the outside showers every day, bulging trash cans outside that sit undumped for days and the pool staff is even worse. Lazy, inattentive and often times downright rude, no one I've talked to there has any sense of ownership and it shows. My 4 yo daughter and I have been there everyday for the past four weeks for swim lessons and the conditions have only gotten worse. We've actually started to make a game of the filth in the men's room. I don't want to get too graphic, but the toilet in the handicapped stall has obviously never been scrubbed with any sort of real effort. Let's just say there are things inside that bowl that have been there for weeks. Nobody sweeps the floors on any sort of regular basis and the doors are sticky with suntan lotion hand and arm prints. It's disgusting! Last year, before Verdugo opened, we had lessons at the Pacific Pool in Glendale and they were awesome and clean. And one of the reasons they stayed clean is because the lifeguards had to do a sweep of the area before they went on break. They dumped trash, swept and actually cared what their locker rooms and pool looked like and it showed. On top of all that, the classes themselves at Verdugo are overcrowded and taught by the greenest lifeguards I've ever seen. It's basically a half hour free for all for the kids. That said, my daughter still loves the classes but I can't help but wonder how much further along she'd be in her progress if we'd stuck to Glendale again this year. All I can say is that Verdugo better shape up fast because people talk, and I am not the only parent that thinks the place needs help. At the very least, they should use some of the money that's pouring in every day (don't get me started on the recreational swim fees!) to hire a full-time janitor. If Verdugo looks this dirty after a month, just imagine what it will look like after a few years. Yikes! read more

Some undeserved harsh reviews about this place! It's a public pool people and as far as they go, this one is pretty darn good! The pool is clean and well-maintained with lots of lifeguards on duty. They are a little more relaxed than the LA public pools which is nice. We always bring a couple of chairs and hang out on the pool deck for a few hours which is really nice on a hot day. Parking is relatively easy. There is a great activity pool for the little ones... and also two huge slides for those 47" and taller - adults have just as much fun on these slides as the kids do! But be warned that the passes for the activity pool [$2 each for 2 hour session] sell out pretty fast. We usually buy our passes early [10am for non-Burbank residents] then go back later in the day. For the price... it's a great deal. read more

In the last week I've visited the Verdugo Aquatics pool twice. The first time my experience was not good at all! I had some issues with the rude young teenage life guards that had no manners! That is why I'm giving it a 3 star also because there are no chairs to sit on so you pretty much lay your towel on the floor and sit and no outside food or drinks only water! But overall my kids loved it! They have two sessions from 11:30-1:45 and from 2:00-4:00. You have to pay for each session! Use to be cash only but now they accept credit cards! read more

Love their activity pool! We can go experience a smaller scale water park for our toddler without driving to Knotts soak city or staying at a hotel with a water park. It's not a real water park, but it gets the job done on a hot day in the valley. Tickets sell out though but we're always able to at least enjoy the pool if the activity pool is sold out. Wish they'd enforce the wristbands better though. They let some folks stay in the activity pool area even without wristbands, because those folks said they were just sitting there, not using the activity pool. Um, they were using the pool earlier before the lifeguard caught them! Why did I drive myself over to buy pre-sale tix so early on a Sunday if apparently they'll just let folks who didn't pay for tickets use the activity pool area? Either someone should guard the entrance and check for wristbands at all times before they enter or they should stop selling tickets to the activity pool. Otherwise it's not fair for those who did buy tix. The staff and lifeguards are helpful and nice local high school kids. They're always very helpful with questions and take their lifeguard duties seriously. read more

Went to this place for the first time today with my family and we loved it!! The facility was clean, the workers friendly and helpful. Plenty of lifeguards on duty. The activity pool is SO FUN!! Great place to take the kids when you don't want to make the drive to a full on water park. My kids had the greatest time, and so did I! The slides are super fun.
