A close relative of mine, who was admitted at the age of 10, experienced severe bullying from other children during her stay. The facility is overbooked, leading to inadequate staffing and poor supervision. She described her time there as traumatic, feeling that she emerged in a worse state than when she entered. Many staff members lack compassion, and she felt as though she was confined in a prison-like environment. There were significant issues, such as the absence of running hot water, forcing her to take cold showers. The lack of supervision was especially concerning in the outdoor play areas, where she was bullied to the point that another child shoved grass into her mouth while staff were on their phones. Not one ounce of care. Kids sharing their traumatic experiences with others and grown men trying to flirt with kids in the yard. Disgusting!!!!! Additionally, there were troubling incidents involving older kids, some of whom had criminal backgrounds, and adults on the opposite wing who played loud, inappropriate music that young children could hear. Given these experiences, I cannot recommend this place to anyone. They say these places are suppose to help kids with this care but they actually come out worse. I was admitted here last year at age 14. None of the staff told me where my room was, or really anything at all. When they finally told me where my room was, I expected my stuff to be there--but it wasn't. I didn't get fresh clothes until two days later. There were multiple spiders and centipedes in my bed, and many others complained about them as well. I was diagnosed with POTS, and the staff forced me to stay in the Florida heat even after I told four different staff members to call my mother about it. The staff were constantly talking among themselves about how "understaffed" they were. Because of this, my three-day stay turned into a week. Staff literally said there were no discharges on weekends because they didn't have enough people. No one communicated with each other, and my parents tried calling the staff multiple times with no response. Staff members pushed me, yelled at me, hit me, and talked about me because I was speaking to one of my friends during a group therapy session. Random bloodwork and urine tests were done without anyone explaining them. You are constantly monitored while sleeping, eating, sitting in the main area--basically everywhere. My friend got stuck there because she told a staff member not to push me, since random touches trigger me. They put everyone on Benadryl to sleep at night. My parents and I also asked for all-female doctors, but instead they were all male. The psychiatrist isn't even there in person--he's only ever there on an iPad. Another girl in the facility was denied her seizure medication and had a seizure in the middle of the rec room. anyways this place was the literal embodiment of hell. Horrible nightmare for my 17 year old. He was inappropriately Baker Acted by the police and the hospital took him in and he was not seen by anyone with authority for over 8 hours, and then it was only a quick video chat. If he had been seen and evaluated, as he was completely calm and not in crisis any at point, he would have been appropriately and immediately discharged. They did not give him his prescribed medications in the 48 hours he was held here. He never should have been admitted. Once he was, he was terrified. He didn't even have a bed or room for the first night. They have ADMITTED THEIR FAILURE by reversing all billing charges - thankfully - but that does not protect others from their negligence and incompetence. This place is a disaster. Nobody should be seen there until there is a complete overhaul in how patients are handled, especially those Baker Acted and teenagers. In a time of crisis, this place made it 1000 times worse. The female pharmacist was on her cell phone watching a movie while she was passing out night meds. $1000 a day to support a pharmacist Netflix habit? I would give 0 stars if I could. This facility is filled with racist employees (I'm not saying all) who love to physically and mentally abuse their patients. I WILL NAME 2 that are horrible. Medical Techs Johan and Manny physically attacked me and verbally abused and threatened my physical safety. They called me a "mentally disturbed 'Cracker" and threatened to kick my a@@ multiple times. Keep in mind I am a military veteran who is classified as a vulnerable disabled adult. Another incident happened when they refused to let me go even though state law requires a doctor to release a voluntary patient within 24 hours of the request. Meanwhile, Social Worker Ashley forced me against my will to rescind my request because the main psychiatrist was gone for 2 days. My mom was on life support in a NY hospital and I needed to get to her to say goodbye. This hospital refused my chance to get to her. Well she ended up passing literally almost 2 days later. Then they decide to release me after she had died. Well, it was a little late to say goodbye and they broke the state mental health laws. The last incident occured on May 9th: While I was walking in the hallway talking about staff I was hit in the face by a patient when I had my back turned. (So in other words I was cheap shotted) The staff refused to do anything and some even laughed about, especially Johan who is a piece of shit. I left on the 10th and immediately filed complaints with many agencies including The Department of Children and Families and The ADA. They both said the hospital was negligent and injustice had occured. OMG Another bad review. 