This Santa Fe Century bank (Guadalupe branch) has gotten better than when I started going there over 2 decades ago. It offers pleasant and responsive staff inside the bank (drive-through can be a little slow), and offer a nice environment for notary services. It is FDIC insured. It offers quality safety deposit boxes at reasonable rates. But the bank has not offered competitive rates or returns for our needs. Fees are higher than we get elsewhere. We had to stop depositing large checks from clients, because excessively long holds were put on our money even when the checks were issued by banks like JP Morgan. (We maintained good credit and never bounced a check.) read more

Drive throughs are consistently extremely slow for no good reason. This is unreasonable and wastes a lot of time.

This bank will, I repeat WILL rearrange your debit card transactions to there benefit so they can rack up overdraft fees. They will take all your big transactions first then let the small ones hit. A picture attached is what happens once you use overdraft protection. read more

I've banked here since I opened my small business 7 years ago- two accounts for 7 years. This spring I prepared to open a business savings account, then Covid hit- I know its hard- but I contacted then THREE separate times and never got a call back. I finally found someone willing to talk to me, she emailed a list of what I would need, documentation wise, I got it together and took it to the drive up-per instruction- that was three days ago. I have heard 0 back. And the snobbish attitude of the woman helping me, and the lecture about Covid, blah blah blah didn't do her any favors. Can you do business or not? If you can, then DO. I was willing and DID everything she told me I needed to do. I keep wondering if there is a problem with this bank- like no money or something- in which case you'd think they would LOVE to open an account??? Anyway- I will be opening my savings somewhere else. Then eventually move all my accounts to wherever I decide actually values my business. 7 years is a long time to redirect all my autopays etc- Unnecessary aggravation during an already rough time for small businesses in this town. Worst banking experience I have ever had--seriously! It took the customer service person 3 weeks to open my account. The managers don't pay attention to what they are doing, don't do what they promise, are lazy and not as knowledgeable as their staff. I got tired 0f constantly calling them to remind them to finish projects I had requested. They couldn't keep anything straight. The final straw was them sending me a notice of my payment schedule for my loan two weeks after it had been paid off. Idiots. Hate this bank! read more

BY FAR THE WORST BANKING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. Treating a customer, minister and grieving daughter like total crap is totally acceptable. After my mother's death I tried to access the lock boxes she had at Century bank. The boxes were in the Churchs' name which she left in my care. The Bank manager told me that we needed a document showing that I was now director of the church. I provided that document and then she said it was insufficient. I tried every way I could to resolve the issue but they would not let me have access. I had to go home to Minnesota and take a whole other trip just try to resolve the matter. During my next trip the supervisor and the bank manager or involved and they told me that despite providing more and more documentation it was never enough. But they couldn't tell me what documentation would be sufficient. I spent four hours in the bank and was so frustrated that I wanted to cry. They actually suggested that I had made up a pretend the Board of Directors and was trying to defraud the bank. I show them proof that my mother who had set up the accounts had referred to all of us as the Board of Directors within two weeks of her dying. But somehow that wasn't enough. So I wasted an entire trip to Santa Fe for nothing. Before I left the supervisor and the bank manager told me if I got a personally hand signed and notarized document from the primary board members then I could access the boxes. The Board of Directors members live all over the country so I spent two weeks getting these documents ready having them all individually sign and notarize them and send them to the bank. But was that enough? NO. The bank manager did not respond to my request about whether they received the documents and finally when I did get confirmation they received them she insisted that now I needed all seven members of the board to have hand signed and notarized documents and that I had to prove again that I was the director. IT HAS BEEN TWO MONTHS OF PURE HELL working with this bank and still I cannot access my mothers last will and testament which is in the lock box. All the probate court processes are held up and nothing and move forward because this bank is obstructing my legal access to these boxes. Avoid this bank like the plague. Weeks later: A bank rep responded to my yelp review and said that the issue was now resolved. No, it's not at all resolved. I got a letter from Century Banks lawyer said that I was "making threats" when I told them I would post my experience on Yelp and complain to the Federal reserve about how I have been treated. He offered no compromise or acknowledgement that that bank is being unreasonable and demanding endless paper work - long after we have proved our legal right to the safety deposit boxes. I had to actually hire a lawyer to move forward. So now not only has Century bank caused me a great deal of frustration and suffering and kept me from accessing my safety deposit boxes, it's now also costing me significant amounts of money to have to pay a lawyer to handle this issue. It's totally ridiculous and shows horrible banking practices and customer service. read more

