***DISGUSTING SERVICE*** Been a loyal customer [family of…read moreshoppers] at the store in Bury [Lancashire] for over a decade. Visited on 13-Sep-2021 and took 2 items to till both of which were in the sale section [lots of the same items were reduced]. Took items to till and and was informed by Team Leader or Manager that 1 of the items was not reduced. I asked if they would honour the price and first the staff member stated that customers change the labels! The insinuation here being that within seconds of entering the store and picking up the 2 items I had somehow managed to remove and replace the price tag in plane sight of security/staff [these items have tamper proof stickers so if you did try to peel them off they fall apart]. Then informed that all items had been reduced in error and they would not honour the price. The staff member basically did not want to resolve the issue and demonstrated a real bad attitude. I was with my wife so remained calm, polite throughout, did not raise my voice, did not swear. The only comments made by me were "this is not good service" and that "I will leave the items". I then contacted SmythsToys online to purely make them aware of the mislabelling and was informed [QUOTE] "....our staff will not tolerate abusive behaviour... we define abuse in our internal guidance as shouting, swearing, name-calling, threatening, disrespecting, personally insulting, or attempting to blackmail". It seems despite having security staff, CCTV, a full customer account of events where all a customer wants is an apology that SmythsToys would choose to trust a poorly trained and arrogant employee than loyal customer who ultimately pay their salaries. Think I will be buying all our computing games, toys, bikes etc from elsewhere.

As well as the issue with mobile phones - which I've explained in detail in the review for the Brighton store, this store as a HUGE selection of pre-owned goods to the point it becomes more like an exchange store, similar to CeX so the selection of new products seemed to be quite rare in the store - the products that were "new" were really expensive too - much more expensive than giants Amazon and other retailers - now considering Game is the major player in their industry with no other store which is similar surviving, you'd expect there to be some decent deals other than on the pre-owned games - are they seriously trying to go down the CeX model? The staff also seemed disinterested - there were two staff members working which was good however they might as well have not been there at all with staff just sat there on their phones and ignoring customers who come into the store. Dreadful selection and pricing of "new" games compared to any other high street or online retailers and staff who don't care - this store sadly sums up the decline of GAME throughout the years - and by the sound of things, they better get their act together quick. 1*

In the past I have taken defective software back and what a reception I got, totally unhelpful, no consideration for the customer they even went further, made snide comments and the manager even licked his tie and rubbed a game disc presumably to check if I had brought him back a pirated disc, and he could get the ink to run, he did this in my presence. Shocking service from totally unprofessional staff. The store seems ok until you have a problem with your purchase. There are plenty of good computer stores in Warrington, use them!

Of course the only - and I will go as far as to say major - drawback to this type of store is that it is rare that electrical goods will be the type of thing you will want to pick up from a charity/second hand store. It's not snobbery or a need to keep with the constantly rapid changes to electrical goods that causes this but simply that these goods don't really last that long. It may be that they're not built to last - as everyone now knows from the need to upgrade your mobile every year or 2! - but often it is usually the software or hardware that you need to use with these items. Of course you can see Allkinds as some sort of Be Kind Rewind thrift store for the analogue junkies who wish to preserve the beauty of tapedecks and 8 tracks in valiant attempt to stave off the digital onslaught. There is a growing number of people seeking out analogue gems in order to play their old mixtapes and being a vinyl fan I totally agree but be warned I am yet to find anything in such a store that will work well or not need a little work. However that is often the beauty of hunting down these items.

There aren't many places left in Liverpool or indeed even in the country which still stock and sell cassettes and vinyl's but it is nice to see that there are some places with real passion which are not letting this fantastic trade die. The selection inside was astounding with music from various different eras and even such classics as BBC sound effects albums last seen on an episode of Father Ted I believe. The owner of the shop could not have been more friendly as he indulged me naive requests and questions regarding old music as I was desperate to find out as much information as I could. Even though this place could do with a bit of a refurbishment there is no cause for complaint from me. It is like stepping into a simpler world and for a few minutes you can browse the store and forget the mayhem outside and if you have a cassette of vinyl player you might bag yourself a bargain.
