This place is in beautiful down town Arvada. (This could make for difficult parking on the weekends). They have a great selection of pottery to paint. Mugs, plates, measuring cups, fun figurines, etc. Very family friendly, however there were also some adults there as well. I chose to paint a mug and it took about 2 weeks to get it back, just as they said. I received my mug back in perfect condition. Only reason I would take a star off is because their paint brush selection isn't the best, as some of the paint brushes have seen a better day. Note that there is a $9 studio fee. So, if you break up your project into several visits, you will pay the pottery price once, and the studio fee each time you visit. Staff are very kind and helpful. Would go back again! read more

We took my 9 year old daughter to Into The Fire. She made something she was proud of, and they lost it. I know that mistakes happen. But they seem not to care much... trying to offset it by giving us a $15 in gift certificate which wouldn't even cover the pottery (not even considering covering their studio fee). Been coming to this place for a couple years with my daughter. We've had such great experiences with the staff there and their prices are pretty reasonable as these paint-your-own-pottery places go. But I have to say that I'm pretty disappointed after our last visit. A piece that I painted as a gift for my mom was smudged with black by whoever glazed it. This definitely wasn't there when I left the shop after painting it. I feel like the staff should've noticed it, told me about it, and at least offered me an apology if not a discount on my next visit. We've easily spent hundreds of dollars at this shop over the past year and this just feels crummy. Now my gift has this huge gross smudge on it. read more

THEY LOST MY PIECE. I've been going to paint pottery every year for Mother's Day with my mom since I was 5. I WILL NEVER BE COMING BACK. I understand sometimes pieces get broken in the kiln- that is part of the risk of this activity. However, apparently staff is so careless at this location they will just completely LOSE your pieces. I sat for two hours put a lot of effort into this gift for my mom, and they couldn't even keep track of it. Incredibly unprofessional, lazy, and once again just straight up careless. I'm so pissed about this I had to write my very first Yelp review. Super upset that ya'll are this irresponsible with your customers artwork. You lost a lifelong customer. Loved this place!! You get to pick out whatever you want to paint and you pay a base fee ($8 for adults) plus the cost of the item/s you're painting. We did some pumpkins for Halloween. The owners are very helpful and tell you everything you need to know to get started. Once you're done, they finish the pieces and you get to pick them up in a week! I made a reservation and took my elderly mother here to find something to paint. The staff were very welcoming and explained the process in discrete steps. My mom quickly found a vase with scalloped edges to paint, and I found a candy dish. The clerk showed the results of one, two, and three coats of paint, and then took us to the paint and paint brush area to choose our supplies. My mom and I had a BLAST! It was very cathartic to relax, paint, and make pleasant small talk. The other patrons were kind and respectful of others. The studio allows external food and drink, which was very appreciated as I took water and soda for my mom. The supplies, while well-used, were still very pliable and functional. Around 90 minutes later, our masterpieces were finished. The checkout process was fast and clear, and was told that our pieces could be picked up in a week. read more

