It was such a cute, small pottery shop close to the north of Capitol Hill, I would say. I like the variety of pottery and colors to choose from. However, I signed up for an hour and a half, and I recommend signing up for the maximum three hours and reserving in advance, especially on the weekends! We had such a great experience at Ceramics in the city! We had a large party to celebrate a birthday. Ceramics in the city made it super easy for all of the guests. The different paint options were explained in details to all of us. We were also given guidance and feedback when we needed it. The entire experience was really relaxed and fun. There are several options of crafts to paint. The overall price was fair (sorta expensive) and you will need to pick up your creation in a week after you paint. We came here as a family with the teens to get creative on a snowy wet spring Friday. We had a reservation. I'd recommend that, and/or get here right when they open at 11:00. We were greeted and given a tutorial on the pottery selections and paint. Staff was friendly and answered all our questions. We chose some pieces and got to work. The whole experience took around 90 minutes. This is our second time here but first time doing a review. The space is warm and friendly and well organized. It's a little tight when the crowds arrive, hence the advice to arrive early. I'll update when we get the finished pieces back. They told us it would take 5-7 days. The only odd thing is as you are paying/checking out, they ask if you want to tip. This is where I always feel guilty, if I don't think asking for a tip is necessary. Everyone here is nice and knowledgeable, but a tip? Hmmm. Well I did leave a tip but I find it to be questionable. So be prepared to pay one way or another, because this place isn't cheap. My girlfriend and I were excited to check this place out, but our experience was completely soured by one of the employees. They had an incredibly rude and dismissive attitude from the start, and made us feel completely unwelcome. We tried to stay polite, but the way we were treated was downright disrespectful. It was shocking and disappointing, and we ended up leaving early. I rarely leave reviews, but this one really stuck with me -- no one should be made to feel like that when they're just trying to enjoy a local business. Won't be returning. read more

I brought my 7 and 11 year old cousins here and my boyfriend. I have one complaint: The ceramics available are kind of boring. We all four, ages 7-35, struggled to find something we wanted to paint. Also, plan on spending at least $24 on you piece you want, or possibly an additional $10-15 per person. The $20 pieces are things you likely won't want. Besides that we had a great time! The staff was super helpful, offering suggestions, best practices and even helping my little cousin finish her piece. I wish they had more finished samples to give you a better idea of what your piece will look like after it's fired. But we did our best! Pictures attached. You can bring your own drinks and snacks (not sure about alcohol - I would guess no). Plan to spend 2+ hours here, and then go get drinks at the Owl or Bellweather next door, or Nuggs ice cream. The staff was really friendly and explained all the different processes they have from painting to glazing to screen printing clip art. Absolutely loved this place. There are a lot of other pottery places in the Denver area but I'm super glad we went to Ceramics in the City! My bf and I made a reservation online a few hours ahead of time (not sure if that's required though) and when we first walked in, Katie welcomed us and explained the whole process to us. She was extremely helpful our whole visit and helped us decide on glaze colors and techniques! There were so many different pottery pieces to choose from, all ranging in price. The paints and glazes available were all so beautiful it was so hard to choose which ones I wanted to use. I could probably spend all day there if I could! Also the music there was bomb. Whoever chose the playlist has great taste! Lol I can't think of a single con about this place. Everybody working there was extremely kind and helpful and very knowledgeable about pottery. For $60/ person to throw (in a group), it was very restrictive and a sort of cold environment. The girls could not paint their pieces unless we paid more, the girls only had a few choices of colors unless we paid more, the girls got a very small amount of clay each (enough to make a ring dish), and when they asked how to make handles, we were told those would be $20 more. So our group experience was more like we paid a full tank of gas for a van each to learn how to make very tiny bowls that could be one of 5 colours but couldn't actually do anything else. Maybe the ceramic-painting side is better? They were in a different room and appeared to have more fun. I would 100% not recommend the pottery wheel experience, especially since they reuse so much of their clay and are so restrictive with group pricing creativity. They also rush you. We paid for 2 hours and the adults were under the impression that this included 2 hours of shaping/throwing but it was really 90 minutes and then they stopped the teens to clean for the last 30, which I thought would come AFTER our 2 hours. So be advised you're paying $50-60 per person for a tiny bit of clay, only a few colour choices, no painting, no extra skills, and 90 minutes to throw and shape. There were many beautiful pieces there so I think they reserve the good attention, time, and creative options for members who do regular classes. For one class for a party, it was a sterile experience and we all agreed we were glad we had it but we're all done with pottery. read more

