Good crew workers, but absolutely terrible communication from the office staff and supervisors!…read more The guy who did the initial inspection and estimate didn't describe the layout of our crawlspace to the crew correctly, so our 1-day job couldn't be finished on Day 1 (and because the on-site crew couldn't reach any supervisors to get guidance on how to proceed with a new plan since the original plan wasn't right). So a 1-day job that started on July 20th didn't get done until August 1st because they kept saying the crew was coming on a certain date/time but nobody would show up, so I'd contact the office again and they'd say the crew was coming but nobody would show up, and when the crew did finally get back here they had been told that we had removed a bush that was in the exact spot they needed to put a drain BUT NOBODY HAD MENTIONED REMOVING A BUSH TO US! And, once again, the crew couldn't get in contact with the supervisor! When he did finally talk to a supervisor they asked him if we wanted to have the drain set up in a different way that would mean the job got done that same day BUT their warranty would be invalid!! UM NO are you serious?! Absolutely asinine way to do business, I am shocked that they still get customers at all! So yeah, nobody from the office had called after the first appointment went awry to explain the situation and what they would be doing to fix it, nobody called when we had complained of the lack of communication to explain what was going on, but you can be SURE they billed me immediately after the job was finally done! No delays or waiting around to hear from their billing department haha. We will take our business elsewhere next time we need work like this done, for sure.

In March of 2024 we started the planning process with Somerset Outdoor for an outdoor project at my…read morehome in Greenwood, IN. The first half of the project the owner, Ian Anthony, had outstanding customer service; prompt communication and is very personable. There were unforeseen obstacles during the project and Mr Anthony's professionalism deteriorated. He independently determined the job was complete without a walk through together and decided the unfinished aspects would be considered warranty work. When final payment was not submitted at his demand, he promptly hired a lawyer and escalated to filing a lawsuit without doing the finishing touches. Given the opportunity to do it over, here's what I would have done differently: 1. Make sure I have a copy of the contract before they begin (even if they're having technology issues, delay project until I have it) 2. Make sure the warranty is clearly documented and don't put much stock in how much they promote integrity and "doing right by the customer". 3. Make sure the language on the invoices/contract states balance is "due upon completion and final walk through with customers." Different language is used on a couple of forms and Somerset will demand payment when they consider the job complete, not when they've done a walk through with the customer. 4. Ensure every detail of the install/purchasing process is outlined in the contract. I assumed proper installation and quality sourcing was included but, because those details were not on the contract, they argued it was not a requirement and Somerset should collect payment in full. 5. Researched small claims and connected with a lawyer before hiring Somerset Outdoor. In 10 days from Mr Anthony determining the balance was due, he sent certified mail demanding payment and hired a lawyer to collect payment in full instead of working on a resolution with me. I hope your experience is vastly different from mine. I was very impressed with them in the beginning, I would've never saw this coming. Proceed with caution.
