I'm never stepping foot into Chain Gang Bike Shop again, nor will I recommend them to anyone. I called them over a month ago to try to get my bike in for a tune up and was told they were a few weeks out and that they might be able to get me in around June 15. I asked if I just bring it in that day, or if they'd call me, they didn't make it very clear, but it sounded like they'd call me and I could call them to follow up if I didn't hear from them. June 15 came and went, I've had a lot going on with family, and I was out of town all of last week. I hadn't heard from them, but I figured they must've had my name down and I'd be at the top of their queue or something. I tried calling them today, had some issue with my phone where they apparently couldn't hear me and just hung up quickly without trying to say hello a 2nd time or anything. Further attempts to call from another phone resulted in no answer. So I decided I'd just cruise by with my bike today and see what's up. Maybe they can't fit me in today, but I called them over a month ago, surely they can fit me in within the next 2 weeks. I've been planning a trip out of town with some buddies next weekend and this bike has been having some issues and needs some professional help. I went in and asked about my appointment. They didn't have me down. Dude said I was probably supposed to just come in on the 15th. I told him that I asked and that it wasn't made clear to me. I tried to clarify on the phone and wasn't given much of an answer. They would not make any attempt to try to fit me in within the next 2 weeks. Just didn't care, didn't try, didn't show much empathy for my situation. I didn't want to sit there and turn it into an argument, at this point, if I have to try to convince them to take my money, I don't want to give them my money. I called Sports LTD, they said I could bring it in today and they'd have it back to me in 4-5 days. Dude was super nice and helpful and said he'd get me all taken care of. That's customer service. I really wanted to support Chain Gang, being a downtown bike shop, I really wanted to make my next big bike purchase from there. But I will not be back. And I guess that means I will not be buying a Giant bike as well. But it'd be hard to convince me to go back there and give them my money, even if they are close to my house than the competition. Anyways, just wanted to share my story. If nothing else so the shop can hear my complaint and get their operation together so other people don't lose out on a month of biking due to their poor communication. read more

I got my bike back from another shop in town which took a month. Once I got it back I was having derailor issues. I called Chaingang and they said I could bring it down same day, so I did. An hour later I got a text saying my bike was ready. The tech even came out side with me to explain what the problem was and what he did to fix it. Great service, everyone was freindly and helpful. Our son crashed his bike a while back and we scheduled a time to drop it off and have it looked over and recalibrated, etc. They gave us an estimated time for repair and actually called us much earlier than we anticipated. Great service, the staff are helping me get into the mountain biking hobby, steering me towards the right bike and gear, helping me adjust helmets and suspension and all that, they even took the time to show me nearby trails on their map. They are very friendly and helpful. As for prices, I can't really say if they're good or bad because I haven't been in the hobby long enough to know the average prices for this kind of gear, but they seem fair. Chain Gang provided great service for me. I brought in an older mtn bike and asked Eric if it was worth investing some new parts on it. He looked it over and told me it was still in decent shape. Chain Gang has a good selection of parts at a fair price. Some pedals, a handlebar, brake pads, shifting cable and a tuneup and I was ready to ride the next day. This place is a joke, save your money and your time. These guys will not give you the time of day in less (A) you are best friends with them or (B) you purchased a $2k+ bike with them. Each time I have been in they seem more interested in standing around listening to their grunge music while giggling like a group of grade school pre teen girls. Have been there only twice but each time customer-service was impressive. First time I had a flat and was in a rush. Didn't know what to expect but was back-to-the wall and unable to continue my commute without some kind of fix, whether repair-job or taxicab. A visibly very busy individual left what he was in the middle of and took the time to repair my tire rapidly and inexpensively--with a half-tube of Slime. I'm still commuting on it, two months later. Second time I needed some accessories. The same individual who'd served me the first time again dropped what he was engaged in and helped me find what I'd asked for but didn't know much about myself. As we were headed to the register, I tossed him a question about snow-tires, hoping for nothing more than a quick opinion. I have used this shop twice to put together downhill bikes that were purchased online. Each visit I receive a lecture regarding the history of motobecane and how the brand is no longer good since they offer bikes at a discounted rates online. My husband and I both love our bikes. I am an experienced rider having spent most my days climbing and descending Galbraith in Whatcom County Wa. And single track in Glacier, WA. North Star Tahoe etc.. I recently purchased a mongoose for my son. I brought it into the shop to see if they had time to put it together, again to get another lecture on now how mongoose is a horrible band since its offered online..