I adopted a second cat and thought I should get another Halloween candle votive for my new cat. I saw a great sample on the floor. It was a haunted house with the moon. Stephanie understood that I wanted a haunted house with a cat. She searched for a Halloween cat and found a cat on a broom. She printed out the cat in a right size, so I could trace the cat on the moon. She is very hands on and I really appreciated it. For the rest of the time, I spent a long time painting the haunted house - just like a kid. I really enjoyed myself. Here's my project ! It came out a lot better than I was expecting:) read more

Walked in at 6:20 with a group of 5 girls and was greeted by an unhappy face. The girl working at the front desk asked what we were doing there and proceeded to tell us that she was trying to go home early. The hours listed on google and the website say that they close at 8pm. We were all confused. The girl asked if we would "be quick" because she wanted to go home and she was trying to dissuade us from staying because "projects take longer than you would think." I find it strange that an employee was trying to turn away 5 eager, paying customers more than an hour and a half before closing. The employee was rude, condescending, and rushed us the entire time. We all felt so anxious being there. We were hoping for a nice night to unwind and be creative. Very disappointing and unprofessional. read more

A group of friends from the stables got together to do something a little different than talk horse. We had such a great time choosing something to paint, having a tutorial from Sharon, and then deciding on what to paint, silk screen, or transfer. A plus is BYOB, we had champagne and treats (do not bring greasy stuff as it gets on your ceramic). This shop is so much fun and offers a lot more than ceramics. There is glass fusion and painting as well. Prices are great and include instructions and all your tools. After you paint, you leave your piece to be fired and it is ready about a week later. I highly recommend Ceramics in the City and suggest you look at the schedule before you go. They have family days, kid only classes, parties, team building, and of course rowdy horse friends night. This is the absolute PERFECT place to go if you want to partake in any of the following things: 1. Girls night. I came here with about 12 other girls in celebration of my best friends birthday, not only can you paint pottery of your choice, but they offer blown glass options as well as the traditional canvas paintings [with and without an instructor]. It was beyond fun, and a great way to spend some creative time with friends. 2. Want to let your creative juices flow. I find myself to be decently crafty, but when offered a blank canvas, i had no idea what to paint. i settled on a piece of pottery and painted away. not to mention, alcoholic beverages [wine in particular] aid to my creativity and even more awesome...they allow you to bring your own drinks and food, which we gladly did! 3. In the mood for something different, on a budget! Having never been to one of these before, i had no idea what to expect...well not entirely anyway. I went with an open mind and ended up having a blast. the staff is beyond helpful in explaining the processes the glass & pottery goes through before you can take it home, in addition to how to make the best piece. Dusting, cleaning and layering were only a few things mentioned, but aided to my awesome piece. Also, depending on the pieces you choose, the evening was quite cheap. my little dish was a whopping $16 total, including paint and supplies. Coasters, mugs, piggy banks and the glass are a little more expensive but worth it. However, the canvas price is fixed. $25 total :) 4. Before going out with friends! It's located right in uptown and literally 2 blocks from all things cool that uptown has to offer. Steubens anyone? Overall, i LOVE and adore this cute shop. I liked Ceramics in the City. I was visiting family in Denver and wanted to do some pottery painting (I do it quite often in MD). I chose Ceramics over other paint your own pottery places in Denver because they don't have a studio fee. I refuse to paint at places with studio fees. They have a good selection of bisque pieces. I would have liked to have seen more functional items, such as different sizes of plates, mugs, and small dishes. At my local paint your pottery shop, they have a lot of specialty glazes that I've been experimenting with recently. A suggestion for this shop: carry Vanilla Spice by Gare. Other colors of specialty glazes can be layered on top of Vanilla Spice to create other colors, just like layering colors over Black Top. Also providing examples of layering might be more helpful to customers. The reasons why I'm taking off one star (4/5) are the prices for each piece were higher than I expected for an equivalent piece I've seen at multiple shops in Maryland and to ship the pieces to me, it costs $20, which I feel is quite high. read more

Came here with the besties looking forward to quality time with one another, painting enjoying ones company... until we were being rushed to get our pieces done because we walked in 1 hour and 30 mins before close. Guess what we finished at 7:40 with 20 mins left to spare. Again we were rushed just because the front desk gal decided she wanted to leave early from her shift to go home and not want to finish her shift even though ceramics closes at 8. Great place, inspiring environment but the girl at the front desk made us feel like we shouldn't have been there to have fun. I'd understand if we walked in 10-20 mins before close but we didn't and we still finished at good timing for her to close but still proceeded to be mean to us. read more

