It carries mostly items for dogs and cats, ranging from beds to toys to food to care products. They carry frozen meat products, as well as cans and dehydrated (and freeze-thawed!) treats for your furry friends. We dropped by today to get some more treats, as well as a tiny Kong toy and some dental sticks. My dog personnally (doggally?) adores some of their chewing sticks. It's more than half her length and she runs away with it as soon as it lends in her paws! As for the dental sticks, well good thing they had different formats (small, medium and large bags) because I picked the smallest bag for her to try. She gave it a single lick followed by a disappointed snort. Oh well.

Shedrow, a Canadian brand of dog coats is IT. Got a cute coat for my pup, and was tempted by many of their other offerings, but a girl's suitcase is only so large. This shop had a great selection of all sorts of pet products, and way nicer outerwear (Duh, it's Canadian) than anyplace I've seen in the US.

The staff was always friendly to us. Then we decided to buy two rats. We were misinformed about the type of cage we should get. Yes, it said "rat cage" on it, but rats need to climb and this was a flat cage. We were recommended a feed that included dry corn and even after we hesitated the vendor insisted that it was the best thing on the shelves (dry corn can contain mold and fungus that is known to be carcinogenic to rats). We get home and a few days later one of our rats gets sick. We get upset, I send an upset email to the company to let them know how I feel about the bad recommendation and the fact that I'm going to have to shell out for vet fees already. My boyfriend goes back to the store to get pet food soon after and the owner apologizes, asks about the rat and gives us a complimentary bag of pet food. A few months pass. Our rat heals. We decide to get two more rats to add to our brand new Double Critter Nation Cage... We go to the same pet shop, since the owner did make amends. We select two rats, they look healthy, they just got in, they're still in the back, didn't make it to the cages yet. We bring them home. They won't eat the food we give them and so we worry they might not be weened. We go back to the store and the owner gives us a bit of what he feeds them, so we can transition from what he gave them to what we have. They start eating, mixed with a bit of wet food. But their health doesn't look good... It starts with a few sneezes, which is normal. But after a week, it gets worse. One in particular is getting really really bad. Her lungs are whistling, she's sneezing so much and wheezing so bad. She's lethargic. I have to set her aside in another cage ASAP so I don't contaminate the others, but I don't have one, so I need to go buy one. The nearest place is Chico, where I got my sick rat. Again. So I go there. I'm upset. I'm asked by the employees how I am and I tell them: "Upset". I'm asked what's wrong: "My new rat that I bought here is sick, I need a quarantine cage". An employee shows me a variety of options that could be used within my budget and we finally settle on one. And then the owner shows up in front of us. He accuses us of badmouthing him and his company to his employees. He asks what our problem is now. I tell him that my problem now is that at least one of the rats I bought is sick with a respiratory infection and I need to go see a vet as an emergency; in the meanwhile I need a quarantine cage so this does not spread and infect all my rats, so I came to get a cage. He takes the most condescending tone and asks what the symptoms are, asks if I realize that rats do occasionally sneeze, and tells me that if the rats are sick that it's my fault, that "Maybe I should stop putting the rats under the Air Conditioner". He claimed that none of his rats have never been sick and that we are the only clients of his to have ever complained, so the problem lies with us. That he was comprising enough. The fact is, he did compromise and if he hadn't apologize at first we might not have returned. That's customer service. But that day, I was upset and worried for my baby. I wasn't there to ask anything from him. I was there to buy something. I didn't go to see him, he came to see me. He went out of him way to see me and insult me. And regardless of the previous efforts, that kills any good will he had accumulated until then. My temperament was not friendly and I might have been frothing at the mouth slightly at the end of the encounter, but I worked at the SPCA for 3 years, at a vet clinic for 1 year and volunteered here and there all my adult life to help animals. I know a thing or two about animals. When I set out to get rats, I did it right and I studied. Especially when I realized the first advice I got from the pet shop was wrong. So I made myself as knowledgeable as I could be about my new pets. Being told that this is all my fault when I've had them less than a week, seeing how he took no blame whatsoever, how he attacked me, but even worse to me was how he gave no fucks about the fact that his other rats could also be contaminated (same breeder, contagious infection). In the end I put the cage down, told him I would never return. Not only was the first rat sick, the second one I bought at the same time was sick too. I had to bring them both. It's been a month at the time of writing this (approximately) and they are still in isolation being medicated because pulmonary infections suck. And so does the owner of this Chico. To be fair, the employees have always been kind and whatever misinformation they spread is due to the lack of training of the employer and company.

