As I travel to Asia a few times a year, I've become hyper critical of the Asian cuisine I eat, especially in Ottawa. Nice to find this deep East end spot where there were some hits and misses. A kind and chatty waitress took our order. The host was long pouring coffee, South East Asia style, at the table next to us, which excited me that we would be having an authentic Malay meal. Shrimp crackers with a great spicy pepper sauce was a solid lead off to the meal. We ordered the Malaysian Chicken in Special sauce (good, spicy, nice flavour), the Indonesian Egg Noodle Dish with Shrimp (excellent) and the spicy Indo Gado Gado (I loved it, others at my table did not). The Jumbo Shrimp in Coconut Milk was most disappointing dish as the sauce was very thin and bland and the shrimp were anything but Jumbo. You can't call 31-40's Jumbo shrimp. Especially for $18. The restaurant was busy - most were there for the buffet which didn't look so appealing to me. I will go back but I'm not rushing.

I've always been curious about this place because I love trying ethnic and flavourful foods, and finally decided to go one weekday evening after work. I tried a fried rice noodle dish with shrimp, and also a beef curry. The noodles were a large portion and super tasty; everything was fresh, and the flavors melded well together. The beef curry was on the small side, but it was very tender and very flavorful; you can tell there are a lot of spices! One great thing is if you ask for spicy, they can do VERY spicy...I had to take a gulp of ice water with each bite of the beef curry! I was pleasantly surprised and will probably order something medium spicy next time. The inside is cozy and feels homely. I was served by a lovely lady who was very knowledgeable and gave good recommendations. The male server topped up the water frequently, and was friendly but not too overbearing. Next time, I might try the buffet, and other curries; I really enjoyed how heavily flavored the food was!

I'm still fairly new to cuisine from this part of the globe, so I can't comment on the authenticity of the food they serve here, but overall the food was pretty good. The meal begins with a complimentary bowl of crisps, and after this nice little snack we ordered the beef rendang and the Indonesian fried egg noodles. The first thing I noticed is that the beef dish was quite small. For $16 I was expecting quite a bit more meat. Taste-wise it was good; the beef was tender, spicy, and has a soft, pulled texture. The noodles were okay as well, with a slight sweetness that offsets the heat from the beef. Again though, for $14 I expected a little more. These prices would get you significantly more at even high quality asian restaurants in the gta. We followed up the main courses with dessert; a snickers pie and ice kacang. The snickers cake is fairly standard, but the ice kacang was a unique little treat, very similar to ice cream but with some little savoury elements added. So what's my final verdict? The food was good, but the prices were a little high. I'm not sure I'll be back but I'm glad I came to try it out.

This place is a hole in the wall hidden gem! If you don't know about it you'll probably just drive by it unfortunately. I'm from Brunei so this food is very close to home for me and yes!!! The most authentic Malaysian cuisine you will ever find I'm Ottawa. The restaurant it very homey and cozy. The beef brisket I'm sweet soy sauce and it was just SO tender. It was delish!! The fish curry is an excellent choice as well. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for authentic Malay cuisine (rare in Canada) and for spicy dishes ! Malay cuisine is known to be pretty spicy ;)
