Very poor customer service. Phone messages go unanswered, no response to emails except "we're working on it." They have no commitment to helping owners with their property claims. Buyer Beware! This company requires the ENTIRE refundable security deposit as a "holding deposit" and if for any reason your circumstances change and you cancel prior to executing the lease agreement they keep the entire "holding deposit" as compensation for holding the unit off the market. In this case less than a full week. Historically speaking property management companies ask for a "holding deposit" of around $100.00 to $250.00 which will then be applied to the entire refundable security deposit upon executing a lease agreement. So, if you cancel, then the much smaller "holding deposit" is forfeited and then those funds cover the cost to hold the unit off the market as there is a chance other prospective renters have been turned away due to a commitment from the applicant. Most Property Management Companies have you execute the lease 3 days after the screening has been approved. It's unreasonable to take $1500 from a prospective renter without an executed lease agreement. That's just shady business practice, lacks integrity and makes the property management industry look bad. read more

Having been a realtor in the past I am now forced to be a client of this joke of a company through my HOA Association. John Turner, the CEO, was intially responsiblity for the HOA duties, he did absolutely nothing. Paying $350 for water, sewer and garbage and supposedly landscaping. The landscaping has been a mess since they took over the Association. It didn't matter how many times I asked for things to be done, Turner did absolutely nothing. Now, Melinda Tran is the "Association Manager" for the company and she emulates Turners work ethic which is also absolutely nothing. Yesterday I requested some bylaws for a future sale of my condo and expressed my need for a prompt response and I also asked my neighbor (who was the former treasurer) who gave me a response immediately and sent the same information to Tran. Early this afternoon I still had no response from Tran and emailed her and asked why she hadn't responded and she emailed me back and called me "rude" for inquiring why she wasn't doing her job. As you can see from the majority of one star reviews for this sham of a business I am not the only one who is having problems. Corporate Century 21 should step in and get rid of these do nothing employees. read more

Thanks for the chance to clarify. We did give a 90 day notice to our tenant because we were going to sell the house, and within that 90 day, the tenant had given a 30 day notice. We were not notified of this 30 day notice. They moved out close to 2 months sooner and we had no idea. Were you not obligated to tell us about the 30 day since we gave the 90 day? Karen in your office sent us a curt email telling us to pay your contractor for the lightbulbs he replaced. It was only $80, but by the time your office found this bill, the house was no longer ours. I would cut and paste this email, but the disclosure at the bottom makes me hesitate. It was clearly a Century 21 error and there was no apology, just a note telling us to pay. I called Karen to discuss it and after no returned call, my husband called a day later and after no return call, then I emailed a couple of days after that. Karen only replied after the email. Our tenant lived in our home that was new construction when we moved in. We lived there 8 years. Within the first month the tenant let you know that her kid stuffed towels or something down the toilet, the toilet overflowed and flooded the bathroom, causing water to come through the can lights in the kitchen. This was deemed our fault and we questioned it but ended up paying, thinking that we wanted this to work out, we had signed a year lease, and who knows? Your maintenance person came out to fix the front door lock. He didn't do a good job, and we had to come up and fix the small hole that was in the door for the tenant because we wanted it to get done right, and we didn't want a huge bill. This was our first home and just 2 adults lived there. We cared for the home and were surprised that the tenant pulled the handle off the built-in microwave due to the fact that "the magnet was too strong." This was a charge we split with the tenant after she disputed it on the move-out charges. Additionally, not even a year into their tenancy, they found mouse droppings. We never had mice, so one has to wonder what attracted them. This was paid for by us as well, because it was our fault. Truly, if I were to rent out a home in Portland, I would not choose you. I had hoped it would work out because you were very professional in the beginning. read more

