I got my notice for jury duty and began calling in daily to see if my group number was needed. Day three I was to report. I parked in the stadium lot P1 like the notice says. There's plenty of signs telling jurors where to park. I can't believe how many people parked in the wrong place and had to move their car. The summons has the lot address, everyone has a phone. Google it if you're not sure. I was able to check in outside online while waiting for the doors to open. A Sheriff instructed everyone to remove anything metal from their body before going through the metal detector. So many people didn't and this held up the line a bit. These are probably the same people that parked in the wrong lot. Once in the Juror room on the 3rd floor I took a Juror badge and took a seat. They had goodie bags, bottle water, coffee, and pastries since it was Jurors Appreciation Week. Before the orientation videos several judges look time from their courtroom to come to the jury assembly room to show their appreciation. Senator Umberg was also there. It was nice to see all these people. It was a slow day. Not many courtrooms needed jurors. My name wasn't called. Many of us were let go earlier than expected. read more

Got the golden ticket aka a jury duty summons! Had to report in person (because apparently "I have reservation at Disneyland" isn't a valid excuse). Followed directions and parked in P1 for that sweet free parking with validation, small wins where we can get them. You get $15 a day if selected for jury. Checked in around 7:45am, armed with snacks and false optimism. Waited until noon only to be told I wasn't selected. Honestly? Best plot twist of the day. Walked out with my official "you did your civic duty" receipt and a 12-month pass to freedom. The courthouse café was okay. Grabbed a meat-free breakfast burrito that tasted like responsibility, edible but forgettable. Still, 4 stars for efficiency, free parking and the joy of not being picked! read more

I got the lovely notice in the mail to serve my civic duty. This is not my first time here so I kind of knew where I needed to go. In order to get your parking validated, you need to make sure you park at the right structure. This said structure is a few mins walking to the courthouse so make sure you come early enough for that walk. Their security to get in is not too bad, you place small items in bins and go through metal detector, similar to the airport. The security staff were friendly. The waiting room I big with chairs to sit and wait, cubicles if you bring a laptop or want to eat and shared tables in the back. In that room there are 2 microwaves. I was lucky enough to get called in one of the first groups and for lunch I decided to go to their cafeteria. I grabbed a salad and chips from the grab and go fridges as the lines get long you pay for your dressing separately. I described this salad as an ok but mostly sad expensive salad. Bring your own food if possible! Or you can try to go somewhere. The food was ok just not good. read more

I expected to be chosen today once again, However, the turnout was great, and the majority were not needed of potential jurors for the day. The line was very long outside as you could see by the pictures, then finally somebody came out and said if you're a juror, there is a much faster line on the left side. I did my jury service here. It was surprisingly painless and I found the voir dire process absolutely fascinating. There is a specified parking lot for jurors to park in which has ample parking and about 2-3 blocks from the courthouse. The courthouse is a bit dated but very clean, organized, and spacious. Government buildings always feel safe and comfy! -1 star for the lady at jury services who gave me attitude for no reason when I politely asked her if I needed to keep my jury duty summons postcard after it was scanned. Lady, your job is to answer questions in a room with AC. You are amazingly blessed. Realize it and act like it. read more

I was there yesterday and today for the first time ever. I have to admit that my expectations were low in terms of treatment by the employees. I couldn't have been more wrong. I went to the self help section where this human being, a small female presenting with beautiful long black hair and eyelashes, looked through my paperwork, gave me the missing forms and sent me to the clerk's office. I wish I asked her her name to thank her properly. Yes the clerk's office, the wait was ridiculous especially today Friday. But yesterday Maya helped with grace, patience and a smile. I submitted the paperwork. Today I realized that I didn't submit supporting documents. I went back. It was an exercise in human patience. Only two stations were open. Later they opened more stations and Quintanillo helped me. Although he was mostly dry and non smiling, I don't blame him, he still fixed my paperwork, did what he had to do and the extra paperwork was added. Thank you all for your help. Large-scale Richard Neutra building, a prominent Modernist Architect who has many small and large works in Southern California. Architecture review only and not for the services or Justice Center inhabiting the building now. The scale is unbelievable and I found myself craning my neck repeatedly just trying to take it all in, I came on a Saturday when the building was closed and I was the only person walking around. A forward-thinking and prominent feature are the solar-blocking louvres that are moveable to shield the worst of the cali sun and provide a cooler inside climate by creating shade and having the louvres instead of the walls absorb heat. They line the buildings in the most minimal way possible and I appreciate the simplicity. Another interesting detail are the walls all have some sort of texture or pattern on them, unique for Neutra. It's depressing now honestly. At the front entrance are two rocks stuck into the ground, a reflection pool use to be here and there used to be water-filled fountains and pools that gave the building some life and soothing sounds. They've been drained and dismantled for a very long time now just leaving brutal concrete and cold lines. read more

