I can't believe Andy hasn't had a review here. A really decent, hard working guy who makes it his business to please. Highly recommend.

Bob's Locks is now our local locksmith/key-cutter. - We'd just moved to a new place and, whilst the…read morelandlord had warned us of the temperamental front door lock, we were having real difficulty getting in and out of the flat. - No good thing so soon in to the lease, of course. Luckily, our landlord agreed to have someone from Bob's Locks out to look at the lock and they were able to come out that same day. Bob's Locks were prompt and, after the initial look over the tricky lock in question, said they'd be in correspondence with our landlord then come back later in the day to fix it, presuming our landlord was happy to go ahead. We had plans later in the day so we stressed that it would be best if the lock was changed ASAP or tomorrow at an arranged time. A Bob's Lock guy came out again speedily and the lock was changed super fast, meaning that we we were free to enjoy the sunshine with the reassurance that we'd be able to get back into the flat hassle-free. Everyone we'd encountered was friendly and helpful, and talked us through everything along the way. Two keys were included with the change of lock, so we needed an additional key. We were needing another key copied anyway so we popped round to Bob's Locks where, once again, it was a speedy and pleasant experience. It cost £12 to get the two keys cut. The one thing I can't comment on is the cost of the change of lock, since this is something my landlord covered. However, based on my experience with Bob's Locks, I'm willing to give my local locksmith the full five stars, and I'll be back if I've any lock/key needs.

He was pleasant enough and we arranged for it to be done between 10-11 the next day and says they'll give us a ring if they're running late at all. Next day arrives and no show by eleven. At half eleven I go for a quick shower as I need to start getting on with my day, I step out the shower, look out my window and see a Bob's Locks van driving away! No ring of the doorbell, no phonecall, just a business card posted through the letterbox. Will not be using again.

Obviously I don't just wander around Edinburgh spending my time in different tradesman's shops just for shits and giggles, I did actually go there for a reason. Basically the key for the lock on our back door has lasted for 160 years, then I came along, swiftly breaking it in two. Obviously these keys are difficult to replace, and I had to trek around most of Edinburgh before I stumbled in here by chance. To my surprise, they not only could cut a new key for me, but did it by 5 o'clock that afternoon (I went in there about 1ish). Bearing in mind nowhere else could even make one, that's pretty good. They also cleaned up the lock for free as well. The key wasn't too cheap (about £40) but it was very specific and not above expectations. The old boys there are great and totter about with an encyclopaedic knowledge of locks and the like. Useful seeing as I know absolutely nada on the topic. If you're looking for anything key or lock related, come here. It's the best in Edinburgh

They have no respect for their customers and don't deserve your service. We have taken weeks off work to have Viewforth come round and make the same mistakes over and over again, we've had windows repainted three times after Viewforth have been called back to fix (and repeat) mistakes. We've had to explicitly ask for them to stop sending the same junior installers round to repeat mistakes, installers who sit in their vans all day playing on their phones and then taking a day to fix a one hour problem, at the customer's expense - this is how they respond to a complaint. Where a reputable joiner would use a chisel and a workbench these guys will hack at your frames using a Stanley knife, and then fit the parts squint. We've had ropes detach, having been poorly fitted, brass parts fitted squint (and then moved and fitted squint again!), or brass parts left scratched and buckled. It took almost a year for them to fix one problem (mastic), blaming everything from birds to bees for the simple fact that they didn't do the job properly in the first place. This review is based on my experience over a year, so this wasn't simply a single bad experience that I'm having a moan about but rather a sustained marathon of incompetence and apathy. You can do better than this.