As stated by others about this company, I've had similar and terrible experiences with this management company. We rented a property through this property manager for 2014 and 2015. We had a number of times where they were slow to fix important problems (a leaking toilet at the wax ring and a sagging ceiling) or failed to communicate important information to the Homeowners Association. They forgot to tell the HOA that we were moving into the property, so when we moved in and parked in our dedicated parking spot, the HOA had our car towed as being illegally parked. We had to pay the $450 tow bill, and then debate with Century 21 for a solid three months before they admitted fault and repaid. When moved out, we had the property shampooed and cleaned, then did a walk-through with a representative of Century 21 with the move out sheet. They took pictures and told us everything looked fine and that they would come back within the week to finalize all the move out paperwork. We moved out and 30 days later, we received a letter letting us know that they had the carpets shampooed.. again, had the house cleaned.. again and were going replace the curtains and that they would be withholding $2k of our deposit! We were completely taken aback, as none of this info came up while we were there in person to discuss or contradict. After a number of calls and emails back and forth, they agreed to refund a portion of the $2k. Then they stopped communicating. We've now sent them 3 emails, two phone calls and a letter. Nothing from them. I guess from here it's small claims court, social media and the Better Business Bureau. Beware. read more

I sold property with Charles Nick Schultz from Century 21 Northstar. Nick from Century 21 Northstar did not even have the courtesy to say "Thank You". I waited over a month to get a thank you email, postcard, letter, but I got nothing. I received a "Thank you" email from the finance company (Charles Nick Schultz was copied on that email) the day after the house closed. During the sale period, I asked questions of Charles Nick Schultz and he would reply: "no news is good news". I even asked Nick to contact the buyers agent to find out how the inspection went, Nick replied that he did not want to do that, because it put him in a 1 down position. So, I got no information. I put up with Nick's idiosyncrasies, but when you pay thousands of dollars and get very little in return, Century 21 Northstar deserves zero star. I even took Century 21 Northstar review survey and at the end commented that they could call me, haven't heard anything. At the very least, this is a frustrating experience and Century 21 Northstar only adds to the fustration. read more

