My son, Daniel, started to go to Twin Parks last September when he was two year old. He was in Toddler program in Cherry Room. He is now almost three and will be starting new school year in the fall. He absolutely loves going there. He is on vacation now and keeps asking when he can go back to school. I feel very fortunate to have him in this school. There are many things which make the school so extraordinary. The teachers in the school are both professional and loving and the classroom is happy and nurturing place. Truly, teachers' main focus is the children. They are always patient and speak calmly. They create atmosphere of grace, courtesy and respect in the classroom. I have to say I've learned a lot from them. Most importantly, I've learned how to communicate better with my son, how to praise (or why not to praise) and how to set rules and boundaries in a right way (how to encourage self-discipline). The curriculum is well thought and the environment of the classroom and materials are very well prepared. It is evident that they work hard to follow and meet the needs and the interests of each and every child. For example, my son was fascinated by different architectural constructions, like Guggenheim museum or Brooklyn Bridge. So the head teacher, Caitlin, took his lead and incorporated it in the curriculum. They went for a walk next to Guggenheim museum, they talked about it, they introduced other architectural constructions, and they hanged pictures of them in the classroom. My son was thrilled and couldn't stop talking about it. And it's only one of many examples. What also makes this school special is that the big part of the classroom's learning environment is practical life (along with sensorial, math, language, art and music areas of learning). Children learn to be independent, they learn self-care. They learn to do everything themselves: dressing up, setting up a table, washing dishes, cleaning up after themselves etc. The other big advantage is that children are exposed to nature and spend lots of time outside. The school is located in front of Center Park and children go out almost every day. The weather conditions need to be really bad for them to stay indoors and use the gym. They go to playgrounds, they do picnics in the park, and they go to nature walks and explore different terrains and wild life. The facility of the school is spotlessly clean and bright. The energy is positive and happy. When you enter the school, you are greeted with a smile by educational director, Liz Lowy. I feel like she knows every family and child in the school and she is always available to discuss developmental or educational issues. The director of the school, Kathy Roemer, is phenomenal. She has extensive experience in the industry. She is passionate about constantly improving the school and works closely with teachers and parents. Kathy also organizes professional development and parent education. Through the year the school offers talks with school psychologist and several workshops with top education speakers in the country. Being a part of the school really helped me to become more educated and better parent. In the end, the most important is that my son is excited and happy to go to school every day, and he is developing love for learning. read more

I think commitment to your child's education is a key factor. Get involved, help building community, communicate..! I've fallen in love with school when our daughter, 13 month of age, went to infant group in early 2011. It felt as if we have bonded almost instantly - so gently the separation was handled, even though challenging. Extraordinary level of attention and support has been provided. Cherished and happy she was ever since, bonding with first teachers even more to date. I think we had found what we were expecting in a teacher - a Talent - during second year in infant-toddler program. I often watched our child in classroom carefully prepared, organized and run according to basic Montessori philosophy, encouraging to discovery, creativity and independence. I knew then that laying the firm foundation of lifelong love of learning has just begun. I love school's educational program for Parents and couldn't get enough of lectures by renowned Montessorians, authors, leading educational and preschool brain development experts: Dr. Phyllis Povell, Rita Kramer, Dr. Edward "Ned" Hallowell, Dr. JoAnn Deak, Ellen Galinsky, Susan Schwartz, to name a few - resources, readily available to faculty. It simply can't get any better than that. We had expected the school being off on holidays as much as one would expect from any other member of NYSIAS; otherwise we'd opt for a daycare. 'Pick of the Week' letters, teacher-parents semiannual individual conferences are of great value, helping to understand your child progress thoroughly. Quarterly installments are very convenient option for paying tuition. One day in early spring, walking school's corridor, I've met some elderly woman - a grandma, wearing a sincere smile, while obviously picking up her grandchild. Watching together through a small door window at a teacher and a girl preparing for dismissal, she'd said to me, a stranger, with wondering calm: "There is something special in this school, something I haven't seen much: a vibe, a sprit. It is truly one of a kind school on so many levels. We have been at the school for three years and could not be happier. Our older son is currently finishing an early childhood program and younger daughter is in a toddler program. Our both children love going to school and both blossomed academically and socially here. Our son says that the best thing happens to him every day is that he wakes up, goes to school and learns. The teachers are phenomenal. They all are extremely professional, dedicated, caring, loving and passionate about what they do. They address needs of every child individually, they really do have different lesson plan for each child. It is evident to us how teachers are committed to help my children to reach their full potential and help them to work through challenges. Also our children feel loved at school and it such fun and happy place for them. The curriculum is a top notch not only academically. The school really invests in social-emotional development of the children. Our children are learning to be independent, learning how to understand their emotions, learning how to solve disagreement/conflict, learning to treat others and the world around them with grace and courtesy. The mixed age model for early childhood classrooms benefited our son tremendously. Last year being one of the younger children in the class he was so motivated to learn looking at what his older friends are doing. And this year being one of the oldest in the class allowed him to gain self confidence and develop leadership skills. The administration of the school is very friendly, very experienced and devoted to create the best environment possible for children and families. We do feel like they work with us as one team in raising our children. The school organizes many workshops and discussion groups for parents to learn as well. CPM is truly a unique pre-school. I wish they could extend their curriculum and become a pre-school to grade 12 school! That would be so awesome to continue to be part of this great community for so many years. We have been at the school for two years and could not be happier. Our daughter was in early childhood here and had a very positive experience. We wanted a place for her that was more like a school instead of the many nurseries and pre-k that are run like daycare. We were happy with the transition process and letting the parents participate/stay initially in the classroom in order to ease the transition phase. The teachers are warm, enthusiastic and work with children based on their development stage. The classroom is full of activities that appeal to every child and interest from arts to books, to blocks, math, sewing and beads. They go to the park daily and participate in field trips. This is a great place for the little ones to learn about rules and social interactions. The teachers work with the kids to practice writing the alphabet, numbers, spelling and many other skills. There are also many school socials, picnics, field trips, and guest speakers for the parents who want to get involved. read more

As a parent and a teacher at this school I can only say positive things about this Central Park Montessori. I first chose to work at Twin Parks Montessori because I saw the care the entire school staff had with the children, not only in their own classrooms, but teachers got to know students of all age groups and were always kind and welcoming. Seeing first hand how each of the teachers interacted with the children made me feel completely comfortable enrolling my son into the infant room, he is now in toddler class and continues to love going to school. Perfect! This is the word I would use to describe our experience at Central Park Montessori. The administration, teachers, facility, curriculum and community all exceeded my expectations. My son is now in his second year at this school and he loves it. The teachers are extremely nurturing and engaged with the children. It is true that the school has a lot of days off -- which I do find challenging as a working mom. This school is really excellent for kids of all ages. Whatever their personality, the teachers will really help them finding their own way to become more self confident. They learn at their own rhythm more than what any other kid of the same age would learn. Our three daughters attend Twin Parks School at Riverside. We are happy with the school - excellent teachers, very helpful staff. Our children enjoy it very much and benefit there from a excellent Montessori education. We live on the Upper East Side but we do not mind crossing the park everyday to have our children at Twin Parks. read more