Wow...shockingly good reviews for a courthouse...particularly a courthouse that, rather than have TRO clients sit on either side of the court room or the other...they have an asinine check in process and allow both parties of what are commonly known as "ex parte domestic violence protection orders" wait in the lobby, awkwardly, and passive aggressively. They stick to "covid" court room rules for seemingly no reason. On the plus side, there is a court room that has like every star wars Lego set; built and in a display case...no joke. Very psyched to see tax dollars go to a confusing, ocd collection of fully put together, expensive children's toys. I will say this, during the almost 2 hour lunch u will definitely have between sitting in the waiting room with your opposing party and the following 2 hours you will spend there...you are walking distance from a Dave and busters!! And weekdays at 1pm is the best time to get lit and play some video games without any kids around and then return to an adversarial situation after winning a mini football. Honestly who the f$#k gave this 3 stars? Not only is it a courthouse but it is an absolutely negligently mismanaged one. read more

Writing my review as a person who was called in for Jury Duty. You park at a parking structure about a 5-min walk away (1 block across the stadium). No other parking structure will be fully validated. Cafeteria food was aiiiiiight. Cafeteria food that fills you up when necessary and you don't want to get outside food. My only tick was the organization of the places. The assembly waiting area is alright. Individual work stations along the sides of the back, but with this day in age with many people working remote and having laptops, there should be more. Along with that, I think the waiting/sitting area of the court areas in the higher levels should be better thought out. As we waited for the bailiff to give instruction after we were filling out or paperwork about us and the assigned trial, a lot of people (especially elderly) were forced to stand up or sit on the floor along the walls of the hallway. Back at it again. And guess who's bored? Hi, everyone! So... the person I was 6 years ago clearly isn't the person I am today. Geez, they were so sassy... borderline spiteful. However, I will say that I don't take anything back. Hahaha. They actually started on time. 8:00 AM. In fact, I was the person that was late. Fifteen minutes. I do recommend coming a little early to find the right parking structure or if you're confused about directions. (I got lost and parked in the wrong structure). They have convenient online check-in for jurors, so that's pretty cool. Efficient and faster rather than waiting in lines. Oh, and they have a TV for movies, so that's new. My Tesla car got keyed when I parked on the 4th floor on Thursday 10/19/2023 juror parking lot on 1020 civic center drive, so I am giving a 1 star due to this experience. JURY DUTY time ...... Did not know what to expect since I haven't been to jury duty in a long time. Surprisingly, it was a very pleasant & inviting (YES, inviting!) experience. The Jury Waiting Room is located on the 3rd floor (take 2 escalators) behind the cafeteria (that's very convenient). The room is humungous, seating about 500 ppl. Comfortable seats (cushiony, not hard plastic). Plenty of restrooms. Food is decently priced, but breakfast goes fast and once the kitchen runs out, that's IT! The first person who came out was a judge, who thanked everyone who came & described why the judges & litigants are so appreciative we were here to serve (nice touch, never seen that before). Then the jury room staff came out to give the Orientation presentation that lasted 30 minutes. If you did not listen, you would definitely miss some very important points that will affect how you would be called (to serve or be dismissed thus fulfilling your jury duty). The atmosphere was very low-key, friendly, and accommodating. I would not mind returning to this location for future jury duty call. Happy Jury Duty and Fight On! p.s. This review focuses on what happens when you get picked for jury duty. The jury duty experience was a roller coaster ride of stress, bewilderment, raw emotion and careful analysis, but by the end of it I left with a deep respect for our judicial system. I was on a criminal case which was very disturbing, but Judge Jules Bailey was very cognizant in that he knew when it was time to take breaks, he called the lawyers out when things were taking a little too long (but not in a mean way), and was very respectful of not only everyone's time, but also their role in making this run as smoothly as possible. He was also very upfront about being a little deaf which made for a few chuckles that helped break up the serious atmosphere in the room. Our bailiff Brian was also very positive, professional and polite to us from day 1 and greeted everyone with a smile and good morning or good night. I spent 8 days here and here's what I learned: - ELEVATORS: they're slow and packed and it's better if you start from the first floor if you need to go up. - SMOKING - There's a smoking section on the third floor patio - SECURITY - A line can form if there's issues at security and potentially make you late. - PARKING - Park on the 4th or 5th floor in the structure off Boyd and Civic Center, not at the actual building. The parking validation machines are on the third floor after 10 a.m. and are taken away at 5 p.m. - DRESS CODE - I dressed super casual for jury selection and saw some people dressed like they were lawyers themselves! Once I was selected for the case I wore my normal business casual attire I would wear to work. Also, it's like a different sort of fashion show here with all the suits and women in skirts and heels. I don't believe there's a dress code, but mostly everyone here is dressed nice. - CASE NUMBER - If you're interested in the case, make sure to take the case number down so you can see what the outcome was (as far as sentencing) later. - FOOD - Yes there's a cafeteria on the third floor and once I ordered a grilled cheese and fries, but they took too long making it so I had to leave to get back. There's a microwave in the juror room and I'd suggest bringing food from home to save time. I had no issues with the building and thought it was nostalgic and liked that it had character and you will too if you serve on a jury! read more