Never, EVER sign a lease contract with this company. This place is absolutely awful. Would definitely not recommend. I have rented for many years in different states but I had the worst experience with this place. Where should I start? When it comes to singing the lease, they are (specifically Nick) very nice and available even on the weekend. But as soon as you sign, the ignorance and rudeness start.  I rented this 4 bedroom property in Bethany area of Portland for 18 months while I was out of state and I had no idea of the price range in the neighborhood and since I was new to the town. Not very long after, I figured out that they overcharged me by about $500/month for this property. All other properties with same floor plan rented for much lower prices around the same time frame. This is not all.  When I moved in, there was no microwave in the house as shown in the website pictures for this rental property. I asked them for the microwave, but they told me that the owner took the microwave and he wouldn't provide one. They had it on me to purchase the microwave for the time I stay there and stated that "you don't wanna break the lease now and loose your security deposit because of a microwave"!!! These people are unwilling to help when something goes wrong in the property. The very first thing they do is blame it on you as if you did something wrong. They are extremely rude.  My garage door was not functioning properly for a while and they were asking if I play with the garage door and/or its remote control! My garbage disposal was not working once and they fixed it out of my own pocket just to make it seem fair to the owner. When I asked for the reason and was following up on the case, Jessica in the office with an extremely rude tone told me that "Next time when the garbage disposal is not working, have your sister, cousin or any other of your family members to come and put their hands in the garbage disposal to clear it for you!!!" This company only cares about their profit, instead of caring about their residents. Karen is the by far the most unpleasant of them all. Don't expect her to do anything other than blame it on you when something goes wrong. They had me take responsibility for the front yard and back yard grass while not only there was no sprinkling system but also no water hose. When moving out, she sent me the "Move out Information" which clearly states that "the tenant must professionally clean the carpet and provide the receipt." Although I followed exact same thing and hired a company to do the job, they kept part of my security deposit for "Shampoo Carpet" which was done by the carpet cleaning company even though it was not stated in the instructions at all. They didn't even bother to respond to my email asking the reason of keeping my security deposit and the request of returning it. By the way, as Rachel stated in another review, they completely deny a final walk through the property before moving out and take advantage of holding the security deposit till the end of 31-day time frame. What a local scam. Their management plays dirty. They will bully you and break all the rules to get their way. It's even more interesting that the people who were coming and fixing things on their behalf all had complains about this company. Originally, I was very excited that I found a perfect place in a good neighborhood with great schools for my kids. I was planning to live there for a few years. But after seeing their dirty side, I decided to move out as soon as possible.  Century 21 Turner properties, It's absurd when you are trying to sum up some money from here and there to make profit but it's not going to be the actual rent amount when you drive the tenant to move out anyway.  It's a shame on you that you lost your customer easily with these filthy tricks of yours and absurd behavior. Our landlord changed property managements and used this company. All we received was a letter notifying us, the tenants, of this. Never was an in person property inspection done not even when we moved out. The owner never even made any inspections while we lived there. We were 3 adults (no kids, no long term visitors, no partying etc) and the condition we got the property in was terrible. We are talking beer stains on the stair's walls and carpet. Blinds that were missing pieces and in general a nice home that was in terrible shape. Turns out, the neighbors told us, that the previous tenants got kicked out for partying too much and being loud. We were aghast and we made sure to respect the home and neighbors. We moved out after 2 years and since we were adults who cleaned up after ourselves, had careers, and never held a single crowd nor party at the home we thought everything would be fine. Turns out this company belligerently ripped through our entire deposit (consider that we were paying around $1300 per month) making statements that we had broken items in the house that needed replacing and who knows what else they added to their disgusting abuse of our hard earned money. Again, they never even checked the property when they took over nor pay attention to the paperwork that stated the disgusting state that we rented the home in. They took the deposit and did not want to talk to us about it when we called. This company is passive-aggressive to tenants and do not desire to communicate. To date they have been the worst property management we have had. They never did an inspection with us the tenants while we were present before we moved out. Not once did we see these people. Truly disgusting, didn't even want to talk with us. Just a total freaking mess with them. We learned to be hypervigilant and now take pictures, videos, and emphasize every issue on the paperwork in every home we rent. If this company takes over the place you are renting beware. You may end up in a situation exactly like us. read more