2022 Central Florida Behavioral Hospital I will not go into all the details. They do not change or tweak medications at C.F.B.H. I went here for help with medications. I was told over the phone they did this. I went through a 12-hour intake no medications they left me burn in a room they gave me a toilet that was full. I mean 8 peoples worth full. This toilet has never been flushed and these nurses have no idea they are putting me into a room like this. So I threw up (dry heaves) on the floor. Snotty nurse wanted me to go to the bathroom until she seen what I already seen. Then she takes a towel and throws it Infront of me and says throw up on that. Next day got medications. I was there too long when I was told the truth. "WE DO NOT CHANGE MEDICATIONS" From the start they knew why I was checking myself in. Got 500 bucks cash and as much as they could get from insurance. Thanks DeSantis we are the lowest funded State in America for mental health. I must also say, there were people getting help here. Specific things they need to do and C.F.B.H. Offers this help from what I seen. People were getting some help. Not everyone, but some. The hospital takes away anything from you so no one gets hurt. Then you see the food. I ask myself what is the point. I had gut problems for months after leaving the hospital. My gut would have died in there. You complain about what the food is doing to your insides, and they hand you Metamucil which they seem to have in good supply. You see staff carry luch or leave to eat somewhere. I said to this nurse she would take us to the lunch room sit and wait then take us back to the ward then leaves for her lunch. All she did was give me a half smile and said "no way I will eat here." Good to know. The problem folks we need to have a good diet and exercise to have a healthy mind. When this isn't being applied, we are not really helping anyone. In a hospital environment is where this needs to be happening all the time. I taught myself basic Tai Chi in C.F.B.H. was nothing to do. I would find early in the morning no one at the TV and they had YouTube channel. So found Tai Chi and that is helping me more than any medication or doctor ever has. Be careful. read more

I made it there at 11:30 a.m and I went inside at 9:30 p.m. Once I was inside one of the guys that worked there was really rude when i was asking questions about what that means what that means. And when I was scared of sleeping alone the lady was really disrespectful and just said go back to bed and turned off the light when i wanted them on, when I turned on the light she yelled at me to turn them back on. I was a patient here not too long ago. I'm 15 so I was in the kids section. They made me go with the group to the gym even though i had expressed in detail how the loud, echoey sound of the basketballs triggered me really bad. I remember curling up in a corner crying until we did group therapy and the noise subsided. They kept the kids with anger issues and homicidal tendencies in the same group with the suicidal kids, which is not a good choice in my opinion. I was scared and on edge when I was there. The other reviews are right, it was very dirty. I remember the bottom of my socks always being black by the end of the day. Also, while I was there, I got food poisoning. I was up all night liquid shitting and throwing up. I was violently shaking and desperately wanted to sleep, but couldn't, due to the uncomfortable beds and the regular 15 minute check-ups. One of the employees was nice though, his name was Mr. Chris. He said he never wanted to see me in there again, which was nice. He also got me m&m's from the vending machine when I drew a picture of him. He did yell though, and I didn't like that very much. I think there should be a better option of kids to sleep more. I went to Central Florida Behavioral hospital some years back. Every time had gone "just ok" until one of my last visits. So I got a "journal" just then in that place "and it seemed to be found by a man" and he "automatically thought this journal WAS OLD...." And thought i'd gone through all my problems and was completely "FINE...." But, it wasn't. I was going through agony and pain and it was hard to bare even that I needed to fake MY SMILES to get out of this place because I hate Mental Hospitals.... I had to fake that I am happy to get out.... Suddenly this man starts to send me letters. And then the staff NEVER TELLS ME THAT I'M GETTING THESE LETTERS.... And then they take it away and KEEP IT instead.... And then they just start TAKING ALL OF THEM without telling me THAT "HES" writing to me and that "HES WRITING AND SENDING ME LETTERS...." Instead they take them and they "tell me nothing.... And they never even told me. I left not knowing and the letters never came in." The guy thought "I was acting like a child for him but I wasn't I was acting like a child FOR ME. Because I WAS A CHILD still.... I