Absolutely amazing arepas! Everything tasted fresh and homemade. The arepa was perfectly crispy on the outside while staying soft, warm, and fluffy on the inside. I ordered the chicken and avocado arepa, and the chicken was seasoned perfectly with great flavor in every bite. The homemade sauces were a standout too--the green sauce and hot sauce were both incredible and took the arepa to the next level. You can really tell they put care into their food. Don't let the fact that this little gem is attached to a gas station lead you astray. This place has amazing food! The papás chamos must have sugar in them, because I think I am only likely to get addicted to things that do. We got them with just chicken (no sausage) and I ate so much of them that I could eat only half of my Reina Pepiada, which was also a standout. I had the Guanábana to drink, and I would drive there just for this. They told me it was tart, but it was only just so. We know this fruit (if we know it at all, which I did not) as soursop. The service was good, and very friendly, and the prices were very reasonable. I'm lucky that I live less than 10 minutes away, so this will make a great place from which to order takeaway. The food is consistently delicious. Especially the weekend Sancocho, which somehow tastes even better in fall and winter. I've tried the Tequeños, arepas, empanadas, cachapas, and the plantain sandwich, and every single one has been worth it. It's tucked next to a gas station, which adds to the charm. Parking's a bit unpredictable, so I usually park across the street and walk over. Easy enough. The hostess is lovely. Welcoming, helpful, and always spot on with her suggestions. I used to like this place, but it's clear they've stopped caring about customers. I ordered two lack luster bowls and three orders of beef pastillios (9). The cashier confirmed my order, but still gave me the wrong items and they were burnt. I brought them back, and she tried to convince me it was the same thing I ordered. As if I was just supposed to eat whatever they handed me. I asked for a refund. She got an attitude, disappeared into the kitchen, and came back saying it'd be 5 minutes to fix. Seven minutes later, it was still wrong they gave me chicken instead of beef. I spent over $80 and was treated like my business didn't matter. If I pay for something, I expect to get exactly that not what you feel like giving me. Poor service. Basic food. Sloppy attitude. Beware Richmond, VA (I told you so) this was my last visit. It was a delicious experience that I wanted to have for a while I' ve had any Venezuelan arepas and I saw the opportunity to try them and I went for it . Food taste was unique tasty but a little bit bland for my taste no meaning any harm I know not ever Latino food is Mexican food and I do appreciate the difference in taste. Service was very friendly and welcoming the person a the front counter who tended to me was superb and when above and beyond to help me order and also was kind enough to give me a sample of the tequeños or as he described them the Venezuelan mozzarella sticks the ones I enjoyed very much with the provided sauce . The whole place located next or attached to a service station but non the less was charmingly decorated with Venezuelan decor with a Caribbean feel to it and very clean, also bathrooms were very clean and properly stocked up and smell decent. read more

Yes, we have go to their restaurant and yes we know the owners, but the reason we selected them had only a little to do with those factors and more to do with price. They were by far the lowest quote we received. From a to z they did everything right! We requested it be prepared for dinner at 5 and they delivered. Just another great Venezuelan meal! Ordered for pickup and really quick turn around. We got a Pepito with grilled steak (think a steak and cheese sub Venezuelan style) with a large side of shoestring fries (they were crispy too). I'm a big fan of tostones (think fried green tomatoes but plantains instead of tomatoes) so order of them as well as tequenos (cheese sticks with a very thin breading quite different than the average cheesestick and franky so much better) and finally a side order of fries. I should have asked because I *thought* it was yucca fries but they weren't and actually weren't even the crispy shoestring style either but thicker and not the best (only disappointing part of our order). Was in the neighborhood and needed something different. Looked on google of places near me and this place popped up. Went in and the place was clean. Staff was friendly and the food was amazing. Had empanadas to start one of each flavor shredded pork, beef, cheese and ground beef. All very flavorful pork was the best. Then I had the Patacon and man was it good!! Huge portion couldn't finish so flavorful and cooked to protection. In other places I've been they sometimes overcook the plantains but not here it was cooked perfect not to hard not to soft. My wife had the other item pictured and said it was delicious but I can't remember the name of it. Definitely a hidden gem attached to the same building as a gas station. I don't remember the name but on the $17 steak plate - I'd rate the restaurant 2 stars on this dish. The steak was thick but tough and salty. The plantains were hard as a rock and difficult to eat. The fried yucca was awesome though. The chicha tasted like liquid rice pudding and was delicious. I'd never get anything but the arepas and fried yucca- those are outstanding, by far the best thing we ordered and the most wallet friendly. I'd love to try them all. There are not enough wonderful things I can say about Chamo's Arepa House. I've eaten here several times now and every meal has been amazing. This is authentic Venezuelan cuisine deliciously made fresh to order. The staff are friendly and kind. As if the dining experience wasn't great enough, today I walked out after lunch and left my purse, with everything I own in it behind. When i realized I called them and they had already picked it up for me. Everything I own was still inside. These are some truly kind and honest people! I'll start with service.... Horrible service and then they automatically added 20% gratuity!! They asked several times if everything was ok, but did not take away finished plates, or on those we were still working on they threw dirty napkins from the table to remove the plates. I had to stand up to ask for things at the counter since the server was sitting down chatting at another table, probably the owners?? As far as food goes.... It was not the best.... Asked for medium steak, was given well done. Everything was very high in salt!!! The shredded beef was a blob with sauce, in a Venezuelan restaurant they offer chips and salsa (not fresh) at the beginning, and did I mention, everything was over salted??? I think the best part of the meal was the passion fruit juice.... Beware of the prices on the menu and what they actually charge you as they differ. Also, they charge you more if you pay with credit card. We had gone a few times last year and it is NOTHING like it was before, I guess they had a change in the kitchen but it was not for the better.... I will NOT recommend this restaurant!!! read more

I went here when they first opened. I had been excitedly checking by to see when they opened for weeks. I just came in to grab a menu, but I went ahead and grabbed an empanada to try. The menu has some different items that I was excited to try, like the aguita de sapo, with the pork, fried arepa, and fried cheese, yum!! They also have churros, which sounds delicious to me. Their version of flan is also available. I liked the variety on offer, but, after having the pabellon empanada, I was sorely disappointed. The batter was too sweet, and I found the meat bland. Hopefully, they have improved, but I found the the meat lacked too much flavor for me to order an entree at a later date. I found the white dip overly sweet too. It wasn't my favorite. However, if you've never had Venezuelan food before, you'll likely still enjoy it. It was only one item. Perhaps empanadas just aren't their strength. I'm happy, just the same, to see this concept of real food being sold alongside a gas station. This is a concept I really miss from Miami. It's so convenient, plus who would complain about having somenof the best food in town accessible at the same place you have to go anyway to pump gas? I came here with a friend. We enjoyed the food. The young man in the front who attended us was very nice. Our food didn't take too long to come out. We really enjoyed our bowl which had pork, beans, rice, plantains, fried egg and arepa. Honestly, the star of the bowl was the rice. That rice was sooooo good and flavorful. Everything else in the bowl was good, although I wasn't too big of a fan of the black beans for some reason. We also got something that's like a sandwich but instead of a bun it has tostones. I'm more of a sweet plantain type of girl but I did like it, I don't recall the name of it. I ordered it with beef inside and it also had a sauce they put on it and slaw.