In a past life I fancied myself an artist. I spent years trying a little of this and a little of that - everything from Navajo & Hopi weaving to throwing and firing Raku pottery. I even married a couple of artists - one who could create beauty in any medium and, yet to this day paints only to sell - and one who created a life sculpture that continues to inspire and, yet he only did it once and never again. But I have always felt a kindred spirit to creation. So, after some time exploring, I finally settled on technical art, which I made my living at for a number of years. But creation, even if I'm not good at it, is in my soul. So I learned that using my hands, mixing colors, creating designs, drawing lines & circles & abstract reality makes my heart sing and calms my head. Today I was invited to go to "Into the Fire," a paint your own pottery studio. Naturally, I scoffed. Painting greenware? I think not! No self-respecting artist would do such a thing! But it was a very good friend who had received a gift certificate, so off we went. In the back of my mind, I was just going to watch. But when we arrived, I saw all the options, both raw and already fired, and I thought "Heck, I can do this. Piece of cake." Besides, if it turns out I will have my first Holiday gift. And, if it doesn't, no one needs to know that I fell Into the Fire! It was therapy! I painted slip on greenware slowly and patiently. I chose my colors carefully. Careful placement of color will, hopefully, bring life to a factory made piece of greenware. In a week I will pick up my creation, but for today my head is clear and my worries have all been painted over. It was "cheaper than therapy!" And I am still somewhat of an artist, aren't I? This is perfect for any young child/ anyone who wants to explore their little artsy side. The pots are already molded and all you gotta do is paint those babies! They have hello kitty which is my dream come true. I love how you can paint fairies, cups, mugs, jugs, characters and I believe they let you create your own. There is a very strict rule where you have to wash your hands-- especially if you have lotion or hand oil. It ruins the carefully made pottery. Don't worry!! It's been a while since I have painted pottery. Years ago I used to run a paint your own pottery studio. I miss painting. Some friends invited me to go...two different dates and 6-7 hours of painting I came away with an awesome modern bowl. The selection of bisque here is great. They have a lot of options from usable items to the silly figurines that kids like to paint. Also Tuesday's are two for one studio fee so that's always a bonus! The staff is super nice and helpful. Took my nephew in so he could make presents for my mom (nana) and his mom for Christmas. Walked in (was told I should call before, a little snappy), so we went home and came back two hours later. He decided to paint a snowman and a santa clause. He made it all the way through painting both items and loved picking his own paints. Staff was helpful and very energetic, especially when dealing with so many little guys. Went back a week later to pick up and had two really cool gifts. Took my husband here for a day date. Didn't make a reservation, just walked in and we were seated immediately. The girl was super friendly. Showed us where everything was and talked us through what to do in steps and then left us alone to have fun. She periodically checked in on us. I do recommend if you plan on being very detailed get in early, I took 3.5hrs to paint my gnome. My husband took 1hr to paint his pineapple. The prices aren't terrible and I was extremely impressed with the selection of pottery. I got a punch card and fully plan on going back! read more

RUDEST BUNCH OF PEOPLE EVER! My husband and I like to paint pottery and we've been to a few places but this place was downright rude. Our first time there and they were bent out of shape because we did not have a reservation and they reluctantly gave us a table. They were not helpful AT ALL when we asked questions. Midway through painting a small treasure box my husband got very sick and we needed to leave and asked them if they could store it until we could come back the following week. NOPE no way, refused. Really!!!! Every store we've painted at we were able to store a piece if we needed to return later. WE WILL NEVER RETURN NOR RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! We took our pieces home and ate the firing fee (studio fee) and ended up back at a wonderful place in Evergreen that is ALWAYS friendly and helpful! read more

I don't go to Into the Fire expecting to be able to create interesting or pretty items that I can give away as gifts. Although wouldn't THAT be cool, watching the glee in a loved one's eyes as they open my package, stunned that it was handmade. "This will go perfectly in my kitchen!" Yeah, right. It'll never happen. I don't go here for the stuff - I go here for the experience of meeting up with friends, enjoying a snack or two while we paint and catch up on one another's lives. I have been here about 5 times and each time I have highly enjoyed myself. After a really difficult event in my life I came here to paint for like 6 hours and it was such a therapeutic fun time for me. I have taken my daughter here and her friends for a fun artistic afternoon. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I'll absolutely love this place! Here is a few things you might need to know before you come because it is a tiny place. 1.) They do take reservations so call ahead to reserve a table. You can reserve for a single person or you can reserve for a party. But you will need to reserve either the day before or early when they first open. They do book up fast so that is why I am recommending that you call ahead. They do take walk ins but if its a day when they have a lot of tables but you will not be able to go in that day. 2.) You have a table sitting she is $8 that helps pay for paint and some of the other materials that you use while you're there. Other than that you select the item you're going to pay for which has the price on it and then you pay at the end. 3.) They normally have about an hour to two hours sitting time for you. On average that's about how much time people take to make a piece. But if you're someone who likes to add great detail make sure you let them know that you plan on being there longer than 2 hours just out of courtesy. 4.) If you just had a baby this place does a really cool little thing where they take a four inch tile and allow you to put your baby's footprint on there for free. They will help you with this and it is just a neat little offering gift that they give to new moms or new families. 5.) You wait one week and are able to pick up your items after a week of when you painted them. I highly recommend this place especially if you're crafty and artistic and like to do something fun. It can get a little expensive each piece so be sure that you watch your budge as you grab lots of pieces. But most important have fun I've made some really neat things and absolutely just have loved my time and cherish the items I made. read more