was immature and young still. And then cause I didn't write back he thought "I was being pretentious...." So, instead he did something only they do in their "zone" or "world" and mind. "He made a prank to show everybody what the prank is and what happened which is actually a lie...." He started talking "AS ME...." And started trying to write "BACK TO THE LETTERS" for me.... I am a family member that brought my elderly mother to Central Florida Behavioral Hospital to have her medications adjusted. Many of the nurses and other staff were very professional, kind and provided excellent care for my mother during her appropriately 2 week stay. Unfortunately, there was zero communication from the treating doctor even though I was my mother's health care surrogate and POA. The treating doctor never once, even upon discharge of my mother, discussed my mother's prognosis, treatment during hospital stay, medications administered during stay, or medications added or medications discontinued. The discharge process was very disorganized and the discharge planner was rude and condescending, made numerous mistakes in regards to filling out the discharge paperwork, which resulted in several days my mother did not receive the correct medications. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. I was a patient there four times in 2021 when I was 13-14 because my mentality was just not healthy. And when I tell you, I still have nightmares about being back at that place. For starters, getting admitted was a nightmare. You're put into this small, claustrophia-inducing room for literal HOURS. I once checked in at 8:00pm, and byt the time I finally got fully admitted and was allowed to go to sleep, it was 1:30 in the morning. The staff are borderline abusive and did not care about our wellbeing whatsoever, at one point even getting physical with a girl who was trying to walk away because another girl was bullying her. I did my best to stay under the radar as much as a could, but I still got my fair share of mistreatment. My first stay there, I overheard my roommate say that if I ever fell off my bed and broke me neck, she's just tell me to "die quieter," which scared the shit out of me. Later that night, she beat someone up. I had to beg them to let me switch rooms, and they acted as if it was such an inconvenience to them. Another time, a girl was being told she'd get out that night, but then they switched hers meds without telling her, which(for those of you that don't know) means she'd have to stay at least another five days. For what reason well that's his business. But when I was finally discharged I was forced to go back to where I was before moving against my will. I'm an adult. Over the age of 18. I'm not even going to put my energy into the details of how disgusting the staff were and probably still are because it's the same people no doubt because apparently people are so miserable with themselves they have to work somewhere where they can feel like they control everything and are somehow superior. They take everything you say as a joke then gossip with other staff like it's a girls slumber party and say horrible things to the patients. or they just genuinely think your a walking joke and entertainment center because you have so much pain which is what you literally came there for. And all these mental institutions don't just attack one specific person. Your not special to them. Im done being treated like I'm the most worthless ugliest pea brained thing that exists. I was baker acted into this hospital obviously against my will and my family's will because someone I knew believed I was suicidal, even though I was not. I was having a terrible day and when they evaluated me, they said I had severe depression and threw me into the Depression & Anxiety ward for nearly three days, confused and terrified. Received no real help here, barely spoke to any doctors, they only speak to you to see what medication they need to prescribe you and then send you on your way. For the first day, I was incredibly nauseous and throwing up all over myself and I asked for help, for something to help with the nausea and I received nothing--I wasn't even given another hospital gown or pair of socks after I had thrown up all over them, I was literally in my own filth for days. Your activities are limited to coloring, reading old magazines again and again and watching whatever they have on television, group therapy is a joke and doesn't help in one bit. You are literally treated like a prisoner at this facility, they strip you of your rights, they take everything from you only care about shoving medication down your throat, you are given a set schedule every single day beginning at 7:00 am and in bed by 10:00 pm where they turn off all the phones and everything else, sending you to your room that actually look like a prison cell. Small hardwood beds with a plastic mattress top, a thin pillow and thin hospital blankets; my sheets were dirty and had holes in them, the window in the bedroom was also fogged up so you couldn't see out of it. This place then has the nerve to charge $800 a night. I received a bill of $2,500 for literally staring at a wall and receiving zero medication for three days and two nights. They're the