I needed to be able to hit pitching thrown from 50-70mph. My coach was Alexander DeLeon, and he was outstanding. By the time I finished my work with him, I was confident I could hit pitching up to 70 mph. He helped correct 40 years of bad habits at the plate, was patient and communicated well. He taught me how to run routes to balls in the outfield as well as playing some first base. Results: I hit .500 at camp, and .750 in tournament play (total of 6 games). The coordinators in their office worked around my schedule to make dates and times work for me and were very on top of things. Prior to contacting SCBA, I tried reaching out to other baseball coaches in the area as well as the "Find Your Coach" web site, and it was a huge bust. Not one of them returned phone calls or e-mails. The SCBA did, and while pricey, they exceeded my lofty expectations in terms of value, experience and results. If I had a child who loved the game and wanted to improve their skills, SCBA would be my #1 choice. I may be back at the end of this year for more training in pitching, as I am considering returning to fantasy camp next year.

My son plays at Granada Hills Little League, but we had a Tournament of Champions game here. It's a…read morebeautiful complex with great fields and a very friendly and helpful staff. My only real complaint is that parking isn't all that great and so if you have a game late in the day, you might not be able to park onsite (but you can park in the Metro parking lot across the street). I also remember coming here to watch a coworker's son play a game years ago and the parents on both sides being generally supportive and respectful for players, coaches, and umps on both sides of the field. that's definitely not something you'll see at most little leagues in this area. While I am happy with my son playing at Granada (both for location & competitive level, I would absolutely be happy with them playing here.

I was told that this camp comes no where near to filling up in the…read moresummer--and I should have realized the significance of this, because the lines for Pierce swim lessons begin to form before they open on the first day of registration. Basically what the camp amounts to is a few college guys hitting balls to long lines of kids, who run up and hit the ball then go to the back of the line to wait again. I watched them in action on four different days and I never heard a camp counselor give a word of instruction or advice to the children hitting the balls. It is a shame because the kids in this camp were ALL beginners who, if they are to have tennis careers later, will have to unlearn the poor form they have taught themselves in this camp. The campers don't play matches against each other, and I saw the counselors do a couple of things that were really disappointing considering the high kid-to-instructor ratio. One was texting while his friend hit balls to the kids. Another time I saw two of the instructors hit a few balls back and forth to each other at the end of the day and then tell one of the kids to run and get a ball that had gotten away from them. The kids are kept safe, there is swimming mid-day, and the meals are free; but otherwise there is no value in sending your child to this camp--unless you need a babysitter for the day and don't believe your kids will want to play "real" tennis later in life. At the very least the camp should be characterized as being for beginners not serious players in the school catalog.

We have tried the basketball camp but he likes this camp better. This camp provides the kids with the opportunity to learn the basics of tennis on one hand, and having fun at the pool and making friends on the other hand. The campers take their lunch break at the cafeteria where they have a different menu option everyday. The lunch is included in the camp tuition. The camp director is very professional and also an experienced tennis coach. Overall this camp is a good balance between serious instruction and having fun.

The commissioner is weak and easily intimidated by members of region 71 board. The board members are classless locals. Your average run of the mill raci*ts. The coaches are no longer members of the community, but are brought in from Van Nuys, and other vagrant neighborhoods. The parents are insufferable. From the gossip and over dramatized low brow refs to the soft heads of this region the whole thing is a sh*t show. Bring security with you to practices and games. Record everything and stay safe out there.

They don't realize that they are only paying for the uniforms and field permits. Everything else such as coaches and referee are all volunteer position requiring parents to step up and get involved in their children activity. Some how the West Hills community seems to think of soccer as a hobby or daycare and very very few get involved. Tip: for the parents help your kids team prep the field, setup and goals, help paint the lines, help clean the field, remove debris and rock. Everyone you see out there is working for free. Let's go West Hills step up. My kids have aged out and had a wonderful time.

They go to the pool every afternoon also (pack $ for your child to buy snacks there!). They are basically outdoors but in shaded areas and the indoor area is all open. Ok, so my son has severe ADHD and fencing was recommended as a sport because it is a "combination…read moreof physical activity, mental focus, and social interaction." (He also hated soccer and baseball.) Next, we needed to find a place with instructors that knew how to work with kids like him and make the experience engaging and fun. We visited a few and by far, UFA was the best. His time there has made a huge difference, He loves it and it has also boosted his self confidence. He doesn't want to go to any competitions and that is fine with everyone there. BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! I was never a big fan of organized sports and at my age, I wanted an alternative to just going to the gym. Guess what? I started in the adult class and it has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. Yes, I get to bond with my son over the sport of fencing, but more importantly, I have found an activity that I really enjoy as well. They say you can start fencing at any age and that's so true. I've fought people my age and others half my age and scored points on all of them. It has basically helped me channel my inner Jack Sparrow! Anyway, I could go on and on.