My first and WORST jury duty experience. Someone had covid symptoms so everyone including me is now exposed!! Because of this, I'm sick and I'm experiencing covid symptoms... Also, NO ONE checked our temperatures when we arrived so we don't even know who has covid or not. They DID NOT check whether or not we were vaccinated. And there was BARELY hand sanitizer inside the whole building! Also, their was NO SOCIAL DISTANCING in the court room. Everyone was sitting right next to each other or 2 feet away from each other. I'm very angry and disappointed because our health should be priority! But it seems like they don't care. read more

Juror parking is in the Stadium lot only and is easy to find just be sure you follow the street signs around the courthouse to the parking stricture. I don't believe for a minute jury duty is as random as they claim... I get chosen every year and every year get stuck on a trial. How much fun can you have at jury duty? NOT THAT MUCH! To sum it up you get to miss a day or more of work (if you work for a cool company they will pay you if not your SOL!) you get here early only to find lines to stand in once through the line you get to sit around for a good wile in a old movie theater type chair watching Family Feud and other game shows until they decide to call your name if your lucky enough to even have them call it. When attending for jury duty make sure you park in the stadium lot and that your parking ticket says stadium on it, because that's the lot you can park for free in just remember to bring your parking ticket so you can have it validated! Speaking of the validation machines they put them out at the Windows after a little bit so once you see them get it validated because the line can get super long and confusing for it because they put the machines like right outside the Windows where everyone has to go to ask them anything by this I mean there is not really an organization of a line to get them validated because half the people are just going to the window to find out how much more interesting their day can get! If you haven't been inside the building before just follow the signs upstairs to the jury room you can't miss all of them so it makes it kinda easy to find where your going. One of the good things is they let you bring pretty much anything you will need in for a fun filled day of the American justice system. So bring your computer or phone or whatever you want to fulfill your sitting time with and some snacks to much on. If you don't bring anything to eat you can go to the cafeteria that's feet away from the Jury Room for anything that you might wanna eat or drink. Pretty much I've never really had any faith in organized government and after my visit today my belief is furthered as every time going to court has been a complete and total waste of my time for some pointless reason someone felt I needed to go pay money to the government. Today wasn't any exception i showed up at the time I was supposed to checked in and had a seat in the first seat of second row from the podium closest to the Windows as that's a good spot that makes it easy to hear if they call your name or if you need to make a trip to the window your right there. Pretty much I just chilled in that seat the whole time wasting away at the boredom of my day only to find that when the lunch break finally came a roll call was taken and my name was not announced as this came as a shock to me as I had been there the entire time. So what to do in another brilliant government involved situation? Here is exactly what I did headed straight to the window only to find that my name had been called before to go to one of the court rooms? What's this? My name you called it no you didn't as i sat in the same seat the whole time right in front of your announcement podium. Sir we called your name several times, no you didn't I was here the whole time and heard nothing of my name being called, ok we are going to have to add you back to the jury pool to be called again. Oh great more time wasted or not as just then they let us go as they didn't need any more jurors for the day which was super awesome to get the hell out of there! So after wasting half the day and pretty much being called a liar I was able to leave knowing that I have at least a year tell I might have to have another pointless drama filled day of the American justice system! read more