WORST BANK IN SANTA FE. POOR CUSTOMER "SERVICE". ARCHAIC, FEEBLE ONLINE BANKING. Their website is like using a BBS on dial-up back in 1995. I've been frequently locked out for no reason. It's almost impossible to reset access. The error message I got earlier today was "Your account is not eligible for password reset online - please call our phone support line." Of course, it's now AFTER BUSINESS HOURS, when they don't have anyone available to answer said support line!! So, perhaps sometime during the week - I guess whenever it's convenient for THEM. Pathetic and sad! Further, the in-bank customer "service" is bizarre and lacking. I need to refinance the house I own in Santa Fe. Obnoxious idiots at the Federal Place branch outright refused to even tell me the rate offered - despite the fact that I pulled up their website - with the interest rates clearly stated - on my phone IN THE BANK and showed it to them! The lady claimed I needed to go to a different branch to find "another lender" - um, no, I am asking about Century Bank to "keep my money local"! Century apparently does not want my business for a quarter-million-dollar loan. Oh well, I tried. Bottom line: AVOID and LOOK ELSEWHERE. As an alternative, I've found the national banking giant Bank of America to be professional, courteous, fast, and highly responsive to my needs, with a superlative website and reliable mobile app. B of A also has features I need and use frequently, such as cash deposits 24 hours a day at ATMs and foreign currency purchases. read more

While the tellers are very sweet, this is a very unprofessional bank. My husband and I moved here from another state and opened an account with them. The signing up process was a long ordeal. We then applied for a construction loan and were led to believe that we were qualified borrowers. The entire process was dragged out again for more that 6 months and collapsed when they sent a under qualified lazy appraiser who didn't even manage to visit our property. I have a mortgage with this bank. They have made some pretty serious mistakes with my account and after trying to resolve them with people who simply don't seem to have a great deal of professionalism, I have found that it is best to simply go to the head of the department where I have gotten very good treatment. I'm kind of stuck here since it is a long mortgage, so knowing who to go to is key. read more

This bank doesn't have the greatest reputation here in Santa Fe, but when they make mistakes, and it happens, they always buck up and take responsibility. I bank here personally and I like the fact that the tellers are always friendly, and the ones at my local branch know me by my first name when I use the drive through, before they see my deposits and withdrawls! Worst Bank I have ever come across!!! They claim to be "Local", but this is not truly the case. The online banking is a joke, and don't EVER, EVER do a commercial/business loan with this bank. A number of years ago our business accounts and our owner's personal accounts were transferred to Century Bank -- downtown Santa Fe. Our experience with our previous banks was generally ok, with some really bad exceptions, but since we've moved to Century, we realize how much better Century is. As the bookkeeper, I've had most of the dealings and transactions with the bank; although the boss has had plenty herself and would concur with what I say. Never have we had a less that wonderful experience with any of the folks at the bank. There have been mistakes, but predominately those mistakes were on our side, and the Century folks have been super quick to help and solve our problems. I wish I knew the names of all the bank personnel I've dealt with, for all deserve kudos. But I particularly want to "shout out" to Anita Dunmar for all her help and patience in bringing our company into the 21st century internet-ly speaking, and current branch manager, Shannon Maxwell, and her assistant manager, Sharon Gallegos. I throw curve balls at all three of them all the time -- and all three of them hit homers. They are quick to respond and accurate in their responses. And that's true not just of my work with them with emails and phone calls, but also when I go in person. If I go in to see a teller and they are currently busy with someone else, I will get a "I'll help you" from Shannon, or Sharon, or whoever is at the desks nearby, who will then drop what they're doing to help me right then and there.
