Superior customer service from honest and reliable mortgage lenders…read more I recently bought my first home and thanks to Jodi White and Summit mortgage, I feel like I got a great interest rate and SUPERIOR customer service. Initially I was going to get my loan directly through a major bank and was scheduled to close near the very end of the month. At the beginning of the loan process, this major bank (who, for the sake of anonymity I shall henceforth refer to as "BANK X") also provided good customer service and a slightly higher than average interest rate in exchange for a significant credit toward our closing costs. As the end of the month neared, BANK X suddenly became incommunicado and would not return my calls or emails timely. Apparently once they figure you have agreed to use them as your lender, they have you trapped and they no longer have to be nice. I can take people being rude to me, but what happened next was just unacceptable: 1) BANK X sent me an updated Good Faith Estimate that was FAR HIGHER than the original good faith estimate and with absolutely NO warning 2) When I questioned BANK X about the massive increase, I was given the run around about "points" and "industry changes" 3) Not only did BANK X NOT apologize to me...EVER!...their tone was almost accusatory towards me as if I did something wrong! 4) After all of this, BANK X unable to close before the end of the month despite almost 3 weeks to get the paperwork together Because BANK X couldn't get the paperwork together before the end of the month as we had promised, the seller owed a penalty equal of $1,800.00...which they demanded we pay!!! To summarize, BANK X failed to close on time which had the following consequences: 1) BANK X used it as an excuse to increase my interest rate AND forfeit the credit toward closing costs 2) We had to pay $1,800 in order to make sure we could still buy the house or the seller would walk 3) We had to pay another month's rent where we were living In all, BANK X was a nightmare. I discussed this nightmare with my realtor who recommended Jodi White and Summit Mortgage. I spoke to Jodi who APOLOGIZED for my experience with BANK X and then gave me a quote which knocked BANK X out of the water. Jodi promised me that if I gave her my business, she would close within 3 weeks and that is EXACTLY what she did. When all was said and done, I got such a great deal with Summit, I still saved money even after all of the added expenses of dealing with BANK X. Bottom line, don't concern yourself with who BANK X really is, because if you are not dealing with Jodi White and Summit, you are likely dealing with your own BANK X and you may not yet know it (you soon will). Before choosing a lender, be sure to bargain shop and be sure to give Jodi White a call. I was glad I did.
