Big parking lot with plenty of room (I guess downtown still hasn't recovered from COVID and remote work), I found a spot where there was plenty of eyes so I could worry a little less. I bought round trip tickets from the vending machine which popped out both. I validated one and saved the other for later. On the platform, the train was waiting and a few minutes after I boarded, it started the journey. Plenty of seating on board at 7:45 am though there was one annoying dude playing rap music without headphones. No one else said anything, so I just let it be. There is an overhead display with the current time but it did not have any indicator of the time until the next train. Union Station is between Grand (westbound) and Civic Center (eastbound). Trains come every 10 mins peak time and every 20 min off peak, so plan accordingly. There seems to be a security guard stationed here every time I go, so take that for what it's worth. As with every mode of public transportation, always keep your head on a swivel.

Metrolink has done a decent job retrofitting the space with stairs and an elevator, making it functional if not especially inviting. Westbound trains head to Convention Center, while eastbound service crosses the Mississippi River into Illinois, stopping next at East Riverfront. I only passed through briefly and didn't linger. At the entrance to the platform, there are ticket vending booths. There is an overhead indicator of the current time but it does not indicate how long until the next train is due to arrive. If there was an audible announcement, I didn't hear it. There are a few benches to keep you out of the wind but if it's raining or snowing, you will get covered. The station is on the Blue Line between Maplewood-Manchester (westbound, toward Shrewsbury-Lansdowne I-44) and Richmond Heights (eastbound, toward Fairview Heights). They have a designated space for kids in the C Gate area, which is favorable for family travel with little ones. The airport is clean and mostly in good repair. Some of the gates have cushioned seats that seem sturdier and definitely more comfortable.Hopefully thy are in the process of upgrading their seating areas.

This trail is 15 miles from start to finish. We began in the middle, we rode out to SWIC, the junior college in Belleville, Took a water break and then biked to the other end, which is near the west end of Belleville. It was wide enough for two bikes to meet and runners had plenty of room. This was a nice easy trail.
