Staff is friendly but service is so slow... bring back the paper if being paperless means adding 20 minutes

There always seems to be a problem with access to my credit card that was issued by the HCFCU…read more Fortunately, online banking has real people helping us, like Elaine on the Big Island. I just called the phone number to seek help and the automated teller is not working. There also use to be an answering service in the Philippines which always provides the wrong info. However, call after 8:30 AM and Elaine can help! No AI robot or a transfer to the Philippines anymore! Thanks Elaine!

I can't begin to say how terrible this bank is. Good lord where do I begin…read more.. First thing, and just annoying really is how many checks we've deposited that were sent back for very small things requiring us to come in and redo them. Can't send wires. seriously?! Limit your zelle transaction amount, but won't tell you what the limit is. Couldn't set up billpay online. Literally had to go in to the branch. Here is where it gets really good... Couldn't get the correct numbers for checks, customer support literally told me the wrong numbers. Fortunately I got heloc checks. Wrote 2 checks from heloc, but the minimum amount ($1k each) wasn't reached. My bad. They called and told me. I asked if they could push them through because they were for property taxes and vehicle registration and it would save me a huge headache. They said no, which cost me in penalties from them and the other parties. Mortgage bank then needed proof of payment for property taxes which was such a hassle not to mention having to go in branch and get cashiers checks and then pay the other parties in person. So I knew I would get a fee from this bank so the next day I transferred funds to the heloc to cover it ($40) and it said $36 went to interest and $4 to the balance. wth? what interest? So I went in the next day to inquire, they assured me it was an error on their end, so I asked them to take care of it because I was leaving for a trip. When I returned from my 3 week trip, I found 3 notices from them. Week 1, past due notice. Week 2 past due notice. Week 3 collections notice. They literally sent me to collections and notified the credit agencies and I got hit with a 120 point credit rating decrease. I was livid. I went in and spoke with the bank manager (2nd time already) and it turns out that when we opened our heloc, the automatically moved $25k to our checking. I moved it back the first moment I could. Unbeknownst to me, there was a $36 interest charge...THAT NEVER SHOWED ON MY BALANCE FOR 2 YEARS until I went to pay the returned check penalty then it took it for the interest that was never there before and sent me to collections. You can't make this up. Fortunately, I got the bank manager to write a letter to the credit agencies and they reversed the ding, but still. I probably spent 24 hours in that bank just dealing with issues. Honestly, I could write pages more about our experience, but I really don't want to waste any more of my time with them. Let me leave it at this. I will be closing my account, my wife wants her account closed, both my kids accounts, my heloc, and our safe deposit box. I'm so done. And to think I wanted my money in a community credit union that really doesn't care about the community at all.