crazy ones if they think I'm going to be giving them a penny for all the trauma I went through. This place is NOT helpful at all, please do NOT send your loved ones here or yourself! As someone else stated, this place might be good for someone who has no options left, but if you're just looking for counseling, don't come here. Now, when I called the next morning I got greeted by someone on the unit, and then after waiting about 7 minutes, transferred to a RN who literally spoke to me like I had no brain whatsoever. I , just like anyone else could be worried about their friend. This disgusting attitude I was given just because I wanted to speak to my loved one. She said "I have no idea what you're taking about." Several times. In which I understand patient confidentiality and HIPPA. I am in health care myself, and I KNOW certainly nobody deserves to be spoken to like that. I UNDERSTAND the level of confidentiality. I was made known I needed a "patient confidential code." And since I am the emergency contact I asked how to obtain that so I can see how my loved one is doing. This nurse continued to say "I don't know what you're talking about." In which I REITERATED why I was calling. I was literally stunned. A few seconds later I had to take a deep breath because I wanted to figure out a way to speak to him and go about the process. He was transferred, I didn't bring him directly in. I am his transportation, and his loved one, why didn't I deserve an explanation? And she proceeded to say after, "I have medications to give." This place is terrible, my girlfriend was sent to this place a few days ago after a week long hospital stay. She is now on a "Voluntary baker act" so you'd think she can leave AMA right? Wrong, the psychiatrists disregard the fact that she has a job and a life outside of this hellhole, they won't let her leave because her situation is serious considering she has diabetes. Is that their loophole to have her stay in there longer to make more money? Yes I firmly believe so. What others have said... if you don't have insurance they will quickly transfer you to Lakeside. My son was Baker acted, transferred him to CFB and there were 5 people working late shift on a Thursday night. They are all laughing and carrying on in the back room while the patients sat there for over 5 hours before getting evaluated. There were only 3 patients waiting and it takes 5 hours to speak to them. Ridiculous.. their processes are antiquated and inefficent..the staff are mostly caustic and disinterested, you ask questions and you get sketchy answers as if you are inconveniencing them asking them basic questions. I get it that its tough working in mental health but don't be there unless you want too. This place doesn't help or treat people. It's a money scam, nothing more, and I was stupid enough to sign myself into this place on the recommendation of my psychiatrist. If I look back at my life, being here (they haven't released me yet) has got to rank in the top ten biggest mistakes of my life because it made me lose trust in the medical community and in people in general, not to mention that my time here has been absolutely miserable. $850 a night to eat unhealthy fried food (apparently, in their eyes, healthy food and feeling better are not related), sleeping in an old, freezing room with a roommate (in order to save on the cost of individual rooms), a staff member opening your door every twenty minutes and usually waking you up in order to check in on you, fogged over windows and locked doors to the outside so you get no sunlight or fresh air, and group "therapy" (to avoid the cost of individual therapy) which is just something to kill time twice a day such as worksheets that the "therapist" printed off the internet or some conversationalist cards that people might use at a party to stir conversation. There's no point to any of these groups sessions except for them to claim that they are actively treating people, and it makes no sense that all people with depression and anxiety are lumped together as opposed to having their individual problems treated. The rest of the time is spent watching movies in the community room or trying to sleep in order to be awake as little time during your stay. I could go on and on with this review such as how my first day and night was spent in the drug recovery unit with heroin users and crystal meth addicts (the only drug I have done is marijuana three times at age 16, and, besides, I was at the hospital for anxiety and depression), I was told before I signed in that my insurance would cover the cost, only to find out on the second day, that I would owe them close to five thousand dollars for my stay. I told them that I am broke and they were asking details about my car, whether my parents would help pay for this etc. I'm going to stop this review here even though I could go on forever about this place. This facility is exactly the opposite from most mental health facilities in the region. They really care. True, the furnishings are typical psych unit furnishings, but there is minimal/ no use of restraint or seclusion that I could see, and I was there a week. The doctor quickly identified that I was refractory to most medications and recommended me for ECT. The