Do yourself a favor and rent from someone else. When I was initially looking to rent a property, these people, specifically Nick, were great. The former tenants also raved about how responsive they were (probably because they were avoiding a lease break fee by having me rent their apartment). I didn't bother to look at reviews because everything was going so smoothly. Everything changed once I became a tenant and got new points of contact. They refused to fix things, or perhaps the property owner refused to fix things and made C21 Turner the messenger. The owner was definitely difficult and my apartment might have sucked less if there was less of a focus on profits. Code violation windows? The owner had someone come out to get a quote on replacing them but decided not to move forward. Before someone jumps in and claims that the apartment I lived in was up to code, please see the quote below from the City of Portland, Oregon - Bureau of Development Services brochure: "You must be able to open the emergency egress window or door from the inside without a key, special knowledge, or any separate tool." Bedrooms require an egress window, and since there wasn't a window in the bedroom that stayed open without using a special tool, this is a violation. My contacts at C21 Turner were not helpful or responsive. Having multiple points of contact can be confusing enough, but when they all have different answers it's downright awful. Having to contact them by multiple times by email AND phone in order to get a response / answer to a question / timeframe for a repair is shameful. One of my favorite experiences with them is when someone showed up at my property without notice, called me, and asked to be let inside. I immediately followed up with C21 Turner FREAKING OUT because I'm a female living alone with a strange man on my doorstep. Please don't tell me to "calm down" or act like I'm being unreasonable for expecting some notice or warning. The apartment looked new in photos (I rented sight unseen), but the "new hardwood floors" were cheap laminate with gaps and water damage due to being installed incorrectly, the appliances were energy hogs, and the code violation windows that wouldn't stay open or closed meant super high utility bills ($200-$300 in the winter for a ~600 sq ft apt). The place I rented was clearly a lipstick on a pig situation. The worst part by far is when a family emergency required me to break my lease early to return to the east coast, they gave me the option to just ride out my lease and they'd reimburse me once they got a new tenant in. I stupidly went with that and expected that they would be considerate (this was an emergency after all, and in many states the law would allow someone in my situation to break a lease without any fees or repercussions), and also look at market conditions before just asking more than what I had been paying. They advertised the apartment at $1450 when there were four brand new buildings within a half mile with lower rent ($1250 was the lowest I saw, and yes it was a one bedroom not a studio), more amenities, and they were all offering promotions with up to SIX WEEKS FREE. Out of touch much? The apartment sat empty for nearly two months while I paid my rent dutifully and on time. They did a poor job of trying to fulfill their end of the bargain by finding a tenant to take my place. They blamed this on the owner, stating that she didn't want to ask a reasonable rate, which I guess makes sense when she has a paying tenant. After the official end of my lease they ended up lowering the rent to less than what I had been paying and finally managed to find a tenant. So if you are a tenant, pay your lease break fee if you need to leave early. They took nearly 31 days after the official end of my lease to return my security deposit (which was about 80 days after I moved out and turned in my keys). The "accounting" was sloppy, just like everything else with them. My paperwork included why they withheld another tenant's security deposit. To me this was just one last reminder of how they don't do things right or pay attention to details. I did get every cent of my security deposit back, which was almost shocking after the experience I had. I'm imagining that this is because they were aware that I had consulted with a tenant lawyer and was eagerly awaiting a misstep on their part. Point blank: they didn't do anything illegal, but they sure aren't ethical (allowed me to pay rent for a vacant apartment that they refused to offer at a reasonable rate, didn't return security deposit until nearly 80 days after I moved out and handed over my keys). Part of this is on me, as it was my family emergency that required me to leave, and I should not have agreed to pay until they found a tenant without asking for details. Renting sucks but it shouldn't suck this much. Why two stars? Their pet policy is reasonable: extra $1,000 deposit but no pet rent. read more

My husband and I rented a duplex, sight unseen for 6 months. They were very available and eager to help when we were signing the lease and very difficult to get a hold of when we were tenants. They denied completing a walk through with us initially and at the end of our lease. Luckily we took some photos to eradicate the "damages" they conveniently blamed on our older dogs. The tenants before us occupied the unit for 15 years and they were trying to blame much of the previous tenants wear and tear on us. They have taken advantage of all 31 days to return our deposit and are still withholding large sums. They have been rude and continue to ignore our emails until we persist. Also they have hung up on me on the phone several times. Regretting this experience entirely. Don't look for rentals with century 21 turner properties. I only put 1 star because that's the least amount possible. His response to this post further demonstrates my point: they're a**holes. read more