My first jury duty in this court house. Thanks to my fellow yelpers. I was prepared :). Thanks you all!! Sum up a few items you should know if you are a first time juror here. 1. Park in the Stadium Parking Lot. It is right next to Santa Ana Stadium. The parking ticket will have the word 'stadium' on it. It is free if you get validated. Otherwise, it will cost you from $13-$20/ day depending on where you park. It's about a block from the courthouse. 2. It is ok to be a little late. Juror room is on the third floor. They started to greet us around 8am. And then started a briefing video on what juror should know. At this time you will be reminded to park in the stadium parking lot and come back to the juror room for validation after 10:30a. Since you are reading this, you won't be one of those people starting to leave to move their cars into the right lots! The calling of juror starts around 8:45am. 3. Bring reading material. I got there late around 9AM (call time is 7:45am) I recommend if you are late is to get there no later then 8:45AM-9AM. (Only if you are risky) They didn't say anything to me ‍ *They do first role call around 9ish I definitely recommend bringing snacks, your own lunch, and a laptop/headphones/chargers or a book to read. You will have time to get work done if you aren't called right away. I highly recommend you bring your own food. Unless you are getting paid to be there. .. My work did not pay for me to be absent so therefore I was always losing money. Not going to add more money on the table to lose. Bring a sweater if you get cold easily. The temperature ranges throughout the day. It was hot then cold then hot . There is many tips you can find on Yelp and their personal website. The best thing you can do, is prepare your mind to have a good mindset. Honestly if you go in frustrated because you are there, you will have a bad time. They scheduled a hearing with less than a week's notice and I LIVE ALMOST 7 HOURS AWAY IN SACRAMENTO! Wtf?!! What part of, you have THE WRONG PERSON! DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND? There's no way I can afford to take off work and travel on such short notice and during a PANDEMIC no less! Why should I have to risk my health and bank account to travel to a part of the state with THE MOST Covid-19 cases because of their screw up?! To make matters worse, the court is CLOSED the whole week so I cannot talk with anyone prior to this hearing and their website support people are useless. Even confirmed with the sheriffs department that they have different info, yet this court is getting my information somehow. TERRIBLE! read more

My case was heard by Commissioner Glenn Mondo who did not apply the law when deciding the case. I provided copies of the two statutes that clearly stated the defendant had violated the law. The Commissioner did not refer to the law, simply stated the defendant was more believable.I Believable or not, he violated current law. I do NOT understand why a court of law would not apply applicable laws. Very disillusioned by this failure to enforce the law. The money is lost to me but I will be elevating this so that Commissioner Glenn Mondo at least has to acknowledge he ignored relevant law. A Jury duty summons is one thing that a lot of people would love to overlook. However it is our civic duty to serve. They say most cases can be resolved in about 5 days. However the ones I have been on have always been much longer than that. So your in a court room, what happens next? The judge will greet you and give a short overview of the case. Then randomly about 24 possible jurors are called up. The first 14 seat in the juror box then the remaining sit in the front of the box. Usually you state your name, level of education, occupation and your hobbies/fun fact. Then slowly they weed out those top 14 and call more people to sit in the box. The judge or lawyers ask specific questions to get a better feeling of who you are. They will list a bunch of possible witnesses who you may know. They will ask opinions regarding prior experiences with the type of case and what it involves. This process can take a few hours. If you think you can get out of it for work reasons, lack of English or being uncomfortable think again. I will say if you are one of the first ones to be called up to the selection box you will probably have a 50 50 chance of staying. Dress code. I usually dress in business casual and heels just to show respect to all involved. Bring a jacket it because it does get cold in the courtrooms. read more

