I have played The Challenge many times over the years and overall enjoyed it and had good experiences. However, my most recent round on May 27th left me very disappointed. I am 78 years old and still blessed to be healthy enough to walk 18 holes most days. That day was extremely hot and humid, mid 90's with high humidity. There are no water coolers on the golf course so I carried a bottle of water with me. I came in at the turn and mentioned to the pro shop attendant that it was tough that day and some water on the course would be helpful. He was very understanding and said he would pass the information on. I refilled my bottle and actually got a second one to carry. I got dehydrated on the back nine and actually felt some dizziness. I came back by the pro shop after my round and again mentioned the need for water on the course. The pro shop attendant again was very sympathetic. There was another person behind the counter at the time (I later found out was the head pro) who spoke up and said "we will never have water coolers on this course, they are unsanitary and we have a refreshment cart going around that you could have purchased water from". I told him we saw the refreshment cart one time all day, on our 11th hole right after I had restocked at the turn. His response was "I guess you should have carried more water with you". This kind of customer service is totally not acceptable and left me with a very bad overall feeling about The Challenge. I will continue playing there occasionally as my regular traveling group goes there a few times a year, but the head pro needs to get some training in customer service. read more

Hope you're not looking for a relaxing day of golf because I guarantee the ranger will ruin it for you. As a female 25 year old I've never been walked at or disrespected by an elder man as much as I was here. I was accompanying my boyfriend for golf and since we were waiting I decided to swing a club once and the ball went 3 feet in which I was accused of "playing" and called pathetic, pitiful and a liar. I proceeded to tell the man he was disrespectful which I was met with vulgar remarks and a jump out of his cart towards me. I will never be coming to this place again. read more

I know why this course is called Challenge. It was a challenge to find grass on the greens, sand in the bunkers, ball washers, hole directions or water in the coolers. Short of what is a nice course design they should pay you to play. read more

Wow. Great golf. Great Staff all around wonderful place to play. This place definitely takes after it's name "The Challenge". I have only played at this course one time. However, it was definitely a struggle. However, I'd like to add I am fairly new to golf. The greens were well taken care of and so are the fairways. This place can be a little on the pricier side, but you definitely pay for the quality of the course! Draft beer available and great food as well! Great golf course, greens are in really good shape, fairways are great and the staff is very friendly. Bunkers are a little rough from time to time but is understandable given the weather fluctuation. Definitely recommend playing here if you're looking for a challenging course. read more

The Challenge needs some work, but it appears the ownership intends to do so. Tee boxes and fairways were pretty poor. Some places not a bit of grass on the tee box, and on several fairways, there were also no grass to hit off of. One of the things that I found surprising was there was hardly grass surrounding the greens. It was weeds and brown bare spots around most greens. But, The bright spot is the greens. They have kept them in good shape. They roll well. read more

For those of you who lost faith in the Challenge a few years ago, I challenge you to try it again. The superintendent is great, it's under new ownership (same owners as Quaker Creek for those of you in the area) and they are putting money into the course. The superintendent has been there for a few years now and believe me, he knows what he is doing and there is a good chance you will see him on the course at some point during your round. The course is in great shape, it's beautiful (they have cleared a lot of trees and underbrush), and the staff is excellent. read more

Played here a few times recently and last week the course was in the best shape I've ever seen it giving how much rain we have had recently. Its evident the owner is investing back into the course and the staff is putting a lot of effort into it as well. Given the condition during the winter months I can see The Challenge being in terrific condition in the prime golf months. if you haven't played here in a while its worth the time in coming back and experiencing the changes management has made. The Challenge's greens are the best in the area! The pleasant, professional, and welcoming staff make for a great start of the round. The greens were redone last June 2017 with the no-till Champion Bermuda. The weather cooperated and the greens grew in perfectly. When the weather turns the fairways will set the ball up just right. Right now the greens are a wee bit slower than usual. Granted, it's March 1 and raining.... Dormant Bermuda doesn't soak up much moisture. When the weather is right, the parking lot and course fill up quickly. Sometimes tough to get a tee time on the weekends. Great course. The Challenge is even better than it was in 1997--its opening year. read more

The Challenge is simply breathtaking. I would recommend this course to everyone. The greens are really good and the staff makes you feel special. The new owners have made a ton of improvements already and there is no question The Challenge will continue to be a must play in the area. read more