We rented an older home for over 10 years directly from the owners who turned the rental arrangements over to Turner Properties. We dealt with John and he was always great. When we moved out a friend moved in and rent was immediately almost doubled. I understand the market with rent nowadays so that was troubling, but not an issue. The issue is that this house has not had any form of heat updated in it for over 20 years ..the oil furnace controls were covered when we moved in so we relied solely with the fireplace which I just found out from talking to my friend Turner Properties nailed over when she moved in..leaving her and her daughter paying astronomical rent with no heat source in the house. Worse yet when this single mother's lawn mower broke down and she was not able to mow the yard she was sent an eviction notice until she did..I don't know what has happened to Turner Property Management..John was great..she told me she does not know who John is she has always dealt with Nick. 3.5 out of 5....We rented from Turner for two + years. They were probably one of the best rental management property companies we've ever worked with. Those who've rented before know the bar is not particularly high. We had a really excellent time getting the unit. We rented sight unseen as we were moving from out of state and the unit was better than expected. The rental realtor Nick is awesome at what he does. Super easy to work with and very accommodating. The primary owner is also awesome. (John?) Again easy to work with accommodating and reasonable. The reason I give 3.5-5 stars is as a tenant they were good but their front desk person Jessica is literally one of the rudest people I've ever spoken to in my life. No matter what I was calling for or emailing about she was Kurt, condiscending and a poor listener. I work in leadership for a call center and literally teach people how to talk to customers for a living and I would never employ her. Additionally she ignored some significant issues with our unit that as a former insurance agent I knew would cause long term damage to the property if not addressed. There was mold and a water leak behind the washer dryer that she didn't send anyone out to deal with while we were renting. Long term this will cause significant rot and water damage which will be at the expense of the current owners. So I would never recommend them to manage your home as long as Jessica is employed. However the rest of the staff were top notch. If you can avoid dealing with her and just work with everyone else then I'd say definitely do. They overall gave us a good tenant experience. And our actual landlords we're Amazing and would fix most things timely. We got about 50% of our deposit back after being there two+ years with a dog and not having time to do a really great move out clean so I think they handled that fairly. We lived at the unit on 60th and Everett in Portland. If the owners of that unit ever read this please know we loved living in that condo and appreciate you as landlords. read more

I've been working with Turner Properties for the better part of a year now and can't say enough great things about them. In that year Turner Properties has increased the cashflow on my duplex by over $500/month. They have also managed two unexpected turn overs flawlessly. Communication with the whole team is unbeatable. I feel welcomed with any and all questions that I dream up in the middle of the night and can count on a quick knowledgeable answer. Furthermore I have heard nothing but great things about them from my tenants and neighbors. read more

Beware! We rented a property through this management company, and it has been a nightmare. They tried to pressure us into renting site unseen, and now I see why. Our "immaculate" house is filthy; the walls, carpets, and vents are black around the edges to the point that we brought in a fire restoration company to determine whether there had been a fire in the house. While there were no obvious signs of a fire, they agreed that the property is "unusually dirty." In addition, the house was advertised as having "amazing Brazilian hardwood floors." They are cheap laminate. The employees at Turner Northwest have essentially stonewalled us regarding any requests to have the property properly cleaned or to let us out of our lease. Their responses are so canned regarding the floors ("as far as we know they ARE hardwood floors" and when pressed further "they are hardwood floors with a Brazilian cherry laminate finish") that it is obvious that this misrepresentation is common practice for them. We spoke to an attorney who specializes in tenant-landlord issues who confirmed that they falsely represented the property in their advertisement, but the hassle of bringing them to court is frankly not worth our time. In the mean time they hold a significant chunk of our money, and we are stuck. I would strongly advise renting elsewhere. read more

This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had regarding a rental management company; and I've had experience with many. Jessica Bridges was one of the most difficult and inconsiderate individuals to work with. We rented the property easy enough, however when we were told to meet to sign papers, we were given the property address not the home office address which is where we supposed to have gone. No one told us this. That should have been the first clue to our troubles. Our neighbors both above and next to us were some of the worst I've ever had the displeasure to know. Every time we made mention of this to Jessica, she told us to document it, which we did, but nothing was ever done. Nick Schultz also told us that if noise violations were a problem that fines would be imposed on the neighbors. This never happened. When we were finally reconciled to the fact that century21 would do nothing, we received notice that our unit was being sold and we had 90 days to find a new place to live. When we called Jessica to talk about this, we had to call 4 times before she finally responded and after that, she cc'd us on an e-mail that we really only had 30 days to find a new place to live. We keep our home immaculate and always pay rent on time. We were given no consideration for this. I wouldn't recommend Jessica or Nick to anyone ever or century21 properties. I sincerely hope nobody else has to deal with them either. read more
