Their new location has much more space and they have really utilized the space well. The room for our class was large and had comfortable seating. They are sticklers for rules and timeframes. Many of us arrived 10 minutes early the way the letter directed us to but they wouldn't let us in until 9am on the dot. Wow! That was unbelievable. The guard stood at the door looking menacing barking and stating you have to wait! Everyone was perplexed because the instructor stated late comers would not be admitted to the class. What a mess. I think the library needs to rethink how they approach people who register for classes in the library. Overall a quick walkthrough of the library was pleasant. Bathrooms are very clean and smell clean. I don't know if the pressure of the crowd early in the morning intimidated the worker or guard but some employee training needs to happen there because it was ridiculous. I do like the layout of the new library and receptacles for different collections in the lobby. Once they've completely moved in I think it'll be awesome.

I mean, what's not to love about this place?…read more The library is way more than books nowadays. You can rent movies, music, and even gaming consoles and other tech. You can get museum passes for locations on LI and NYC. ALL FOR FREE. (provided you register for a card in your local area). Even for a fee there's events your parents can attend, kid events. A park nearby, and a pristine building with free wifi, AC and a wonderful staff. Support your local library y'all!

Yes I still go to libraries to borrow books and I still mail letters through the post office…read more#oldfashioned They redid this library a few years ago because when I first moved into the area I don't even remember this building being here. Or maybe it was it just didn't have a sign? Anyway it's fabulous now. This branch of the Smithtown library has a large kids area and tons of computers for you to use in the center of the library. Everyone that works here has always been super helpful and friendly. They have a lot of activities for the children and I've seen tutoring signs for the teens. I've even donated blood during a blood drive hosted by the library. It's a great place to get some work done if you get too easily distracted in your home (me).

The Smithtown Library also has three smaller branches (Kings Park, Commack and Nesconset) under it. It has changed quite a bit since I was a kid, but it such a beautiful way. For me it personally it brought back so many fond memories! This Library (And the Kings Park branch) helped opened my world to wonder, curiosity and discovery. EVERYONE should be so lucky!! I recommend "checking out" this public library. You'll be in for a treat.

There is no problem stopping here on this slow street to browse the library. Exterior and interior are very good and they have a light inside which is cool. Two shelves are neatly stacked and almost full. Today's content was mostly children's books, paperbacks and one hardcovers. The paperbacks look like beach reading material. Visited for a holiday event. Lots of vendors selling a variety of items. From soaps, jewelry,…read morechocolate and Boy Scouts selling wreaths. They had most of the vendors inside the barn or whatever it was and it was pretty cramped. We had to squeeze past people a few times. We browsed around and walked outside. It is situated on lots of land. Walk down the path and you'll see a still in use come the Spring, an old time baseball field. Keep walking and there's a farm. The kids enjoyed seeing and petting the horse, and sheep. There were chickens too. I would like to return when we can learn more about the property and the various houses on it. When you're standing on the one path, you're set back away from Main Street and it feels like you're transported back in time. The 3 star review was based on the holiday event we went to after thanksgiving.

Have been attending the Hauppauge Campus (with visits to Garden City when required) since 2014 when I completed my AAS degree at SCCC. The satellite campus offers up real personalized education. And after 5 years, it's like family. Downside= $$$. A hefty price per credit from this private university. Yes, there are scholarships to be had if you endeavor to submit application. Some caveats I've noticed to be eligible for scholarships is that 1) you must attend full time 2) be proactive in all things Adelphi or 3) bi-lingual. As a mom, 600 hour intern, FT employee & PT student... mama doesn't have the time to sift through what's available (my own doing, not the school) The smaller class sizes at Adelphi Hauppauge really give you personalized attention and that is priceless. Knowing your professors and administrators personally and having carte blanche capabilities to communicate with them whenever needed is truly a blessing. Walking away with a BSW & MSW in Social Work from such a prestigious, accredited university.... priceless.

Adding onto my post from earlier!!…read more Adelphi requires their students to take an unbelievable amount of pre requisites (2 arts, 2 global, 2 humanities, 2 communication) I was taking about 16-17 credits per semester on top of my required nursing pre-reqs. I have had about 50/50 of professors I loved and hated. If I had known this would be my experience at Adelphi I would have gone to Molloy!! Molloy also has an amazing nursing program and I believe is a bit cheaper than Adelphi in terms of tuition. Hofstra, NYIT and LIU Post are all nearby. Seniors in high school, please do your research on colleges you think of attending. I can't wait to graduate and never have to step foot into the school again or deal with the terrible staff.

We got a Groupon for this place, which makes the price a lot more reasonable. They don't open until…read more1 pm on the weekends, and on Saturdays they don't even give guided tours. Instead, they give an "augmented reality" audio tour which is kind of hit or miss. The house was preserved for the historical significance of the Townsend family, one of which was a spy for George Washington. I didn't feel there was a ton of information on the family though. Pointing their phone at the different objects in a room turned on audio about them, but only a couple of rooms in the actual house were interactive. The rest didn't have signs, and one loan employee was around to answer questions at the end. The exhibit in the visitor center was nice though. I just don't think the AR experience was really up to replacing a person, both in amount of information and the uncanny valley, unnerving portraits. There is street parking and a nearby lot that are free on weekends. The gift shop is minimal. It was an okay spot to visit, but I would recommend coming on Sunday or whenever they offer actual tours to get a more thorough understanding of the house and the history of the people who lived here.

The…read morehelpful staff took out modest admission fee and explained that they don't do tours on Saturdays but they do have tour devices using augmented reality. That means that when you walk through the buildings, you scan the cell phone device on important paintings and artifacts and they talk to you with further information about who or what they are. The small building that contains the entrance is packed with paintings, dioramas, documents and artifacts. Next you walk to the main house, built in the 1730's, and housing the Townsend family. At the time of the Revolutionary War, Samuel had to make room for a British colonel. In spite of the fact that he sympathised with the patriots, he maintained good relations with his "Guest." At the time of the war, the house had eight rooms. One of his sons was one of the leaders of the Culpepper Spy Ring, Placing the home on the National Registry of Historic Places. Each room was elegantly decorated, with the exception of the space for the enslaved housekeeper. In spite of the fact that we didn't get a formal tour, the staff member tagged along with us and kept up a spirited conversation - even giving us a bonus look at the Victorian wing which doubled the size of the structure.