I love animals love love them…read more This location how ever is super tiny and really messy. Had to step over store merchandise just to get in. Two women employees were talking about their love life for a long time. Everyone in the store was staring as well. Usually when you see a potential customer bent over awwwing at the cage of guinea pigs you would come up and strike up a conversation hoping to make a sale. I know more about how long she's been single then how old The baby guineas were. Love coming by to visit and look for little furry love bugs to buy. Hope next time it's better.

I found a few cat toys and a really nice cat carrier here. I once inquired about adopting a cat here and they were very well informed about the animals and asked me about my situation and then told me that the cat I was inquiring about wouldn't be a good fit as she needed to be an only cat. They are not all about money they definitely care about the animals!

There were some baked snacks for pets as well, but we had to pass on those as they would have gone stale during the remainder of our trip. I like that I can pop in on my way home from work to pick up a bag of food for my cat. Friendly but non intrusive service makes it a delight to shop here. They have a loyalty system in place where they take down your phone number and track your purchases. When you hit a certain amount ($100, I think) you get a discount. I'm happy with any sort of discount, and not having to tuck yet another card into my wallet is a good thing.

I really like the staff and my preferred LARGE bag of cat food is cheaper here than anywhere. Fantastic large variety of products. I also like that they host adoption days for animals. They are a supportive business. I also really like the knowledgeable friendly staff. Like I said, my go-to friendly, less expensive, huge variety pet store - and no animals for sale!

They have decent prices and now with new ownership comes a discount points system - which with the cost of pet supplies is well appreciated. Keep up the improvements. You can see that the new owners care to make the shop more clean and organized. They also have a cool wall of pets displaying photos of many furry satisfied pets.

Would love to say it's a solid 5 stars because the owner is really fabulous and he deserves 5 stars…read more... But it has a few points to improve upon, so 4.5 stars rounded up for still being exceptional and promoting responsible pet ownership practices. I like the staff, they're friendly and helpful and never make u feel like youre bothering them when u need help, but they could improve with salesmanship, at least a bit, I think. For instance I sought out a particular bird: Fiji - a green cheek conure originally being sold at 750$, (price reduced to 650$ either as a Christmas sale or perhaps because by then she had been there for almost a year if not a bit more). Every time, I visited her for anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes, for almost a year at least once, but by the end 2-3 times a month (any excuse to visit her, we developed quite the bond). Despite my obvious fascination and bond with her not once did anyone ever approach me to see if maybe I'd like to handle her (this likely would have made me totally ignore the fact I could not afford her and I likely would have accrued the debt), I never bothered asking because I knew I couldn't afford her. So while I'm kind of glad they didn't, I also feel in terms of a business they missed a sales opportunity. Fiji was eventually bought by someone, much to my heartbreaking bittersweet discovery, but had they attempted any type of salesmanship I likely would have bought her much sooner. 2nd I'm quite sad about the recent renovations. Usually, renovations make things nicer, in this case they closed off the basement portion (which used to house the reptiles and fish etc) and put everything together upstairs. I find it takes away a bit of the aesthetic pleasure of this place and I no longer go visit the reptile n fish sections as often as I used to because they're more functional now and less attracting. They used to be set up and decorated so beautifully. But staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful, the prices are within par of other pet stores, sometimes nice discounts, the animals are well cared for and appear content. The pets frequently get shoulder perch privileges from the staff and frequent cuddle moments if it's an animal that requires this affection. Even the snakes get to hang around the staff. Ultimately I think they should offer us customers to hold, touch, feel and interact with the pets more proactively and, most importantly, I wish they would re-open the basement set-up with the aquariums and terrariums which used to be a favorite part of our visits. Otherwise, I think this is an excellent pet shop for healthy pets, excellent quality accessories and friendly supportive advice, help and services (like nail cutting).
