While the staff were courteous and had a professional manner, the work was mediocre at best for the price we paid to have the deck stained. We had them come back to fill in knotholes that hadn't been painted, but have discovered so more instances of a rush job of poor painting (e.g. over tape, missed surfaces, etc). I highly recommend CertaPro Painters of Berkeley, CA. The crew for my two-story home was a two-person team, Jorge (Foreperson) and Domingo. The original estimate was done by the owner, Soumil. He checked in on the team's job a couple of times and called me to check in during the project. The estimate was competitive. Due to unexpected wood rot there was an additional carpentry cost added on over the course of the project. I felt that the additional fee was fair given the amount of work. The Foreperson worked with me to figure out how to prioritize the repairs within my budget. The preparation and carpentry work took a good deal of the eight-day project. The team was detail oriented and consulted with me to make sure I was aware of and agreed upon with each step. I found it was important for the homeowner (me) be available, by text or in-person to respond to questions or updates by the foreperson. The final paint job result is nothing less than perfect. There were a few times I wanted attention to something and I found Jorge and Domingo incredibly responsive. I worried I was being annoying but they didn't make me feel that way--they just attended to the issues. The painters worked incredibly hard including having to get to very high (dangerous) places and tight spots for carpentry and painting. Driving up to my home, and seeing my home painted so beautifully, is a pleasure. read more

I highly recommend CertaPro of Berkeley. They painted the exterior of my house. It is large and parts of it had not been painted for 31 years. Edras led the crew, which was usually just him and his brother. They listened to what I wanted, and even though there were changes along the way, they easily adapted to what I wanted. They cleaned up every day. They were the only company that said they would prime the complete house. I'm not sure if that was because the paint was so old or if they always do that. They were very easy to have around. They were respectful and quiet (no music). they even added a special primer where the paint was peeling because of moisture. The house looks beautiful. I cannot recommend this business. CertaPro quoted me a crazy high amount - over 10K for an interior house paint. I also had the appt schedule for the quote and they tried to reschedule the meeting last minute. They did keep the meeting as scheduled after I provided feedback that was not okay and not going to work for me. I got the job done for less that 4K and it looks great via a painter on Thumbtack. Also CertPro tried to quote me for services I did not request. I didn't need or want ceilings done but they tried to upsell that too. Not a good use of my time and also stupid expensive. CertaPro's price quotes were both fair - the work done was of high-quality and while a different foreman (Jeronimo) and crew than last time - they were equally friendly, skilled and trustworthy. They were prompt every day, worked hard and took care of our home while we went out of town during the latter part of the project. They did a great work and we've received consistent compliments on the job done! After working with Certapro on two jobs, our only constructive feedback is that details aligned on during each walk-through were missed during the job. There were even parts of the project that we removed from the scope in the walk-through, that were done anyways. It wasn't at an additional cost for us - just less efficient for them & that could've made the process simpler. Simple fix: I'd suggest they took notes during the walk-through! This is a business that I can not recommend. Our house was in need of a full exterior paint job and CertaPro Berkeley was one of a group of companies we reached out to for quotes. Their quote was neither the cheapest nor most expensive but based on prior reviews and the estimator's attention to detail and responsiveness decided to choose them. Fast forward four years, and we have had multiple issues that are beyond their warranty period and they are not willing to address without charge. Our house is predominantly stucco and we opted for the package which included elastomeric paint (eg. paint that "flexes" such that it hides cracks better and prevents water seepage). We've had issues with efflorescence showing up, which basically means there is water seepage and either our house was not prepped properly before painting or there are quality issues with the paint job. They did come by to fix within the warranty period but these spots have since reappeared. We also had them repaint our deck which started peeling 2 years post and now looks horrendous. Probably the last straw for me was the significant paint cracks and blistering that have already been appearing and in one instance they painted over ivy that had attached to the building without removing. And with one of the cracks having developed the ivy is now growing out of that spot. One star for the estimator and one additional star for communication and management during the paint project. read more

I took time off of work and made myself available. 11:30 rolls around and nobody shows up. No call. No text. No email. 11:45 rolls around and I get a call asking to reschedule to later in the day. After talking with them it was clear they knew they would be late and didn't bother to inform me before the scheduled time which I find unprofessional and discourteous seeing as how I took time off to be available for them. I got a halfhearted apology filled with excuses none of which explained why they didn't inform me prior. I cancelled the appointment and told them I will go elsewhere since they can't respect my time. Good painters. Painted my house so good I am in love with it. Timely work and very nice staff.

I thought from the tremendously positive reviews that getting my house painted would be a fairly painless process. That was not the case. This company has way too many people in charge and they all have different ideas about what should be happening versus what actually is. When I got the quote I was offered quality service with care for details. I got the opposite. The painters did not properly clean and sand and so the paint did not adhere completely (the front door has started peeling not even a month after completion) . Plants were destroyed (a massive orange tree is now half white from being sprayed with paint). Fragile windows were cracked and then I had to repeatedly ask for them to be fixed and pay for the additional costs associated. The edges between paint colors and on the windows were wobbly and had to be fixed by an additional painter brought on after the project was supposedly done. I constantly had to ask questions and push back when I was assured things were being done correctly and I could see that they were not. The communication was awful, the painting prep was terrible, the actual paint job was mediocre, and at the end there were multiple mistakes with received payments. I'm just a normal working class person, so painting the exterior of my home was a huge investment for me. I feel taken advantage of and that I will have to worry about upkeep of the paint during winter. If the paint already shows new cracks and peeled areas only a couple months after it was completed, I can only imagine a couple years from now. Don't fall for the positive reviews or the promises of the guy who does the quotes. You will be dissapointed. read more