ECT staff is nothing short of awesome. From the MD's on down to the techs, they really work to see you improve and they are genuinely happy to see you do so. If I could give less than one star, I would. Do NOT go here. Try Florida hospital instead. You will only get about 75% of the therapy you're promised and will likely spend a lot of time on the swings outside or coloring, you will not get your money's worth! My 25 year old son is currently there for over a week now. He was transferred from La Amistad where he was there for almost 2 months then transferred with no one telling me. I had to look on my insurance notification to find out. These two facilities are owned by the same person and sister corporations. This is just a money scam at the expense of other human beings mental heath. Dr Mendez has not once called me even after my son begging him to and me constantly calling Steven who I spoke to twice. He finally gave me the number to Tim a nursing supervisor. They have my son on a cocktail of the wrong medications. I have repeatedly told all of them what he should be on. I also asked for any other doctor but Mendez as he feels it is not important to get a family history and loved ones involved. I call the unit floor and the phone just rings and rings. There is no communication and this has to be the worst run facility I have ever encountered. If they care about the patient they would get family involved and yes my son did sign a release. He was crying this morning on the phone because Dr Mendez keeps threatening him with discharge rather than getting him on the correct medication and calling me for treatment and discharge plans. I am considering getting an attorney and having him moved to a place that really cares and WANTS the patient to get better. I will be happy to post later if this situation changes as my family and I are living a nightmare. I would give zero stars!!! Keep your loved ones out of here. read more

They are useless, they do not promote family involvement what so ever. They keep their patients virtually incommunicated with family members or loved one. They only allow visits 2 times a week Thurdays 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 pm and Saturday one hours in the afternoon. They don't allow patience to recived inbound calls directly like in other facilities or make outbound calls. If you want to reach your love one you need o go thru the nurse. My loved was theit for two days and told me its the most intimidating place.... Some of the staff are nice but not all of them.... and they really tell you next to nothing about the program.. Its a nice placed but too easy to get victimized in the placed where no family interaction in encourage and patients are kept away from family. read more

Basically almost had to get a lawyer involved because they wouldn't let me leave after I was put in there by mistake. Confided in the wrong Doctor, she thought I was suicidal even though I wasn't. The staff were so sketchy and never directly answer your questions, the whole thing was so weird and eerie. I was so upset one night because I had been there for 2 days already and I started crying and asking and basically begging them to let me leave and she told me that "outbursts" like these will only keep me here longer. I couldn't believe it. Sometimes during the day I would just lay in bed because I didn't want to talk to anyone, and they told me that it would also keep me in there longer and they said I needed to interact with the other patients if I wanted to leave. So apparently you can't cry, nap, or be a quiet person if you want to leave. Someone told me that they WILL hold you there for months if they want to. It took 4 days and 3 nights for me to finally be released. Maybe this place could be great for people with deeper and worse mental illnesses. But if you're looking into checking in somewhere because you feel a little depressed this is not it. They will keep you there even when you know you're okay and you want to leave. read more

HORRIBLE!!! My son (15 years old) was voluntary admitted for 8 days and Not ONCE did we see or speak to a doctor. We asked him to call several times and he did not. SHAME on you DR. Quadir!! How can you be so concerned about children, yet NEVER talk or speak to their parents. Maybe you should find a different field. This might be routine to you, but this was the FRIST time we put our son in a hospital, we deserved to be informed!!!!! Most of the staff did not smile, did not acknowledge us and seem desensitized to the entire process. RN Donna said she would call us back about visiting and let us know one way or another...she never called. The head Counselor orf my son was gone 3 out of the 8 days he was there. New counselor didn't k ow what was happening. His DC was postponed because of "transportation issues" Yet not one staff member called us about this. We called, and called and were lucky if anyone called us back and when they did they didn't know anything. There is not much help for families in central florida, but this place was so BAD!! On the day my Son was released a women we never meet or talk to came to the LOBBY and had my husband sign papers REALLY!!! What a horrible experience, I wish this on know body. read more