This used to be my favorite place to go to. I have been going since I was a junior in high school in 2004. Never again will I go! First off, I know how busy they can be and how long it takes me to paint. So I called and made an appointment. What was the ladies response, "are you sure you need all day?" I internally laughed a little bit and replied yes. I painted a beer mug that I had purchased in Longmont, so I even paid a bigger firing fee than normal. Which is fine. $8 firing fee vs a $20 tank of gas to drive back to Longmont. (I bought it a month ago in between my classes, mistake number one). Mistake number 2 was going to Into the Fire to paint it. Parking is horrid. It literally took me like 15 minutes to find a spot. That "free" parking garage? Yeah. It has a 4 hr max and then you have to leave it. You can't just move your car to a different floor. You have to leave. Have you tried to find parking in Olde Town recently? It's evil. But, I digress. So I go to paint and am met with attitudes the second I open the door. I didn't even get a refresher on how to wipe the pottery down or anything. I had to eavesdrop on the lady, it might be Kathy's daughter not sure, explaining the process to a different customer. Now. In the 13 years that I have been painting pottery I have never had to use a mechanical pencil. What was at my table? A mechanical pencil. The regular pencil wasn't sharpened (again... I had an appt and the table was NOT prepared, awesome). Didn't think anything of it, at the time, because they ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS say that the pencil burns off. This time? It interacted with the glaze and now I have a Beer mug that was supposed to be a Christmas present for my Husband and it has areas on it where the glaze did not cover. So, basically, if it gets wet, it will (eventually) rot from the inside out. Or so the individual running the shop told me. Their solution? Put clear nail polish on it. I'm sorry. But this thing cost me about $40. I DO NOT want to put clear nail polish on it! Rather toss it in the trash. So I came home and caved. I put the nail polish on it. What did I discover? More unprotected, glaze free areas! Seriously? NO! This is supposed to be a cup! How can it be a cup if the liquids it carries/is washed with cause it to disintegrate because of THEIR mistakes? So. Now I have a $40 piece of poop Christmas present that I rather just toss in the trash. I am never going back. And this is the 10th item I have painted there and have NEVER had an issue with the pencil before. Seriously angry. read more

The customer service is terrible. I went there for many years and it's been on a terrible decline. I went with a friend one day and she did this cool bubble technique with soap and paint. When I went back the next time, the lady working tried to tell me I couldn't do it because she didn't think I was advanced enough and that I'd mess it up. I'm a former chalk artist and spend a lot of time on art projects. I'm not a child. On another visit, when I finally decided I will not be returning, the lady refused to honor my mom's reward punch card because they "don't do that anymore." They also kept interrupting me painting to try to tell me how I should do it. Again, I've painted pottery before and have at least a little artistic knack. They've never been the friendliest people, but their customer service is practically non-existent at this point. My thought, if you don't enjoy working with the public, don't work a job where you're meant to interact with them. read more

It was a good experience and fun atmosphere once we got there, but the staff member I spoke with when I called to make a reservation was curt and a bit rude, but was able to fit us in. Also, when I was working on my piece, I used a mechanical pencil that I found in the supply jar on the table, to draw a design. When I picked it up yesterday, the lady pointed out to me that where I had used the mechanical pencil had bubbled and the glaze didn't really adhere properly. She told me that I must have pushed too hard, and that as long as I didn't put spaghetti on the plate, it would be fine. It's not a huge deal to me because I made the plate as a decorative piece, but they should make sure there aren't mechanical pencils on the tables if they mess with the final look/functionality of the piece. read more
