They remodeled since my past days here to a more modern design aesthetic. Plenty of programs for children and adults, along with events. A multitude of book categories for those who like to read. There's a little patio with a fountain that's also very relaxing. The new cafe is such a plus. Offer the standard coffees, but also rotating specialty latte flavor. Very cheap prices. Also some small snacks that are really cheap as well (individual candy for 10¢, chips for 75¢ etc) overall very well-kept, bright, heartwarming place to be.

The two women behind the desk in the children's room were noticeably unfriendly and unapproachable. Their unnecessary comments and disapproving looks toward the toddlers' normal play behavior created an uncomfortable atmosphere. A children's area should be a place that encourages joy, learning, and community -- not one where families feel unwelcome.

Nestled in East Setauket, my children (as well as myself) grew up attending wonderful programs (summer reading, endless DIY crafts, paint nights, tech help, etc.), checking out a variety of resources (books, magazines, dvds, cds, etc.), finding a quiet place to read and/or study, getting help and advice from welcoming librarians, viewing interesting exhibits, meeting up with friends, and so much more! And even though my children are all grown up now, I still regularly find my way back here ... Most recently, they have opened a terrace for all to enjoy! On a bit of a roadtrip down the Connecticut coast, we arrived in New Haven a little after 3pm, and…read moreI knew I had only had a little time before things/attractions closed at 5pm. So after hitting the Yale Center for British Art, we speed walked (sped walked?) over to the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library. Why? Google it and you'll understand when you see the pictures. Beinicke is Yale's rare book and manuscript library - not their main university library or their law library. The reading room is open to registered researchers only, but the public are welcome to visit the library's exhibition hall. And everyone visiting New Haven should! The library was built in 1963, and the the architecture is incredible. The building is a granite veneer shell, fastened to a structural steel frame. Inside that structure is a glass-enclosed tower of book cases. The granite was milled to 1.25 inches thick to allow filtered daylight in - in the afternoon/early evening, the marble turned an amber color. We walked back past it at night for a different view of the building. It is really incredible architecture, and the library hosts exhibits you can see in the exhibition hall when you visit to enjoy the building (when we visited, the exhibit was "Taught By the Pen: The World of Islamic Manuscripts"). The building is incredible and definitely worth a visit if you're exploring the Yale campus!

The general public has limited access, and this will be a short stop for most people, depending upon the exhibit. Let's be honest--most people stop by for a photo op, for the architecture and the huge column of books. I got a few great photos, got to say I've seen it, and it's cool. Worthwhile. New modern bright large quiet library full of books, I was able to find a very rare study test book…read morei needed so I called to see if I could borrow being that I am not a direct member but only a Suffolk County Librarian Card holder the reference supervisor approved a short term loan out to me. So impressed how beautiful all of our north shore community libraries are worth all the tax dollars we spend honestly. They offer trips educational classes computers and a worked if free books on and off line. Plus coffee cafes

Call me a weirdo or old fashioned or something else (no expletives) but I just love a good library…read more Growing up on Long Island in Nassau County had me frequenting one (or two) specific locations, though I had popped into other book havens within the area and always found them comforting. Though I never really had the chance to enter a Suffolk County library until I moved to Ronkonkoma and learned that my home library is the media Mecca that is Sachem. If you're at all familiar with the Best of LI awards that are divvied out each year, then you'll know that Sachem Public Library has almost exclusively won this accolade over the past decade. I honestly never cared too much about this fact because Sachem seemed so far, but now my newish abode is only 5 minutes away from this superb book spot. Even before I ever entered Sachem Library's doors I was already impressed. That's because I feared it would take some time to get a library card with my change of address and needing an updated license. Nope! Sachem allows you to register for a library card on their website and then they'll send you this little key chain library card tag to your home. I was amazed by this, and already excitedly looking forward to my first trip there. This came over the summer when they were in full swing of their reading programs, both for kids and adults. Even though the event was halfway over, I was able to easily sign up and was given a little welcome bag and a chance to win some prizes for my reading. Unfortunately, I was a little too busy this past summer to read at a speedy clip (wedding planning will do that to you), but this just added to the enjoyment of Sachem. When actually exploring the interior and what Sachem has to offer, there are tons of books, movies, video games, and programs available. I'm also massively impressed with Suffolk County's digital borrowing program over Nassau as well as what's out there to be inter-loaned from other Suffolk libraries to Sachem. My first trip there was to actually pick up a couple of movies I had ordered and came in for pickup quite quickly. That trip, the summer sign up, and my experiences since have also all resulted in friendly staff and a desire to return again and again. Overall, maybe libraries are a little outdated or they feel like something you haven't visited in years, but I promise you that Sachem Public Library has so much to offer (I forgot to mention the beautiful serene garden across the parking lot that you can walk through and read in!). It's easy to see why Sachem wins awards each year and effortlessly puts other libraries to shame (like my hometown one, sorry not sorry). So consider this library weirdo somebody who will continue to love Sachem.

Like a walk in the park We love to come around and visit…read moreevery now and then, take the ferry and visit for a day . The peace and the view its a complete package. Walk around in the shops visiting the area and try new things its just good.

It's apx an hours ferry from Bridgeport to Port Jefferson and worth every minute…read more This is such a cute quaint Village with shops, restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream, a sandy shore, cafes, with some being water front with great views. We especially enjoyed the olive oil/balsamic vinegar store. It's completely walkable with tons of pedestrian crosswalks. One day was not enough to explore all it has to offer. There are also public restrooms, so always helpful.
