A big thank you to Richard at the counter for being so friendly, helpful, and efficient. The entire process went very smoothly, and everything was completed in about 20 minutes. Starting June 12, 2026, I officially became a California Notary Public for a four-year term! A quick note for anyone visiting: parking can be a little challenging. Richard mentioned there is a free parking lot behind the building, but I wasn't sure which one he meant, so I decided not to risk it and parked elsewhere. The ladies who instructed me to call the county assessors office to first obtain the book and page number were friendly and helpful. Had a good experience at the OC Clerk-Recorder. The one difficult aspect (which may have been totally my fault) was parking. I wasn't sure where exactly to park as there was a ton of construction at the time. I ended up parking on the street and thanks to luck, the meter still had some time in it. Upon walking in, someone waved me over to the information desk. I let the lady know I was there to submit/drop-off a marriage license. She asked for my name and number. She told me she would check me in and that my name would be called on the screen. The screen would also tell me which desk to go to. Once I sat down, I sat for just a few minutes before my name was called. I also received a text to my phone that told me which desk was ready for me. The system itself was very efficient! It reminded me of the DMV except much more organized, WAY faster, and the people seemed nicer. I made my way to desk 6 and the worker was quick and kind. Within a few minutes, she made a copy of my license. She took my paperwork and told me it would take a few days for the marriage certificate to be available. She said I could call the office to double check that it was ready. And when it was ready, I'd come back to pick it up. Easy peasy! I spent just a few minutes here. OC Clerk Office in the Dark Ages I went to order a copy of our home deed. First it was cumbersome to find my doc but I finally found it. But there was no image so I had to order a copy. I added it to the shopping cart but then found out that was just to print out a letter to mail to them with a check and self-addressed envelope. Why isn't this all online - espeically having to physical mail you a requests. This is the stuff Doge should fix (not that I'm a Doge fan) but I am a fan of inefficiency. Dirty mirror test, if this is so inefficient makes me think there are tons of things that are broken. read more

I submitted my passport in March when I have a trip in July. The processing time said 10-13 weeks which was enough time to receive my passport...NOT! 2 weeks before my trip I called the phone number listed in the passport website. They said I needed to call within 5 days to help me get an appointment. Then the 2nd call. I called 5 days before my trip and they said they had no appointments available for entire state. What was supposed to do now? After calling the same number multiple times, waiting for hours for a pick up only to tell me there was no more appointments, I was frustrated and disappointed about losing my trip. With 5 days left before my trip, Luckily I found Billy Le. I reached out to him to help me to get an appointment with the passport agency. and yes, I did. Had already filled out my forms online, prior to going in, so I was just there to pick up the official documents. Only had to walk up to the registration desk to confirm my identity and was then placed in the queue. Didn't wait more than 5 minutes before obtaining assistance. Lots of chairs available in the waiting area; and the place is very spacious and wasn't crowded at all. Lazy government employees were so eager to start their weekend at 4:31 pm they refused to help me obtain the document I urgently needed for my elderly parents. The girl told me "they had already announced that was their last customer for the day"-- wow! Must be nice to "work" like that! Funny they're still on the lock til 5 pm! This place is a disgrace. Super quick and processed my paperwork i. About a minute! The problem is the counter lady who I won't name here didn't scan all the pages. She then calls me after O had already given the paperwork to my copy saying she needed all of the original documents to re scan them. My wife even went there to provide the sheet she missed and was turned away because her supervisor wanted the "originals". I attended a Apostille pop-up event today in Santa Ana put on by the Secretary of State office. I was very impressed how well it was organized and staff was friendly and very helpful. Everything ran very smoothly, I left feeling good I accomplished my Apostille without stress or frustration. This government office is very efficient! I went to this location to get copies of my birth certificate and complete my passport paperwork. Upon entering, I was warmly greeted by a young lady who direct me to the waiting area. The process took less than 15 minutes! One caveat is that you'll need to pay for parking, otherwise, there are free public parking spaces a few blocks away. read more

I had a very good experience at OC Clerk Recorder today. I help my mom do the passport and she needs translator but I was confused on fill out the application. I was impressed with the staff explain very details and patience. Especially, Billy is the best. He is so dedicated and care for my mom's needs. If metered parking isn't available, there's a parking lot on Broadway near Civic Center. The tall white square/rectangular glass building entrance is close by in the middle of the 2 adjacent parking lots. You go to the info desk inside the front door and check in and wait until someone call your name. I literally sat down for 1 minute before it was my turn. I was in and out in 10min. Stopped by to get a copy of my marriage certificate. Walked into this clean, sleek office and was in shock at how nice this place is! All the staff must be really happy to work here because everyone I came into contact with was so great. I walked in and was immediately greeted by friendly and accommodating check-in workers. I sat down for just a moment, got a confirmation text on my phone, looked up at the screen and immediately was called to a desk where I quickly received my marriage certificate copy ($17). I did fill a form out online prior to coming, but for some reason it couldn't be found in the system, but they so kindly helped me fill out a new form (shoutout to desk #6, sorry did not catch your name)! I inquired about passport photos, found out I did not need an appointment so went back to the check-in desk and they got me in the queue. After a short wait, got my photo taken quickly.
