This small neighborhood gym has just the right mix of classes and workout equipment. Although stretching areas are limited, due to the physical space of the club, they have a nice walking/running track and variety of machines. Massages and personal training sessions are available at an additional cost or by using member points, which are nice options to have on site. The locker rooms are always clean and have a steam room, whirlpool and dry sauna. My only complaint would be the length of time it's been taking to renovate the whirlpool in the women's locker room and the men's locker room. I normally don't leave reviews, but my experience with the Centre Club in Libertyville has been frustrating enough that I feel it's important to share. The facility itself is outdated, and for the high cost of membership, the value just isn't there. The locker rooms and common areas are not consistently clean, and much of the equipment feels neglected or past its prime. These issues are disappointing, but what really pushed me to write this review is the way management handles members. Policies seem to change depending on who you are and whether staff happen to like you. Instead of following consistent, professional standards, I've witnessed rules being bent or tightened based on personal feelings toward certain members. That's unfair, unprofessional, and creates a hostile environment for anyone on the wrong side of those decisions. As paying members, we should be treated equally and according to clear, consistent policies--not at the whim of individual staff opinions. For the price and supposed reputation of the Centre Club, I expected far better service and a stronger commitment to professionalism. Unfortunately, my experience has been the opposite, and I cannot recommend this facility. read more

I've been a member here for 7 years. Similar to reviews on Google, I've grown frustrated with the lack of court space available as they cater to pickleball, and because they can charge for pickleball classes, prioritize the space to them. I bought a membership for my son a year ago and it's a crapshoot if the court will be available for him to shoot hoops with other kids while I work out. I join many frustrated family membership members. You can call ahead to ask about the space, but it will go to pickleball and they will kick people off if they call at any point to get space. As others have mentioned, they cater to their older members who run the club and have beef with younger members sharing the same space. Today an elderly man walked up to me showing me the laminated club rules, reprimanding me for using my phone at a machine. I used my phone in between my reps, briefly (not sitting scrolling, just responding to a text), and resumed my workout, always mindful of anyone waiting a turn (though there's hardly anyone there at 9:00 on a Friday) and he went out of his way to scold and humiliate me. There was the same open machine right next to me and the equipment area had about 8 people in the entire space. Don't even dare briefly spread out your clothes while you gather your things in the ladies locker room or you will get scoffed at! It can be like being in a mean grandparents club. They allow their cliquey club members since 1986 to dictate space. I've seen the manager berate her employees, everyone knows the building is run down, and on so many levels they cannot modernize. It lacks classes that are more challenging like they had before COVID (they let go of a ton of their better instructors), probably because it's mostly older people going to classes anyway. I understand the challenges of being tied with Advocate but AAH's whole motto is helping people live well- to have such a worn down building on a healthcare campus is pathetic. I will be looking for other options, even if it's workouts from home and just having my son find courts with his friends around Libertyville (for free). read more

I have been a member since signing up in the construction trailer in the late 1980's . The club has many positive attributes but lately advocate is letting the place run down . The hot tub has been out of service for over a year . The carpet in many areas is badly worn and the locker rooms need refreshing . read more

Whirlpool still down and when you ask the manager the status it is deer in head lights. Pickle ball with senior citizens takes over the basketball courts where kids play more and more each week. I want to like this place as the workout equipment and pool are pretty good but overall the place is not the best in area and the pickle ball encroachment bugs me so will head to another place soon. read more

A really really nice gym if you are willing to pay for it! They have pretty much everything, pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room, track, yoga studio, machines, free weights... They also have everything you could need in the locker room like towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hairspray, combs, hairdryers, q tips... A really nice staff also, they always greet you and are very helpful. The only complaint I have is the members. I've seen lots of other reviews that mention them and it's all true. A lot of the members are older and are very rude. I've been yelled at by other members multiple times for no reason. I can't pin this on the club because there isn't much they can do about it but it is still something to consider. read more

Recently joined the Centre Club after a friend invited me following my retirement. Membership Director and Front Desk personnel were very friendly and helpful. Tried the Zumba class which hurt my back and formerly broken ankle, so switched to Water Aerobics which I really enjoy. Get a healthy low impact work out, followed by time in the hot tub and then the sauna. Very invigorating! Locker room is clean and well stocked. There are a variety of classes available. Also tried Pilates which I enjoyed but found to be crowded. One of best benefits for me is running into folks I knew when our daughter was in the Libertyville school system. It is always fun to catch up! Current membership fees are approx $25/wk which is worth it as long as you come at least 3x/wk. read more