Talk about milking the clock as they do jury selection. 2 full days to pick a jury. Really? Dang. So many liars that make up sob stories to get out of jury duty. Nobody wanted to be here today and the things people say to get out of it. One guy had been here for 40 years in the country and a citizen for 20 years and still can't speak English! Wow. No wonder Trump won. 6 o clock new flash! If they paid more than 15 lousy dollars a day to do jury duty more people would be willing to sit in. Most of the people here had work. They said the trial would last 15 days. Who the hell can miss 15 days of work. Can they afford to pay jurors more? Yes of course. Stop wasting our tax dollars on stupid crap and pay the jurors more. We pay some of the highest taxes in the nation. We would save so much time. We wouldn't be spending 2 full days (Yes 2 full days) listening to people's BS stories as to why they can't do jury duty. And what these genius judges and lawyers can't seem to identify is that people are so restless and agitated by the end of the jury selection process that the jurors that do get selected are NOT going to be in a "mood to do my civic duty" and thus may not be objective in their final decision. And to the judges. Stop lecturing us about being on time in the morning and then you and your court clerks let us in 45 min after our required time in. Be a person of integrity and practice what you preach. If it's your first time be prepared to have at least one full day wasted, bring reading material, have your phone fully charged, and bring a jacket if you get cold easily. The court rooms are cold. There are phone charging areas on the 3rd floor of the main meeting room. PARKING: It's free if your a juror. Juror parking structure is down the street about 1/8 a mile on the 3rd and 4th floor. It's the only perk since $15.00 a day will barely cover lunch. FOOD: Not great but no terrible either. Prices are reasonable. To save time from the long lines getting back in the metal detectors I recommend eating in their cafe. Definitely a long and exhausting experience to say the least. read more

If you have a service animal, prepare to be humiliated going through security. I'm an attorney that makes appearances in this court regularly - like 2-3 times a month. You'd think they'd remember me since I bring my service animal with me every time; but, without fail, every time I go through security I get the obligatory "What service does your animal provide?" I'm not opposed to answering this question, but when I say she's a medical alert dog they look at me with this blank stare and request that I expound on this, like it's my fault they don't understand the words coming out of my mouth! Then there are the looks - the ones they give you and then each other. I have seriously never felt more unwelcome anywhere. It's absolutely horrible. Sometimes I consider not bringing her just to not deal with the bullshit; but I need her, so I have to put up with it. Someone should train these people in the art of tact and respect for people who require service animals. Just because she's not a seeing eye dog, doesn't make her any less of a service animal. The location is easy to find, but make sure to park in the Stadium parking structure which is a block away. There are signs pointing out juror parking! This is the only parking that is free when getting validated in the building. The juror assembly room is where you will spend most you day waiting to be called. It's a huge room with tons of seating, tables, and also work spaces around the edges. It's good to go find a seat near an outlet so you can keep your electronics charged. Food is right outside this room, and they have a decent selection. I had breakfast there and it was pretty good. Eggs, bacon, fruit, and choice is toast for under 6 bucks. First Time Jury Duty Wasn't sure what to expect but anticipated the experience would rank up there with dental surgery or first row seating of a Kenny G concert. The surprise was on me because the experience was overwhelmingly positive. Every employee I encountered was cheerful and helpful. Prior to entering the courtroom the Bailiff handed each (85 of us?) our badge, said "Good Morning" and "Thank you for Your Service." This went a long way in today's world. The Judge was helpful explaining the process and welcomed questions. Come with an open mind and be completely candid when the Attorneys or Judge ask questions. I volunteer for MADD and the case was a Vehicle Manslaughter while Intoxicated charge. I wanted to cry when they read the charges and knew I was too biased to be a fair and impartial juror. My Tips: Arrive by 7:45AM. Bring Snacks and a Laptop or Book to read. You spend a lot of time waiting. Courtroom can get chilly - bring a sweater. There is a decent cafeteria in the courthouse. The line gets very long so bring your lunch if you want to avoid waiting or want to save $. Again, come with an open mind and good attitude. Being bitter or negative won't help the experience.
