My Experience with St. Mary's Health System…read more When my psychiatrist and I had terminated our relationship, I asked my primary care doctor if he could refill my current prescriptions until I could find another psychiatrist. After 5 back and forth phone calls to St. Mary's and multiple trips to CVS, I was told that my doctor was "not comfortable" filling out one of my 4 current prescriptions. The odd thing was that the one prescription he denied filling was nearly identical in it's usage as another he did feel comfortable filling. I did not ask for a 90 day supply, only a month's worth of the same prescriptions I had already been taking. These medications were in my chart when I had seen him a few months earlier. I even went to CVS and signed a release to give him my current Rx records. Now I have to hope that I can find a psychiatrist that will see me on short notice or risk having to go to urgent care or the emergency room should my body suffer as a result of not having my medications. I would not recommend this system to anyone I cared about. (Full Disclosure: I gave it 2 stars because my father and brother both see their PCP here and have had mostly positive experiences.)

Go to a specialist who actually specializes in diabetes, not just one factor of diabetes.

Expect non life-threatening…read morewaiting area wait times to be long as probably most places are, 1-2 hrs depending on how much room and staff they are juggling, have something to do with you for the wait time, books, drawing materials, tablets, podcasts, things to take up time: especially with fidgety little ones. Times are tough and waiting when in need is unwanted but bring things to help cope as they will assist when able. The wait time I've seen can take a while and I just want to encourage people to try and be understanding of the current events. With staffing issues everywhere it's difficult to write a review other than including this issue because it affects they experience of receiving help with expected/ desired accommodations. They are building a new center near the auburn Shaw's so perhaps this will make hospital visits better with more places to go when in need.

I was told I could not be seen until early June, which was fine as I know how booked doctors offices are, and that the earliest I could be seen would be at the Lewiston location (I live in southern Maine but was willing to make the drive if it meant I could be seen sooner). I drove an hour to my appointment scheduled in early, just to be told that the doctor was actually not in that day and that they are sorry I was not notified. Understandably very frustrated that I drove all that way for nothing and they neglected to notify me ahead of time, I voiced how I should be seen as soon as possible for the inconveniences they caused just to be told the earliest they could reschedule would be 2 months. They just called me today (at least they called this time I guess) that my appointment was cancelled and they would have to reschedule me for early fall. Needless to say, I said I would be seeing a different office and they lost me as a patient.

Their on call drs for baby care questions are always prompt and helpful. You can't get thru to them on the phone, they don't call you back for hours and you can't get the information you need. It took me over a week and several calls just to get a prescription refill. I love and have had my Doctor for many years but the policies and procedures and training of support staff has me wondering if I should go somewhere else.