I came here for a trial and to check out the gym. If you're like me, the first the I wanna know is how much per month. Centre Club is a bit pricey at $92/ month. $72/mo if you buy a 6 month membership. However, for the price this is what you get: Basketball court (well kept), basketball leagues, 3 racquet ball courts, indoor .10 mile track, an area for free weights, plenty of cardio equipment, machines for weight-lifting, lap pool, hot tub, steam room, showers, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, spray deodorant, mouth wash, towel service (in the men's locker room of course.). The staff is very friendly the hours are from 5:30am to 10pm (i think) on the weekdays, not sure about the weekends. They may offer tanning too? One of the best things though is that even during peak hours, there's still plenty of availability of machines and weights, I rarely had to wait for weights or anything. I suspect that the accessibility of everything is due to the cost of the membership. If I wasn't saving to pay for my wedding, I would definitely, without a doubt, join this club. read more

Management has allowed children as young as 6 on the basketball floor. Children should also have their own locker and dressing area. This includes Sundays when there is no floor manager in the workout areas. The music is for teeny boppers even during the week when the average age is over 50. Management is not genuinely concerned with any suggestions, just placation. read more

The club is not safe. My mask broke while I was exercising. I immediately went to the front deck to get one. The manager said that don't carry extra masks. And she said that it is advocate hospitals fault. That is unbelievable! This is a very large health club with pretty pricey membership rates. I truly miss working out at The Centre Club. When I lived in the burbs (ahem, with my parents circa 2001) I was a member and tore it up every night. What else did I have to do with my time? My parents are still members and it's good to see not much has changed over the years. Still the same exceptionally clean facility, well stocked locker rooms, tons of cardio machines, great weight machines and friendly staff. What I like the best, though, is the group class schedule. See, The Centre Club is chock-full of non-working moms that love them some classes like step, aerobics, yoga and my favorite, Spin. These gals take their classes very seriously. It's all designer spandex and fancy gym shoes as far as the eye can see. I went to The Centre Club to work out with my dad on a guest pass a few weeks ago when I was visiting the 'rents and arrived right when a Spin class was scheduled to begin. "Score!" I thought. "I'll be able to get in a stellar cardio session today!" What I didn't realize was that I stumbled into an advanced Spin class lead by a male teacher who can only be described as The Spin Whisperer. Clad 100% in skintight bike shorts, bike tank top, wrist bands, a sweat band on his head and one of those handless microphones, The Spin Whisperer lead our group on what can only be described as one of the most strenuous workouts... EVER. A 30 minute hill climb with steady resistance increases? Absolutely killer. However, The Spin Whisperer was motivating and fun to watch, so while I was in serious pain, I made it though the class and lived to tell the tale. If you live in or around Libertyville, I highly recommend The Centre Club. It's a winner. read more

I'm updating my review because I think that I was being unfair to Centre Club based not on something they did, but something their members did, and they have no control over that. I've attended a few more classes at Centre Club, with a few different instructors, and there does seem to be a bias against new members (or, more accurately, people new to the class). Which is really weird, because the club is constantly on a membership recruiting drive. Jacki, however, is still awesome - take whatever class she teaches, she's the absolute best. Her classes are FUN and a great workout. The same class with different instructors is less fun (sooo less fun) and a less intense workout (or no real workout at all). In the free exercise area, the staff are super awesome, friendly and helpful in teaching you how to use the machines. And they have a HUGE assortment of machines and workout equipment. The women's locker room is icky, but currently getting new carpeting. I still hope they fix the ceiling in the large whirlpool area and clean up the tiling in the showers. Overall I'm pleased with my membership, and would be happy to continue at the club if I can. First star deducted for the state of the women's locker room. Second star deducted for lack of friendliness to new people attending the classes they have on offer. Cost of membership: $95 activation fee (usually waived) + $90-98 monthly fee (depending on plan you sign up with). read more

I have been a member here in separate stints for a total of almost 2 years. Staff is always super friendly. Price is somewhat higher than chain gyms, but equipment is virtually always available. The only gripe I would have is that it would be nice to have a 2nd power rack on the rare times someone is using it, but probably not worth it based on usage. read more

I have been member here for last 16 years and because of the distance started going to different health clubs for trial. After seeing other clubs I really miss and appreciate what they offer at Centre Club. Extra clean, friendly staffs...and much more. I especially enjoy the track upstairs. it is a great place for your body health and mind relaxing as well. I just signed up again yesterday as my Holiday gift to myself. I am not a member of the Centre Club but I visited as a guest while visiting IL. I loved this gym. Everyone I encountered was friendly as can be. I also schedule a massage while I was there. The lady massage therapist was awesome. For the price It can not be beat. I can not wait to move to IL so I can sign up for this gym. Keep up the good work. read more

I was really wanting to love this place. But I have an 18 month old and I decided to call the kids center (there are phones located in the weight section) and when the girl picked up all I hear is crying and it heard like my child so I asked "I'm just checking in..is that my baby crying?" She replied "no she's not crying she's fine" and then we hung up. I knew that was my child so I decided to go upstairs and check and I see thru the window my child balling as she is being held. So I go in of course and get my baby and she has a bump and a blue spot on her face. I asked frantically what had happened and basically was given a run around until FINALLY I got to the truth and apparently a girl had pushed her down. This young girl had to be about 5 her name was Rosie. What a bully and I can not believe I wasn't called prior to this and on top of it lied to. I also forgot to mention there were a LOT of kids in this place and only ONE child teacher who was young and clearly not paying attention to other kids in there being pushed and bullied. Definitely needs to be fixed. This has been the only problem but unfortunately it only takes one thing to happen to your child and I will not be returning. read more