This place was excellent. Went on a Sunday with my daughter for the first time and unbeknownst to us, it was Family Day so there was an additional discount which was rad (they do different discounts each day of the week for specific things--see details on their site). All the employees we interacted with were very friendly and helpful. It was decently busy and crowded at 2 - 4 pm but that was no problem. Once they set us up with a table and explained how it works, it was basically self-serve (which I really liked). In addition to the ceramic pieces at the beginning, we were able to pick out our own paints, stencils, brushes, stamps, etc. and use the sink intermittently to rinse brushes, refresh the paint tray, wash hands, etc. When we were done painting we paid at the front and our pieces will be glazed, fired and ready for pickup within a week. They also offer conventional painting on canvas which we didn't do, but same basic concept. I've been to other ceramic painting places that charge by the hour (which can make you feel rushed), had far fewer brushes/materials and even limit you on paint selections, so I really appreciated the DIY aspect of C.i.t.C. and that there is no time limit, they really just set you loose on all the supplies which makes it easy, independent and fun. Fun experience and good selection. We went during Christmas break, and it wasn't very crowded. The screen printing is pretty cool. They show you how to do it. It's easy with great results. I like how you just pay for the pottery, and since there's no paint fee, I can help my kids. they each made their own item this time, but I'm having my husband take them back to make a large serving dish for a Mother's Day gift. The dish is around $40, and that's what I'd pay somewhere else just to have four painters. read more

Highly recommend! Signed up for the couples pottery class for my boyfriend and I. This was both of our first times ever doing pottery. Andrea was amazing and taught us all the basics of throwing! She was very patient and helped whenever we had questions. We were successfully able to make some pottery pieces that we were able to keep! The classes are offered at a very reasonable price and include keeping and firing 2 pieces per couple. We had so much fun and would definitely do it again! Such a memorable experience!! read more

These guys are great! They really have an organized system to get ceramics, paint, brushes if you want to do your ceramics off-site. They staff is extremely COVID safe with masks, gloves, and sanitizer in easy reach- so if you want to do ceramics on-site they have got that organized too. They really go out of there way to help you feel comfortable, offering to bring stuff out to your car and picking it up, etc. I really hope that this business sails through this pandemic in good shape! read more

We brought a co-worker here for her office baby shower. Seeing as I work with some incredibly talented artists, this was so much fun and a great idea for a baby shower. We all painted tiles (with a forest animal theme) for her to hang in the nursery. The prices seemed reasonable. The employees were friendly and helpful. The music was AWFUL. Nicole and I had a very mellow evening here. We brought our own cupcakes and had grilled cheeses next door before getting to work. I have been a few times before, but that was PY (Pre-Yelp). I have painted quite a few things there so I had a hard time deciding. I love to make things to give as gifts, so I made a picture holder for my mother in law. She makes the biggest fuss over anything I make, so I knew she would appreciate it. I also made myself and spoon rest because I always want one but don't ever seem to buy one. I love that you can just sit and paint for hours and not be bothered by anyone. The pottery is reasonably priced and there are so many options. The shop also offers silver jewelry, glass fusing and mosaic workshops. I havn't been to any of them but I always tell myself I will. A fun time can be had by all. My two year old and I spent a snowy Saturday morning at Ceramics in the City. Our mission - to paint a piggy bank for the new baby on the way. My son had it all planned out, until he saw the rocket. Plans do change. We spent a few hours painting a piggy bank and a rocket. There is a vast selection of ceramics and the staff is very helpful in getting you set up and ready to go. We were on a kid-themed mission today, but saw many ideas for gifts. Whether it be a Saturday family outings or a girls night with a bit of wine, there is plenty to potential projects to keep you coming back for more. The ceramics and studio time is reasonably priced and offers something for everyone. They also have fused glass and silver classes. I haven't tried either, but would like to do so. Although I would recommend this as a place for kids, I do advise that you must be able to keep your kids under control or at least occupied or it could be a very expensive outing as there are a lot of breakables. read more

Love this place. It makes me want to open my own pottery painting establishment and make it exactly like theirs. A friend of mine and I went a few weeks ago for a girls night out and it was AMAZING. This place has everything you can think of when it comes to paint colors. They must have over 75 colors to choose from. And the stencils and stamps are really well organized into categories like, flowers, quotes, animals, letters, etc, so it makes it really easy to find what you are looking for. The staff was really helpful in explaining the process to my friend, since it was her first time and making suggestions on painting techniques. What's really cool is that if you don't finish your project in time, you can take it home and bring it back at another time to finish it. They also offer at home painting parties, where they bring you a selection of items and all the paints and brushes and stencils you could want, so that you can do a fun party at your own home! Seriously a good idea for kids parties or a ladies brunch or something. Oh, and no sitting fees! The price on the pottery is the price you pay, no additional fees. I will definitely be back.
