My tuck broke down on the side of I-35 just north of Story City, IA on our way from Kansas City, MO to Floodwood, MN. BJ the driver picked us up and was able to tow us back to Story City Ford. BJ was incredibly helpful and friendly, and even went so far as to run me down to the local NAPA auto parts store and get a part that we thought would fix it, and then proceeded to help us replace the part. BJ definitely deserves at least an at-a-boy or a raise, very professional. The tow bill was a little more than I was expecting but well worth the money for the amount of assistance given by BJ. read more

DO NOT EVER use this business! the DISPATCH sent the diver to wrong town when we spelled the town name THREE TIMES! They where 2 and a half hours late! They quoted me one price then charged me higher because of the DISPATCHERS SCREW UP! They are very unprofessional in handling their mistake and I am very disappointed in how this was handled. The gentleman who towed my car was extremely kind and thoughtful. He arrived much quicker than the initial time estimate. Before towing my car he advised us to call ahead to make sure the place we were going had the correct tire size, which we found out they didn't. While we found a new place that was still open after 5pm on a Sunday and got our service changed to go to the new place he loaded my car up. Once we were all sorted, off we went and he even called the service place to let them know we'd be making it on time, as they gave me a tight deadline to arrive by in order to be serviced. He allowed me to ride along with him and my vehicle to the local car dealership. It took less than 30 minutes from the time I called and when Bobby unloaded my car at the dealership. Yikes!! Today, wife goes in to Ames on Lincoln and car conveniently dies right outside Central Iowa Towing. Apparently the cold stuck the gas gauge so that it didn't show an empty tank. Wife calls me up for some help, tells me she's stuck right outside the towing company, so I tell her to call them up and have them deliver some gas since that might be the problem. The guy tows her to the shop (100 feet away, mind you) because he didn't have a gas can (weird). He then fills up the gas enough for her to get to the gas station right down the street (maybe another 200 feet away). We get charged some $55. The whole service, in total, took no more than 10 minutes according to my phone conversation time-stamps with my wife. $55 in ten minutes! I'm surprised at the amount for such a quick and easy service (throw a bone?). I call them up to ask why they made such an easy $55. I get Kristin (maybe spelled differently, or not her name at all) on the phone. Asked her about the work order she just received, and she acts fuzzy minded about it. After "reminding" her the service they provided not but 5 minutes prior, I ask where they came up with that number. She doesn't know. I ask is it on their website or validated somewhere else? She doesn't know. It's just their standard rate. I ask if there is record for how much gas they put in our car? No. She then tell's me they didn't charge us for the gas, and they didn't charge for the towing. She tries diverting my questions as if they provided us with some value deal. If there is a standard rate, then why suggest there is additional cost for the gas and for a tow that was unneeded? My wife wasn't stuck in the snow, engine wasn't broken, and she was immobile right outside their towing shop with a gas station a football field distance away. The only thing my wife needed was a way to get a bit of gas from that gas station in to the car mere feet away. I had composure--asking questions without hostility. What really gets me going is how the customer service lady (Kristin) is handling our conversation. She's talking in a way as if she knows they ripped my wife off. Kristin interrupts my questions with things like "We could have charged you for these other things, but we didn't," and, "She (my wife) called, and we provided her a service." I can't tell you how many times this lady talks over me while I'm trying to understand the reasoning of their decision making. My wife knows little about car stuff and I can see her an easy target to make a quick buck off the situation. Kristin was obviously done with the conversation once it started and further antagonized by asking, "Is there anything else I can do for you," still interrupting my sentences. I tell her I'm going to write a review about this and she states, "Go ahead. Is there anything else?" Incredible response. From my side, I'm not raising my voice, I'm not cursing, I'm not attacking her being in any way. My entire side of the conversation was kept towards questions about the service provided (and her customer service) and understanding how they decided the charge (at least as much as she would let me get out). I've written maybe 10 reviews in my life and all of them were good reviews for products I thoroughly enjoyed. I was hands-down floored by how this all went. This company is obviously not keeping up with times in how businesses are handling value contribution to their customers. Profits must have been good for far too long to think acting in this way is acceptable. read more

Very prompt and efficient service by the tower, Bubbles! The dispatch and billing departments however are dishonest. Needed a tow on a Sunday evening. Received the invoice by email on Monday. It had the wrong year listed and no last name, which was need for insurance purposes. Called on Tuesday to get that changed. No problem there. Received a voicemail from Molly for payment on Wednesday. I called Thursday to make a payment over the phone, since they don't take checks. The charge went up by over $16 dollars. Kayla told me that every day the invoice sits, it goes up. She also claimed that I was told this, but I was not. It was never mentioned in the email, or on the invoice, or in the voicemail. So, no surprise that the customer would be upset. Will never use their service again and would never recommend this place to anybody. Unless you like getting screwed over and ripped off. read more

Found ourselves stranded on I-35 South of Ames last evening, Saturday night. Called for a tow from Central Iowa Towing. They arrived quickly, towed our car to our mechanic in Boone and dropped us at home. Young man was great at his job, quick, and pleasant company. Zack was friendly, helpful and super patient while waiting for AAA confirmation, and I'm thankful that he made a stressful situation more manageable. I selected 5 stars because that was the maximum number available. Coasting down exit 164 toward Newton, Iowa at 3 pm Sunday December 22nd with no steering and no brakes because my alternator failed and I had no power I found myself 5 hours from home enroute to Kansas City Missouri facing a dilemma. After calling my insurance company to secure a tow, I was directed to Central Iowa Towing and Recovery; a bit later a young man named Steven Kibbee descended on me not unlike a white knight driving the cleanest flatbed recovery vehicle I have had the pleasure of setting my Ford Ranger onto. Pleasant, respectful, knowledgeable and happily, a Newton native, Steven proceeded to load my truck and head to the garage as directed by the insurance company. Unsatisfied with what he saw, he called his shop (of course he followed protocol) and suggested I instead be taken to Barney's for the service work. That wasn't enough. Steven unloaded my truck, directed me to the key drop box and then offered to take me to the nearest hotel for the night (deemed five stars by Steven...his Dad stays there) where he proceeded to wait for me until I was safe for the night. Wow. Beyond being thrilled and satisfied I was floating on a cloud as this experience demonstrated to me the world does in fact have young men in their late twenties who are family men (a wife and three little ones at home) honest, hard working and thoroughly dedicated to their profession whose number one priority is taking care of people (Steven has also been a fire fighter for 7 years). Steven could not say enough good about his boss and the company and being a lover of all things trucks, we swapped some great stories. I had the merriest of Christmases and thank you, thank you to Central Iowa Towing and Recovery...you are saints. read more