There is little integrity to be found at the Libertyville Centre club; club management/staff say one thing, but then acts in a completely contradictory manner. For example, saying it is alright to furnish feedback to staff, but then condemning a person for doing so and both instructor and management saying it is OK to directly give (share) written material and/or pictures to staff (as opposed to having it placed in their personal employee boxes, but then admonishing/penalizing member for doing so. The Libertyville club is also exceptionally disingenuous; they fall far short of truly caring for/about members and/or living up to the lofty Christian values that are espoused in their mission statement. read more

In non-humid months this gym gets five stars; for May through September it gets zero. I'll round it down to two stars because a facility this large that charges this much ought to be able to control its obscene humidity better. Its members invest in the Centre Club; what a shame the Centre Club can't invest in dehumidification in return. I can only get through about 2/3 of my regular workout and I was told others were complaining, including employees. Right now (June) it is an unbearable place to work out. I've been running outside because even though it's hotter, it's much less humid! I want my money back. read more

I was a long-time resident of Libertyville and a member of Centre Club for many years. I recently moved to Northbrook and have found it really difficult to find a club the caliber of Centre Club. The staff is very friendly, the trainers are top-notch, the place has a nice atmosphere and they have a ton of great equipment. I also thought the place was very well-maintained - the machines were clean and in working order and there was always someone in the locker room tidying up and stacking clean towels. The place just smelled clean. I used it a lot (5x week) and it was well worth the monthly fee (somewhere just under $100), which I think is very reasonable for the quality. The facility is nice, but I find myself constantly getting kicked off the basketball court due to promotional activities that the club is probably getting paid for. Missing the Centre Club in Libertyville after retiring and moving away to Kalamazoo, Michigan. That club was fantastic compared to what is available elsewhere. The Centre Club has great facilities, equipment and programs. I currently attend West Hills Athletic Club, which is owned by Western Michigan University and believe me, it doesn't hold a candle to the Centre Club. I just joined the Centre Club in Libertyville. So far, the atmosphere, equipment, and staff are great. I was looking to avoid a 'meathead' gym or a place where teenagers are running around half naked. I have children, but I have not brought them to the childcare center. I went there thinking we would get a family membership and I left without completing the entire tour. We brought our 3 year old and 20 month old and dropped them off at the childcare center so we could do a tour. There were 3 older kids plus our 2 little kids there and 3 caretakers. While we were talking to our tour guide, who was a manager, I saw the older kids literally jumping off the bookcases. The caregivers were not watching any kids just watching their manager talk to us about membership enrollment. My 20 month old saw the older kids and started to try to climb the bookcase too. No one stopped him, instead I stopped the conversation and pointed the incident out. The manager talked to the caregiver and although I was still uncomfortable my husband convinced me to leave them for just 5 minutes to complete the tour with the idea that the caretaker will be better since she just heard about our level of discomfort from the manager and anyone can make a mistake. We started the tour but then I stopped and went back because I had an uneasy feeling. When I went back again the caretaker was not watching the kids, she was sitting at the front desk and my two little kids were sitting with an older kid and the older kid, probably 7 or 8, was giving her water bottle to my 20 month old. Disgusting! A total stranger sharing her water bottle with my toddler! When I complained to the caregiver she said he didn't drink out of it yet that the older kid was just showing him how to use it. Totally inappropriate. I'm still totally grossed out. Lastly, while I was getting ready to leave a bunch of adults came in which is weird because there weren't really that many kids there and the manager said that only parents of kids there can come in the childcare room. I wouldn't have thought anything of it but she made a point of mentioning it and obviously that isn't true. Anyway, it was weird. It might be a nice gym but I would never leave my kids there so I will never know. That was just my experience in less than 30 minutes, what else happens that you don't see? read more

I had been a member at other local clubs, one of which I really liked, but the schedule at the one I liked just did not fit mine- plus it was always a rush for limited equipment. Not so at Centre Club. I bought a 30 day guest pass and used the heck out of it- always clean, always friendly, always space and room to do what you wanted and equipment available. The pool is usually not crowded which means that even a slow swimmer (me!) can have their own lane in off-peak hours. Plenty of variety of classes and equipment so you won't get bored. The spin classroom has a door to the outside, and high windows so you can watch the clouds go by as you are climbing that last hill. On nice days they even allow you to tale spin bikes outside the open door and spin in the crisp fall air! What a change from my last club, where the small spin room was overheated and full of recirculating germs. As others have said, you get what you pay for, so definitely try Centre Club. Find a groupon or use their Dr. Fit program to get a 30 day pass so you can see for yourself. read more
