Don't get me wrong, I really loved this school and everything was fine till my very last year. Some teachers don't even deserve to teach. However, there were some teachers that loved what they did and I actually got to learn something from them. If I go into details of everything that happened while I attended, it'll be never ending stories. So let just say I had good and bad things happened. The good thing is that I graduated before they installed cameras and locked gates so that anyone who was in couldn't get out, lol. The bad is that we were on lockdown several times for firearm incident. Scariest moments of my life! The second bad news is that all the kids from Leto high school transferred to Alonso and made this a bad school. I'm just happy I got to be in Alonso before it got worst. The staff has always been friendly and in visiting for the IB overview a few weeks ago, teachers seem supportive. In my calls to the school recently pertaining to the program, staff has always been available or if I left a message I received a call back very promptly. My daughter applied for the IB program and got in for this school year which continues our family history of attending HHS. Drop off and pickup convenient off of Central Ave. Despite the school having a high attendance, traffic flows quite smoothly.

In conjunction with standard programs, Hillsborough has offered the International Baccalaureate program since 1994. If you graduate from this program, you receive some nice benefits (i.e. AP credits, Bright Future scholarship). Even if you attend standard classes, you'll still get a quality education. Positives: The teachers are pretty responsive and generally keep parents updated on progress. Drop off in front of the school is relatively easy, even with the crowded parkjng situation. Some drawbacks: AC units aren't always in the best shape (inconsistent heat, AC, and humidity through the building). The bathrooms aren't the best (missing doors, no TP). I'm not sure these are just issues at this school, could be a countywide issue. Overall, experiences here have been positive and I can strongly recommend the IB program. Go Big Red!

The only reason the kids score well is because every child is required to get expensive private tutors. 90 percent of the teachers are horrible, they hate teaching, they go on political rants, and they are absent more than the students.
